Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

I agree with Nancy. There is nothing wussy about that young man. What's the point in him coming back with cocky comments. He's way above that.::yes::

I also feel that John Stevens is a class act. I was not a fan of his, but as a parent of young adults I can appreciate how mature he is for a 16 year old. I always felt great pride when people told me how polite and well mannered my sons where. I think his parents have done a great job with him.

I do feel he needed to go, but felt so bad for all the things he had to endure during AI. Hope he enjoys just being a normal teenager again.

Nancy

I'll bet John will be very popular with the girls when he goes back to school.

It would have been interesting to see him do the big band night.

Wow, I must admit I'm a bit surprised to see all the criticism of Fantasia. I didn't care for her at first, but she has grown on me. Her performance of "Summertime" really was spectacular. I don't think she is truly cocky--I think she has a funny/spunky personality. She amuses me. :)

I guess I just personally can't get "into" LaToya. She can sing, that's for sure. I guess she just seems a little bit unfriendly to me. It could just be her shyness, but I think she seems a little cocky. She definitely can sing though.

I agree, Elisabeth. I come back to this thread daily to see how Fantasia's bashed daily and have to leave and go to another board that just LOVES her to balance it out. I know that everyone has their own opinions but sometimes the criticisms here are amazing!

LaToya, and her Mom in the audience, both seem to be low key personalities. She does appear to be somewhat shy. This is endearing to some, off taking to others.

No matter how someone sings on this show, it's how they are perceived will be the end result of how they make out. It's amazing.

The Fantasia bashing is NOTHING compared to the bashing that poor John gets. And most of the time it has to do with her attitude, which usually isn't the greatest, opposed to John Stevens, who just gets bashed for everything about him. :(

I agree that there is no way you can call John a wuss for not responding to nasty comments! He is just way too polite and maure. It just makes everyone else look dumb for making nasty comments. He's not the type that is going to stoop down to their level.

I find it interesting that they're doing the Big Band theme the week after John gets voted off. At one time, I had heard they were going to do it earlier (the week they did Manilow?) and then all of a sudden they switched it. I wonder if Fox did that on purpose. John would have done well, which would have given him a second life.

It is a little weird, isn't it?

But, for all you JS fans - send him your thoughts and good wishes (no bashing allowed ;) ) at Send John Stevens Good Wishes Here!

I think the theme nights probably get switched around to accomodate the guest judge's schedule. It's a shame that John will miss "Big Band" night as I'm sure he would have been much more comfortable doing that vs. the previous selections. Oh well, he probably doesn't mind as I'm sure his new celebrity status will allow him to have the pick of the litter for Prom Night. Who knows, maybe his parents will even let him drive. :teeth:

What happened to this thread? It's dying now since John Stevens has been voted off. Let me guess, it's not fun anymore since there's no one to bash now?

Oh I think we'll come alive again once we see this week's performances. ::yes::

It will probably be pretty boring. There's gonna be 4 girls that pretty much sound the same, and George. At least last year there was more of a variety in the top 5. There was Ruben who sang like an R&B or soul style, Clay who was very broadway, Josh who was country, and then the 2 girls (and even they sounded a little different since Kim had a much deeper voice).

I always thought John made the show a bit more interesting. I would have really loved to hear him sing on "Big Band" night.

I agree Tinkbell. The show really has no contraversy left. It doesn't matter to me who stays and who goes from here on in. I would have liked to have heard John sing on big band week.

I listened to the new album put out by the Idol 3 contestants. Mostly, they all sound the same for the exception of John. I couldn't pick out which girls were which.

You can listen here (hope this link works)

I guess I'm in the minority as I am looking forward to this weeks show. I think there is a great group of 5 remaining. Will they each sing 2 songs this week? I know at some point they start singing 2 each. I just can't remember when that is.

We get the show after you guys and I have only seen the last 2 weeks when Jennifer went.

From what I have seen for me John was the weakest the last 2 weeks.

I really like Diana, competent, bubbly and vibrant.

That's why I don't like her! I really don't like George and Diana and I hope they both go soon. I don't like either of their voices, but I'd rather see Diana go first, because her personality bugs me so much.

VIEWER ALERT! SPECIAL AIRS MONDAY NIGHT

From the official site:

SPECIAL PROGRAM NOTE:
Don't miss the all new special AMERICAN IDOL: THE FINAL FIVE '04 where we get intimate with the final 5 and hear them sing their favorite song from the season so far! Watch it Monday at 8/7c on FOX!

Each contestant has come this far and nobody wants to go home now. Not when they're this close to the big brass ring. Speaking of big brass, it's Big Band Week this time around. Who will be able to throw us back to the '40s with a classy and masterful performance in front of the band? And who will finally let the spotlight get to them?

Find out when you watch another round of live performances this Tuesday at 8/7c on FOX! Then come back Wednesday at 8:30/7:30 for the live results show. Only four can move on, so somebody has to go home!

By the way, it is not Diana Degarmo who is part American Indian. It was Charly Lowry from the top 32.

By the way, why does a Georgia girl (Diana) try out for AI in Hawaii? Did she not make the cut in Atlanta and have the $$ to fly out and give it another go? Did she also audition at other spots before Hawaii (the last stop)?

This week's Entertainment Weekly has the cover story on the last six and quotes Cowell as swearing they don't put bad ones through, thereby shortchanging other good singers in the auditions. I find this laughable.
