Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Not a flattering look for Diana--but I thought she sounded good.

My 2 cents for tonight.

First off I have to agree with the poster who had the comment about letting Simon talk. I hate when the audience boos over him...that is just rude.

My second comment is that I was really upset that they let them remake songs to sound like big band songs. It was as bad as when they let them remake Barry's songs to fit their voices.

Diana..not too bad tonight.
George..nope, didn't do it for me tonight. "Dancing Cheek To Cheek" I like the song, but all I could hear in my head was Ricky Ricardo singing it to Lucy. It was in one of their shows when they were dancing together.
LaToya...she was the same as she always is...good, consistent and ice princess.
Jasmine...I liked her tonight..she sang a favorite song of mine "Someone To Watch Over Me" and I enjoyed it.
Fantasia...I agree with her voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

I missed John tonight...the show just wasn't the same. The girls are voting for Jasmine tonight.

So who do people predict should/will go home tomorrow? Based on tonight's performances I think Diana should go. Although overall I'd like Fantasia to go, but I really doubt she will....

I voted for the first time tonight! Is it usually to be able to get through a lot? I love George and hate the thought of him leaving tomorrow so I have been calling and calling and getting through

As I was watching the show tonight, it dawned on me that I don't care who wins. I don't think I'll be watching the rest of the season. It feels strange as I loved last season. :(

I thought LaToya was by far the best tonight. I don't agree with the "ice princess" thing that a lot of folks here seem to see. I think she is classy & she listens to the judges after her performances. I think she may be a little nervous speaking in front of a big audience. When she couldn't spit out "Natalie Cole", she looked a little wierded out to me.

I thought the rest were very good. I thought Fantasia's 2nd song was way better than her first. I usually like her, but the "nails on the chalkboard" thing was evident in the first song. I thought Diana did a great job, and I thought Jasmine had one of her best nights. I have been a big fan of George since the audition phase, but I thought his performances tonight were the most "forgettable". Oh well, Just my .02. I can't wait to see who gets the boot tomorrow night.

Wondering if she is on heavy duty pain medication? Her face looked swollen and she just looked out of it.

I enjoyed both of Laytoya's performance and for the first time the second song that Fantasia sung, the one by Barbra Streisand. She sounded beautiful.

.

OMG!!! DH said the same thing! He asked me if I thought she had been punched in the face. . He's a nut by the way, but she had a TON of make-up on & her face looked puffy.

I also noticed Paula's make-up. It was a bit much.

I thought LaToya did the best and I hope she wins, although I think Fantasia might win because of her personality. She definitely relates to the audience a lot better than LaToya does.

As usual Latoya was awesome, simply the best. I didn't like Fantasia's performance tonight at all. My DH (who never watches the show and has no idea who any of them are) was close by while Fantasia was singing. After her first song I heard him say "yuck"!

I may have missed a post regarding my next question, please forgive if I have... but

Tonight was Big Band Era... 4 out of 5 performers stayed true.. but Fantasia was allowed to pick songs NOT from Big Band at all..... hmmmm Did anyone else notice this little oddity??

LaToya calm cool collected.... and VERY TALENTED...

I liked Jasmine tonight too. I thought her second song was very, very good..

I enjoyed last night's show, but wasn't bowled over by any of them. I felt George and Jasmine were the weak links here.

I, too, felt the performers took great liberties in song selection, especially Fan-TA-SI-A. LaToya also did a song that is not "big band", if I'm remembering correctly. Listen folks, Babs may have been around in the 40s, BUT she did NOT sing BIG BAND! If the show is going to have a theme, then all of them should sing the songs from the theme. I really don't care if they change the arrangements, but PUHLEEZE. . .sing a song that comes from the era not a song that just relates to the era by virtue of a Hollywood musical. ;)

I agree with you about Latoya deadheadbelle. I hope she wins, I think she has a great voice and she is classy.

I was surprised by Diana and Jasmine, I thought they did a great job. I'm not usually impressed with Jasmine's singing. I didn't think George sounded great at all.

As for Fantasia, it's no secret that I'm not a fan of hers but last night I thought she sounded horrible. I was just cringing during her entire performance. Her voice goes right thru me. Now maybe I'm  but I was in total shock   when the judges loved her. I couldn't believe it, I thought this would be a night they didn't think she did well at all. And Paula was crying  ?? Anyways, I'd like to see Latoya win the whole thing. I'd also like to see Fantasia go tonight, although I'm sure that won't happen.

I also had a hard time understanding her. Something was up.

Not sure if Simon's comment to LaToya was good or not. He said a "10 out of 10 for Broadway" we all know he is not a big fan of "broadway' singers being American Idols. I loved her. No doubt IMHO she was the best by far. I tried to vote for her and could not get through. Hopefully good news.

I agree with cinmell, I hope Fantasia goes tonight. Do not like her voice at all.

Did anyone see John Stevens on ET? He sang King of the Road. Really good!

what has paula abdul done to her hand? Do any of you guys know? She has he arm in a sling a couple of weeks ago and last week she was holding it like she was in real pain.

I haven't seen this week yet so I can't comment on the puffy overly made up face that you are all talking about!

I posted on that fact too! Barbra is definately NOT big band era..and come on "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"? definately not big band era...even if it sounded big band. They should have sticked to songs strictly from that era.

AND LaToya herself says she is aloof and tends to stay away from everyone...that is her personality. She said that on Mondays interview show. Maybe not those exact words but very close to them. LaToya is very good...she just doesn't "wow" me when she sings...none of them do.

I think that they were having trouble with her mic at the start of the show. She sounded a bit like she was under a blanket! But I noticed that they moved her mic from her collar to her armhole and she sounded better after that. But I also thought she looked pretty bad last night! ................................P

You mean to tell me someone sang Crazy Little Thing Called Love on big band night? I missed last night, but that is not even close!! Who sang that...I just lost some respect for someone.

Guess???? Yep, Fantasia and she sang a Barbara Striesand song-which was good. Did not like the "Crazy Little thing called love" song at all.
