Kensgirl, I wrote the same post in december. im 35 177lbs I was 200
My pace is about 14.4 now I have gone as far as 9.3 miles run/walk
I cant wait for the princess.

I'm 38 years old and tired of being overweight... so about three weeks ago, i decided that being the disney fan that I am, what a great way to lose weight and get in shape - train for the disney princess 1/2 marathon! So most people when I told them, laughed and said "why not try a 5k first???" Well, in 3 weeks, I'm up to 2.9 miles and down 8 pounds.... not to shabby.... Now, my time isn't great as i seem to be around 15.06 - 15.20 min miles - but like i said, it's only 3 weeks in!

Anyway - i'm doing this by myself. I have mixed feelings about that but I do think (knowing me) it's probably a good thing. I know that I would feel crazy guilty if someone that was actual good at doing this went with me and I felt like I was holding them back.

I'm looking for any advice on anything - whether is running tips, where to stay tips, anything! I have NO experience running any distances. I'm 38 and was 190 (and short 5' 1) now i'm 182

Anyway - thanks in advance for any info!

Just wanted to say congrats and welcome! I am not as experienced as some, but my advice is subscribe to Runner's World or some other publication. Peruse articles online. If you are on facebook, join Couch 2 5K group, they post LOTS of great articles not necessarily related to C25K, but about running and fitness in general.

Listen to your body and get your training runs in if you are following a program. Prioritize it and don't be afraid of the weather. The first 1/2 I ran was in the rain....which not ideal, but I had trained in rainy weather, so I was somewhat prepared.

I like Galloway's plan and advice. I try to follow what he says on form - check out his videos on the Run Disney site. It really does make a diff for me when I am getting tired to think about my steps and posture.

Good luck on your training and welcome!

With the race four months from today, I really need to decide what I'm doing....

Where are y'all staying?

I'm staying BCV with my mom. My brother and his family are staying there as well. I'm running with my sister-in-law.

This has been such a great experience for us. My brother is 10 years younger than me so we aren't as close as I would like for us to be. We also live 5 hours apart so that doesn't help either.

This has given me an opportunity to get to know my sister-in-law better. We have bonded over our love for Disney World and our love/hate relationship with running. We are both beginners. We can't wait to run at Disney World together!

Welcome to all the new Princesses! You will have a wonderful time. There is plenty of time for you to get your training in to get ready for the race. Just make yourself get out there and it. Don't panic about times and distances yet. The support of everyone here and at the race will help you through it.

For all the veteran Princesses:
How much time should we allot for pictures during the race?? Do people really wait in lines?

I am staying at the Swan.

My sis in law works for Starwood and I got an incredible rate....cheaper than value. I am hoping they open up an epcot resort so I can utilize buses, but if not, I will just cab it as I don't want to rent a car.

Yes, some people end up having to wait in lines but they are nowhere near as bad as the ones at the parks. They do try to get your picture very quickly so that you can get back on the course. The time you do wait does count against the 16 minute threshold so the line length all depends on the popularity of the characters.

Looks like I am in for the Princess 2011! In 2009 we ran both the Goofy and DL half. So glad to be heading back to Disney to run!:cool1:

Since my plan is to be perfectly princess, I am registered and I will be staying at Star Island resort. I'm trying to get BFF to go with me even though whe won't be running.

As far as the lines for pictures: my daughter runs up and gets in line while I continue my walking pace to catch up to her. We have learned to be a little more selective in what characters we choose for pictures. Our first year, we learned how much time bathrooms and picture taking will count against your pace! So, train for a little faster pace than what you actually need to have. That way, you will have plenty of time. Don't worry about setting your personal best time. You really want to enjoy the entire experience!

I am staying at the Swan as well :) We were there in May and really enjoyed it. I am with you in hoping that they will open up an epcot resort. If not, it's cab for me as well. We could probably just split a cab huh? Even though I am going with DH and DD, I don't think they will be watching me run the race. It's too early for them, esp DD4, and I would rather that they sleep in than be grumpy all day

Good to know about the lines for the characters. The Disney site recommeded maintaining at least a 15 minute per mile pace to ensure photo and restroom time. Would you all think that's about right?

I think that sounds about right. There are quite a few characters on the course, ubt most have short lines. The longest lines are inside the Magic Kingdom and usually for Mickey and Minnie. Bathroom lines are much longer at the start of the race and then get shorter as the race goes on.

i am staying at the all star movies. trying to keep this trip as cheap as possible. it looks like i'm already in the hole though.

remember how i said my friend was going to run with me? well i purchased both our entrance fees, the hotel, and used my frequent flier miles for the BOTH of us. she has yet to come up to run with me (she's in manhattan) like she's been promising and hasn't paid me back for anything. two weeks ago she said that she would be mailing the check. i haven't heard from her since.

Eeek. If she backs out, let me know. I haven't done anything yet.

I still haven't made any reservations yet. Family is so busy and it's hard to get them all to agree.

Will there be any flowers planted in Disney World for us to see during the Princess Half?
