"We'll Get There When We Get There!" Mr Incr3dible's journal (comments definitely welcome)

I went out yesterday in T+D = 168 for what was supposed to be appx 5 miles on the greenway. A storm on Sat night put a tree down less than a half mile in, so I turned around and started to drive home. Then I realized that one of the other access points wasn't too far out of the way, so I headed down there. Got on the greenway and started running, trying to do some runner math as to know how far to go before turning around because I had just paused my watch earlier, thinking I'd finish in the neighborhood. Got to the nominal turnaround point, but things felt ok so I kept going a little more and finally decided to turn around and headed back. I see the road that tells me that I had gone too far and circle back to the path to the park. Where I turned off the greenway to go back up to the park turned out to be... houses. (A number of neighborhoods have paths directly to the greenway). Um, ok. So back going north and finally realized that the road I thought I was approaching wasn't that road and that I needed to keep going. Long and short of it is that being on a section of greenway that I hadn't been on in years had me morphing parts of where I was with where I normally run, and I would up with a 7 mile run. Whew! So good prep for the upcoming half, but more than I had planned in that humidity. And thinking that I was almost at the park, I wound up walking the 6th mile, and then resumed running for the 7th mile, but mile 6 kept my average pace from being down closer to 11:10. That said, I'm not going to sweat it ( no pun intended).
And that's how I accidentally ran 2 extra miles yesterday....
MMDV (my milage did vary)
Thanks for reading.

This is why I don't like running loops in new places. There's no way I'd get all my turns correct. I also sometimes struggle with the out and back 😅

Not that this is going to be an anniversary that I commemorate every year, but the Week 0 football game in Dublin yesterday reminds me that it was one year ago that I rendered myself unable to walk. I am so glad for the capabilities of modern medicine, search that I will be competing in a half marathon in one week.

The miracle of modern medicine *is* what I think about more than a little bit. How simple infections, injuries, or even nearsightedness would greatly impact your life before these modern capabilities/remedies came along.

Truly, I get to run.

I finally made the time to do a Galloway Magic Mile; I used the kids' HS track.
Total time was 9:26, but Garmin said I did only .97 miles and made it a 9:42 pace. Go figure. but a .03 mile differential isn't bad. But that does assume that the track is correct...
:confused3

Using Galloway's calculations, that will be a HM pace of appx 11:24, which will just squeak me below 2.5 hours and qualify as a PoT for rD. Goals!

Nice! That's my big long term goal.

I entered the Bound for Boston half marathon, not because I am in any danger of qualifying for the Boston Marathon, but I did want a qualifying time for the run Disney races and wanted to see if I could better my personal record from 2009. I did not beat the 16-year-old PR, but I did manage to squeak in under the Disney qualifying time. And much to my surprise, I was asked to go over and get a picture as I had come in third place in age group *and* there were more than three people in my age bracket. Woo-hoo!

The race itself is held on a parkway through an office park and it is essentially a 1 mile loop with the fractions of a mile taken up by starting and finishing just off the loop. Interestingly, it is literally right where I was a diagnosed about a year ago with having completely ruptured my hamstring. So unable to walk to completing a half in less than a year. Got to love modern medicine. The course is almost completely flat and the cool front provided temperatures in the low 60s at 6:30 this morning. Just perfect. This race also gives runners the option of paying a little extra to start early in order to take advantage of even cooler temperatures. It was weird to be parking 30 minutes before race start and seeing people already out lapping.

As for the qualifying time: 2:29:26. Just squeaked it in.
I stuck to the 60/20 RWR intervals from the get-go and was doing good until about mile 10.5, and then the walks got a bit longer. I could see that it was going to be close and kept telling myself I was too close to miss the time cutoff, dug in for that last mile and made it.
