OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

I know one should never look back... but ::yes:: I looked back. I decided to look at airfare on SW on the date I really wanted. (10/6) It came down... WAY down. Now granted... I would have had to pay for that flight and Kira's points were about to expire so ultimately, Alaska's flight is probably the better choice... but I really would have liked to fly SW rather than Alaska. Alaska is a direct flight though... no layover... so this is good, yes? :confused3

Other "stuff" I seem to have injured myself (again ) I came down into a small hole last week with the full force of my foot during my stride and am pretty darn sure I have turf toe. (a sprain to that ligament at the base of the big toe) I have used KT tape to tape it and it along with compression seems to be helping... but if it doesn't start to improve, I may end up looking at going to the doctor to see if they can give me a cortisone injection. (do they do that for turf toe?)

Hasn't made running easy... first mile today felt like I had someone taking an ice pick and jamming it down on my joint every time I landed with that foot. However, endorphins are a wonderful thing and by mile 4 I wasn't hurting too bad. Now though... :scared: can't wiggle the toe.

Oh.. and not sure if I mentioned on this thread... but we are in the middle of attempting to purchase DVC. Our contract came yesterday. We need to sign it and send it in and THEN wait for Disney to see if they will exercise their ROFR. If they do then we are back to the the starting point (finding a listing, making the seller an offer, having the seller accept the offer, waiting on the contract..sending it it... etc... ) Exciting stuff...

I take it you haven't done the direct flight before? It is usually at least a 2 hour difference, often quite a bit more depending on the flight schedule. Figure the direct is 5.5 hours, non direct usually around 3.25 per leg with at least an hour layover. Plus no worries about delays at the layover or missing the 2nd leg if it's a short layover.

I LOVE the direct and would take it hands down over any other option. Especially on the way there as you are losing so much of the day traveling as it is thanks to the time change. Which flight are you on, on the way down, I forget.

Are you icing????
Don't know about cortisone for turf toe but they are pretty resistant against doing it too much so they may want you to try other things like PT, icing etc first. I've been dealing with this for my elbow...

Week 4 Training

On Thursday, I completed week 4 of training and happy to report that although I was not pain free, I was able to finish my LONGEST WORKOUT RUN to date! Recapping the training week:

Friday (W4/D1): This run really felt good! The entire time I kept thinking that maybe I can actually do this! I ran 1.46 miles with a 14.2 minute/mile speed. I had to laugh because it took me more to run 1 mile than it did my daughter to run her 2 mile race the day before (which by the way she qualified for state in).

Saturday (Curves): Just another Saturday morning at Curves.

Sunday (W4/D2): I was so pumped about Friday that I was really expecting this to be easy and comfortable. Not sure what went wrong because today was the exact same run as Friday, but it KILLED ME and self doubt really crept in my mind. I finished it and looking at the stats, something went wrong on Friday with the GPS. Today I ran 1.87 miles with a 14.1 minute/mile pace…faster and longer than Friday!?

Monday (Curves): Great workout at Curves, I had my pulse near 85% the entire time!

Tuesday (Curves): I had planned to run today, but the weather was not cooperative. I am getting so sick of this up and down rollercoaster ride this spring with temps. Monday it was 88 for a high, and today it was 42 with 25-30 mile winds. So I headed to Curves, not a great workout…pulse only at 70%, not sure what was going on with me!

Wednesday (W4/D3): The day I had been dreading, long run day…today would be my longest workout run to date! After Sunday, I was really worried about this run and whether or not I was ready for it or could even finish it. The entire drive to the park I was going to run at afterschool I was thinking that I had to run around the park 4 times…YUCK. But then I kept thinking about how fun it was going to be to run with Amy and Ann, plus accomplish 10 miles. I realized on the way that I did not have my headphones or running wristband for the phone…they were in MY CAR and I was in Ab’s car. Grrr, I thought about running into Wal-Mart and pick up a pair of headphones, but decided that there would probably not be a lot of people at the park right after school and I would just run with the speaker blaring in the open (and of course Ann and Ashley1 had to start texting during the run, LOL). I sat out on my run and pushed myself the distance, not pain free but enough that I could manage to run/walk without having to give up. I finished and I am proud of myself for completing 2.87 miles with a 13.9 minute/mile pace. I allowed myself a few moments to celebrate and then look up next week’s long run…ugh 3.3 miles!!!! Will I ever make it 10 miles without dreading it…looking towards the end of May the workout is 5.15 miles!

On the way down I am taking a SW flight. It gets me in around the same time as Tammie. This will be great cause we can ride DME together and check in together.

I iced a bit... I have wrapped. I have used compression. I have elevated. It hurts. :( It really is making me a tad angry because deep down I know that this is just one more injury that I am going to have to live with and work with. :sad2:

I think you had a great week!!! I think you should be proud! You are progressing nicely. I was not at that pace last April. I keep thinking where I was and comparing it to where you are in order to project where you will be come fall. I just KNOW you are going to be more than ready for the 10 miles!. :cheer2::cheer2: My runkeeper won't let me see back to May.. but I have a 2.8 mile done on 8/25. Guess what my pace was? 12:38 (I am not sure if you are saying 13.9 or 13:09 - one being 9/10s of a minute and the other being 9 seconds) In either case... 4 months more and I was not that much faster than you are now!!!! I kept at it... and before I knew it the walls that kept me running at that pace broke and..well, do you know that on 9/9 I did 2.94 with a pace of 10:33 That is 2 minutes per mile faster in just a couple weeks!!! It just all of a sudden clicked. Well, what probably happened too is that I finished my midcycle. What a cruel joke... I hate ovulating now more than ever because of what it does to my pace. Each month I can slow by about a minute per mile. It is like God created us to be slow when we are able to get pregnant so we can be caught :rotfl2: Like guys need any help being faster than us. :lmao: My sil who is perimenopausal can ovulate twice in a month now... (gotta spit out those last remaining eggs I suppose just in case there is one last chance at getting pregnant.)

You mention running with Amy and I as motivation... I am so glad! We are all going to have so much fun!! How is Amy's training going? She never seems to post about it.

I know one should never look back... but ::yes:: I looked back. I decided to look at airfare on SW on the date I really wanted. (10/6) It came down... WAY down. Now granted... So glad you are finally using the title of our PTR...flights....:rotfl2: I knew it was too easy for you when we both made them really without tons of thinking...

:rotfl2:Ann the always flight stalker...which reminds me I get to book next week so I can get to Dallas for my flight to MCO. Gotta love flyer miles...and I did not even pay for the flight to get the miles!

Hi OCD Princesses :)

Can I join along and watch your journey? Very inspirational you ladies are:thumbsup2

Following along. :)

Welcome...I hope that you find something to keep you reading. We really should have renamed this RECOVERING OCD Planners as we are going way too much with the flow and no commando this time around.

On the way down I am taking a SW flight. It gets me in around the same time as Tammie. This will be great cause we can ride DME together and check in together.

Can't wait for the moment we finally meet! I am trying to figure out something special for this moment!

What would I do without you being my :cheer2: everyday? I think that 13.9 is close to 14 minutes...lol. And that is what I am trying to hit for this run. I am so ready for everything to click instead of being a constant struggle all of the time...running truly is a mental sport! I am debating on my long run this week...it falls on Tuesday when I am in Denver, not sure if I really want to run in the altitude my longest run ever (workout or race)....:confused3

Amy is getting serious this week on running, now that Erin is out of therapy and she is done with her masters! But she needs to get in here and update her training.

I really agree! I know I totally feeling like whatever... we just need to make sure to be in a couple places at specific times in the trip. Other than that...whatever happens I am good with. ;)

Well, as much as I cheer you on... do know it seems to always be a struggle for me to and I always seem to have something that hurts. True, I run faster now than I ever did... but for some reason each and every 3rd mile makes me feel like I will never achieve it. Then... 4...5...6 are easier. Go figure. mile 6 is easier for me than mile 3. Probably due to endorphins... but also probably because of the mental aspect of it.

I don't blame you for not wanting to do your long run in Denver. Maybe you do it sooner? Later? I know I have my long runs on the weekend... just because of the time commitment for them.

And..as for my toe. Thanks... I know it will eventually heal. I figure 4 to 6 weeks and I should be good again. It just sucks cause I spend the first mile to two miles feeling as though I have someone stabbing the joint with an ice pick...

I did have my long runs on Sunday and then somehow my schedule got messed up...trying to get back on course so they are on weekends. I am running tomorrow my 2nd short of this week...thinking of skipping long on Tuesday and start the next week short cycle and pick up this weeks long next Sunday...I am just going to see how I feel on Tuesday...

That is the beauty of it all... you can change your routine. It is YOUR routine. I use to have my long run on Saturday. After the last 10k race I never moved it back from sunday. It works out. Especially now that I have the injury. I think I needed two days off in a row not running....

What a great week! That is so exciting, you should definitely celebrate.

We use to ONLY fly Alaska. I found the morning down to FL and evening back to be PERFECT! Then I got a bit irritated with the cost of bags and food and well...overall fare that I looked at SW. I have been pretty happy flying SW. I think the seats are a bit roomier... they are generous with the snacks and I can almost always get part of flight on points. I also learned that while I hate how much time the layovers add to the travel day... I like that it breaks up the flight- Especially with Zoe since using her medical supplies in a plane's restroom is not fun.

Yeah, the baggage thing bites. We carry on all but one, and put all the toiletries in the one we check. With Zoe though.....that makes sense. Because we stick to Alaska we do end up getting a fair amount on miles and once you are "in" somewhere it really makes sense to try and stay there. Every time I've looked at SW as an option for us, it hasn't been much (if any) cheaper and horrible times but I really need to check again and make sure. For some reason I thought it was all Air Tran now....? No?

Now given that I need to be back at work asap that week, I think the flight that I got will be perfect. I can work a bit during the day from FL and then get back early enough in the evening to get prepped for the next day at work.

I hate injuries. Hate them. My big joke right now is that I am in the acceptance phase with mine. It sucks.

I hope so because if it doesn't... well, I can't see finding something as fast as we did this one. I have decided we need this number of points (if not a tad more) and so going down by 100 points a year to keep in our budget doesn't make sense. So we will end up watching and waiting.... But I am going to be doing that anyway because... well. :ssst: I think I may feel a touch of.. what is it called? addonitis? coming on. :rotfl: But it would have to be a small contract and also a bit on down the line... (let my bank account recover from this purchase) Still will be watching.... And... question... where do the small contracts come from? If disney requires you purchase a minimum and that minimum is over 100 points, where do the 25 and 50 point contracts come from?

Once you are a member, you can add on direct for as little as 25. So that's originally where they come from. I really think you've got a very good chance. Fingers crossed!

Well, what probably happened too is that I finished my midcycle. What a cruel joke... I hate ovulating now more than ever because of what it does to my pace. Nope... I think SW bought Air Tran... but they haven't combined fleets.

I hate injuries. Hate them. My big joke right now is that I am in the acceptance phase with mine. It sucks.

I don't want to accept mine!! It does suck. Today was particularly not fun. The route that I run my long run on was used as a bicycle race route. :faint: Now... nothing against the racers... but they were not going to let me have my space on the road and so I had to keep jumping off into the gravel to avoid them. I think it didn't do my foot any favors.

I wondered if that was it! Today I am feeling good about it passing... I even looked at point charts and discovered something regarding the time during which the PHM is vs. when the WDW marathon weekend is... one takes quite a few more points.

I was :rotfl2: reading this, love it! I do agree though and know it impacts my workouts. I may start tracking this, that's pretty interesting actually.

It is kind of interesting. In trying to get pregnant with Zoe we had some challenges.. (the first three were - look at eachother funny and Steve and I were expecting...so this was a surprise when it wasn't happening for us...) Anway... all the charting I did..wondering when I would hit that magical time. Well.. if only I had been running I would have been able to know. :rotfl:

How early does SW release their flights?

Well in your case, your toe will heal. I hear you on the bike path...Jeff practically runs in the gravel on his runs for that reason. Ours gets SO crowded though between the racers, the runners and then all the families out with kids that shouldn't be on a bike on that trail yet weaving all over the place. They are supposed to go around you though...as long as you are to the far right of course...without being in the gravel.

Jeff cracks me up though, as you know "some" bikers will do the "on your left" thing. Some till not. He will say back "on your right" which annoys me. The folks saying something are doing the right thing! He has a bell... but it does seem some of the more serious racers are the least courteous...and the newbies just ride right down the middle of the path. :rotfl:

I wondered if that was it! Today I am feeling good about it passing... I even looked at point charts and discovered something regarding the time during which the PHM is vs. when the WDW marathon weekend is... one takes quite a few more points.

Point charts are interesting, we definitely have planned around them at times but do know that they can and do change which can be frustrating. Marathon weekend is a lot less I assume, yes? PHM buts up against President's week I think which is a huge crowd week as many folks have breaks.

NOT SOON ENOUGH! That is one area that always frustrates me. Like now... their calendar doesn't go to the holidays.

Yes.. the toe will heal. It should be better in a few weeks.

And..as for the racers... I was running against them. They were on the road... riding with traffic. I run against traffic. On trails... I stick to the far right... but on the road I am on the left.

I do realize they change here and there. I realize they could change for 2014...but I was going off of 2013 charts. The time for the PHM would cost 94 points for 6 nights at OKW. The time for the Marathon weekend would be 66 points for 6 nights. So we can stay and extra two nights and still have it be less points. I am doing that correct, right? Of course, this is assuming we can get a studio there....

I will need to remember to check. I'm a Yapta girl but it won't track SW which is a bit of a problem.

Ah, thought you were on a path, not the road. Thankfully we don't get much in the way of racers on the road where Jeff runs but they are all over the trail. I have to admit conceptually that's freaky, running against traffic makes sense but a bike coming that close to me would make me jumpy, I'd probably twist an ankle!

It is the seasons that change, yes. And the points can change as well. Basically they have to keep the total number the same for the year by room class but can redistribute at will should they so desire (making weekends more or less etc) and then they can change when a certain point season starts and ends. I saw a huge change for VGC and Aulani this year in the season dates. Generally though it's more likely to impact newer resorts versus older like OKW so that is good. Yes, you have it right but your start date can impact it. For example if you arrived on sunday the 5th for Marathon weekend instead of the 6th, it'd be 63 points instead of 66. Arrive on Sunday for PHM and it would go down to 89 instead of 94.

Believe me, you'll track and try to save those 3 or 5 points lol!

I can check availability for you if you like, site is down right now until later this afternoon for planned service.

Yeah.. SW isn't on any search engines for fares... I wonder why.

It is a very remote road... on my runs I might see 5 cars on it.. more likely only 2 or 3. It is however a road with a yellow line down the center so cars can move a bit quick on it. Today, I ran a slightly different farm road (no yellow line) but it is what Steve and I are calling "the road that never ends" It is a straight stretch that is about 1.25 miles long. From the moment you get on it.. you can see to the end. It is CRAZY LONG. Today I didn't see a single car on it.

I imagine that I will track and save! I see many a spreadsheet in my future.

If you don't mind looking at availability, that would be awesome to know what is available. I am thinking 9/28 to 10/2 since 10/2 to 10/7 is a period that requires more points... plus we would need a one bedroom rather than a studio.

If you have a smart phone there are some great apps for point calculation, easier than a spreadsheet (though sometimes I still do those.

I think you can only book SW direct which is why it doesn't come up. Not positive though.

Right now, for a 1B the following have availability, with check in 9/28, out 10/2

OKW 92 points
AKV Jambo or Kidani Standard View 95 points
SSR 105 points
AKV Kidani Savanna View 121 points

Partial nights avail (at least one is not avail)
OKW near HH
BLT all categories
VWL
BWV Garden/Pool
AKV Jambo Savanna View

No nights avail
BCV

Cynthia thanks for checking. We would not need a one bedroom for the first 4 nights since it will just b 4 of us. I think my hope is a studio would be available- kinda sounds like it won't be... Which is fine. We do have our rooms booked at cbr and pop, so it isn't like we don't have a place to stay ;)

Oh I misunderstood. I didn't check those nights for a studio. I did check over the 4th/5th and the 5th is gone everywhere in a studio, I can check the earlier dates for a studio.
