OCD Princess Planners: Flights, Frights, Food, & a ToT Race, Too!!!

I also found out that he and his future bride will be down in WDW 9/26 to 9/29. Is that crazy? I am not sure that my dear future dil understands just how long of a flight it is and how much there is to do in WDW. Her plan is to fly down the night of 9/26. A red eye from seattle will put them arriving first thing in the morning on 9/27 (her birthday) They plan to stay with her friend (in the disney college program... which I didn't know they could have guests stay with them ) They will spend all day in Epcot for F&W on 9/27. Then 9/28 they will have a full day as well as some concert she wants to go to that I think is this night. Then on 9/29 they will finish up and catch a late night flight back. :faint: I am tired just thinking about it. I am pretty certain I will not see them while there are there. Strange to be there at the same time as one of my kids though....
I love that red eye, if it is the direct non stop one but OY that is a lot in 3 days. I am 99% sure that the DCP does not allow anyone to stay with them...that sounds odd. A woman on my DVC board was going down to pack up her DD, had booked OKW starting one day but would be arriving at 3am or so as she was driving down. Called member services was told she could do early checkin, got there, and nope..had to sit in the lobby till 6am. Couldn't go stay with her DD in the DCP room.

Running is going fine for me.... just routine at this point. Other than needing new shoes. I hate having to find new shoes. The shoes I was running in have a new model out... and of course they have to go and change things...so the new model doesn't work for me. :(

Any progress on the shoes? that is such a pain.

Where am I now, well I am still in Texas! I know I have been trying to get across Texas since I started back on January 1st, but Texas is a BIG STATE. I left Mesquite back at the end of March and merged onto I-20, which I will stay on until I reach Jackson, Mississippi…I have passed through (or by) the towns of Canton, Hideaway, Woodspring, and Owentown, Texas.

I absolutely love these updates!

but these RUDE people who I was doing a favor for by letting them use MY CAR did not have respect for me.

I would have been livid. It really sounds like you are doing GREAT! Slow steady improvement, recalibrating when you need to, sticking with it. You should be incredibly proud of yourself. I am glad changing day shoes seems to be helping. Calf stretches may allow you to get back to lower heels at some point, there may be some that are ok and some that aren't.

May 21 (Curves/Elliptical for 15 minutes): Not sure what got into me, but I dusted off the elliptical and did 15 minutes before school, STANDING. I sure have some along way in 7 months…remember when I could barely do 1 minute standing. I need to do this more on my non run days. Good Curves workout afterschool.

I have a dumb question but what do you mean by standing? Versus what? Sorry I am sure that is dumb but I am not sure what you mean by that.

Congrats on finishing your program!!!!!!!!!!

As for my foot... yeah. It hurts. Today was pretty bad taking off my shoe. I have been trying to work on form a bit...which means not heel striking. However, the heel striking I was doing this last month has helped to keep me off my forefoot and that turf toe injury. Nearly heeled, I thought I was ok.... but... all it takes is a little too much spring in my step and I am a hurting unit again. Add in that due to the heel striking I wore my shoes out... in a weird way. This caused me to get some not so pleasant blisters....so I got some new shoes. Of course, they don't work. I got huge blisters on the back of my heel due to too much slippage. (I have duck feet - wide in the forefoot and narrow at the heel) So now I have to figure out shoes again. :headache: I know I can do nike free runs... but they don't have much in the way of cushioning and I need that for my old joints on the longer runs. Oh... I hate figuring out new shoes.... and I finally found the "love of my life" shoes when I found my pureflows. Why do they have to change the design when they come out with new models???

Why do you have to work on your form? Jeff and I had a long conversation about that the other day. Growing up, heel strike was THE way to go and forefoot runners were doing it wrong. Now the theory has switched but yet if you look into it, really it is all over the board. The body moves the way it moves, it finds its own efficiency I think. I really hope you can find shoes that work, it is a nightmare.

Bulldog Dash 5K Saturday...

I hope it went well for you today and most importantly that you had fun. Walk, run, whatever. You are out there doing it! That is ALL that matters. Tell the other people to get out of your head. Sometimes we think too much, heavens knows I do.

I am so excited...Ann and I have decided to do the Wildlife Trek (A privately guided VIP expedition offering close encounters with exotic African wildlife in their native habitat) at Animal Kingdom on Sunday before the rest of the girls arrive!

It is SO much fun! You will LOVE it. Ann, I think there is a DVC discount...or maybe an AP one, you may want to check if you haven't already bought the tickets. There wasn't when I did it as it had just started but I bet there might be now.

Love the MK list!

I didn't think that they could stay in the room with her... but I didn't want to crush Kimberly's dreams. I did however speak to Zach and we discussed how while doing DLR in 3 days is doable, WDW really isn't. I suspect their plans may change now. :rolleyes1

I think overall I was fine until I got the turf toe injury. Then I started favoring that part of my foot and not landing on it. It has put odd stress on my ankles and heels that I don't normally experience. I think focusing on landing correctly helps to alleviate that and perform in my more normal way... but I have to also make sure to not flex that toe either... or ouch! So when it comes to landing...those are my reasons. Other aspects to form that I watch are keeping my head up rather than down... and not swinging my arms like a crazy person. :rotfl:

I will have to look into the discounts... I know there is one for the DV, but right now (and one of the reasons we are doing it) is that it is "on sale". So not sure if I can get a further discount on it or not. I will be calling to find out though. :thumbsup2

I absolutely love these updates!

Thanks...I am so ready to be out of Texas! LOL...

Thanks! I was pretty livid...and I am not very proud of my behavior. If you get on my wrong side I tend to be really quiet, until I EXPLODE!

My elliptical also has a seat that you can pull up and ride as a stationary bike.

Congrats on finishing your program!!!!!!!!!!

So glad to have finally finished it, with all the ups and downs with the shins it is nice to know I accomplished something. Tomorrow morning I start the 10K app! :scared::scared::scared:

I hope it went well for you today and most importantly that you had fun. Walk, run, whatever. You are out there doing it! That is ALL that matters. Tell the other people to get out of your head. Sometimes we think too much, heavens knows I do.

I have a really poor body image...I have never been thin but I hate what I look like right now...hate running with the pretty people. I just hate looking so silly coming in LAST!

WDW is running a $50 off special that we are using...so looking forward to bonding with Ann!

As I mentioned in my pre race jitters post I really was not looking forward to running and putting myself out in front of people that I know and work with on a daily basis. My nervousness and insecurities were not helped when I picked up my race packet the night before&the lady that checked me looked at me and assumed that I was walking, when I told her No, 5K she gave me a strange look. Maybe I imagined the tone in her voice and the look on her face, but still I left thinking Why on earth am I running this race, when there are other races in town this weekend where no one would know me! Setting those thoughts aside the rest of the evening were the thoughts that I had already paid for the race and people know that I am running it, so I could not really back out.

Race Packet:

Drawstring Backpack, Protein Bar, Race Number
(Not a lot&but as you will soon find out this event was a disorganized mess)

Saturday morning came soon enough and of course I awoke with the same insecurities as I tried to put aside the night before. I had bought a running skirt to wear, but as I tried it on I realized that I could not run it&while the waist was large, the hip and saddle bag/mommy pouch just did not look right. (Note to self: For ToT I need to make a circle skirt, not an athletic shaped shirt). So it was back to the Capri running pants and I decided to wear a school t-shirt to show my spirit. I decided against my green compression sleeves, although I love them I thought they would be too much of a clash with the bright red shirt..did not need anything more to be self conscience about. Then with a little peanut butter for fuel I headed off to the race. I arrived about 30 minutes early, expecting lots of people to be there, but found only a few people milling around and a couple teachers I know (you know the ones that run and are part of the skinny pretty young group). I instantly felt out of place with them in their cute running attire and me looking dumpy in what I had chosen to wear. As the race time neared, there still was not very many people (including the lady that I ran with back in January). Race start time comes and goes, with still very few runners and total disorganization. The PTO (parent teacher organization) at my school is a mess and this just highlighted how dysfunctional they really are. Last year the same race pulled in nearly 100 runners and about the same number of walkers. Today, the race consisted of 10 runners and about 30 walkers. So much for blending into the crowd. Finally at about 8:50 am (race was to start at 8:30) we were called to the starting line and I really felft out of place as the horn sounded. I had my game plan and I planned on sticking to it, but with my nerves/self consciousness I think that I started off a little too fast because by the end of the first mile I was dying and wondering how on earth I was going to finish the race (and of course there is no one in sight, all the other runners are way out ahead and the walkers have by now turned and headed back to the school), but I have started and I have to finish&everyone knows I will be last so just keep going. I questioned myself the whole time as to why this race seemed so hard, I have been running this distance for several weeks without trouble or really feeling out of sorts like I was at this moment. I stuck to my plan of 2 minutes run/1 minute walk for almost 2 ½ miles and then I switched to 1/1 ratio. Finally, as I am heading towards the finish line and I could see the stop clock in front of me...maybe I would make the time that I set for myself and with that I ran in the last 1/4 mile crossing the finish with a :35.40 time. I want to say that people were standing there at the end cheering me on, but all the running teachers had already left and the rest were busy setting up for the school fair that was scheduled to start already. Sigh, my running is so lonely even when I am doing a race. I am a little shocked with my time being that fast, maybe that is why I was struggling so much that my pace was far faster than what I had been practicing in my runs. Then I looked down and realized my app for the race had not stopped&I still had 0.2 miles to run according to the GPS. UGH, I thought I while I was running that I had turned too soon near the end of the race. So off I go and start running around the school until the app shuts off at :43.22 (must of have looked crazy). I figure about 3 minutes must have passed between the time I ended the race and realized the GPS was still running&SO REGARDLESS I still finished under 40 minutes. Goal accomplished.

First and foremost.. Congrats!!! You did awesome and I am so excited for you that your training seems to be paying off!

Second, was this course certified? Most are... if you have a bib. I think... I think the company that will do the chip timing usually has the course certified. (they go through and actually on the ground map the course and calculate the distance) SO... assuming that is the case, I assume your gps was off. I run probably one event a month and NEVER... not even with the RD events has my gps given me the same distance as the actual race distance. So I would say that 35:40 is your actual 3.1 distance time!!!!

Congrats! That is a great time!

 given that there were 30 walkers and only 10 runners that easily could have been why she thought that but either way you told her NO and did it!

I agree with Cynthia. I bet this is why she thought you were a walker. :goodvibes

No chip timing on this race....:sad2: the one timing system in the area was at another race. Was the race certified, probably not...

I got in my car the other day after school and drove the route...and I found my mistake...yes, I turned too soon...found the turn arrow about 2 blocks farther down. I hate when the course overlaps and you can't figure out the arrows...of course if I was running at an 8 minute mile I would be with other runners and following them....:cool1:

The lady that was giving out the packets is one of our "snouty" parents...you know the pretty people kind...she is not a nice person, so I would love to think that she thought I was a walker because of the amount of walkers...but the look on her face when I said 5K was priceless...of course with only 10 5K runners she should have already seen my name on her list...since I was one of the first on it and she made the list. :lmao:

We interrupt this regularly scheduled training report to give you a RACE UPDATE!popcorn:: I was still feeling sore from my 5K the week before and then really trying to amp up my weekly run schedule and workouts at curves...so instead of doing my scheduled 5 1/2 mile long run...

Brady Lee Beard: 1 Mile Run
June 8, 2013

A classmate of Goo's mother has started a summer running club, and Goo has been dying to join...last week was the first 3 practices of this new youth running club and I took Goo and ended up signing up for a 1 mile race on Saturday. I was not sure what he was going to do on his first race, so I signed up to run with him...1 mile. All week at practice he was his typical self at practice around his other 7 year old friends...not a great listener and with the heat (one night it was 104 at 8 pm when they finished their 1 hour workout) and not really focused on running (but being social).

Jeff decided to go with us on Saturday morning, while the other 2 slept in (they had a dance show the night before and got plenty of exercise from it). So we arrived at the park bright and early 7:15 am to pick up our packets (since I forgot the night before) and warm up with his teammates.

Drawstring Backpack, Race Shirt, Frisbee, notepad, sunscreen, and coupons...his had a lot more kid friendly coupons

After picking up his race packet, we ran into his teacher who was working the event. She was so excited that she was going to see him run and get to cheer him on. The team spent some time warming up, actually I think the poor coaches spent more time trying to corral all of the kids from 13 to 5 years old running 1 mile, 5K and 10K...our race was first so I lined up behind the kids with lots of adult volunteer "runners" doing this as a 1 mile walk to start the morning off. The gun went off and before I knew it I was struggling to keep up with a 7 year old...but we had gone over the race course...2 times around the park so I felt like as long as I kept him in sight. The first lap, I pushed myself to run the entire 1/2 mile...as I crossed the start to being my 2nd lap I could hear Goo's teacher cheering him on and then when I passed her I heard her tell another lady, "That's his mom." :rotfl2: I wasn't too far behind him thank goodness...about 2/3 of a mile I decided I could use a walk break and did a little walking to catch my breath for about 30 seconds before picking back up and trying to catch my little guy. He crossed the finish at :10.52 while I was right behind him at :11:11. I wish now that I would have pushed myself harder and not walked so I could have seen a 10 minute mile time, but hey I will take an 11 minute mile any day, considering where I started at 6 months ago when I could barely run 1/10th of a mile without dying! Goo's teacher was there at the finish line taking the runner tags from our numbers...and worst of a local tv station caught my finish...

http://www.newschannel10.com/category/161688/video?clipId=8972377&autostart=true
(Skip to :03.30 and you will see Goo start...he is on left and then my finish at about :04.14....oh joy :rotfl2:)

We watched the 5K/10K runners start and I found myself watching and then suddenly wishing that I was joining in...especially when I saw a few ladies more my size in the line up...and then watched them for a while and saw they were doing intervals...great, I picked the wrong race last week!

Jeff was chomping at the bit wanting to leave and not stay for awards...probably 2 hours later depending on how long the 10K runners took and then finalizing everything. So we left...I swear this man really ruins the joy of finishing and the accomplishment...from now on he is staying home!

Yeah- sounds like you are right on both accounts them :(. What do people like that gal think they are proving by doing something like that? I mean- obvious you are on the list, so by trying to intimidate you... She just comes across as stupid. (Cause only a stupid person would not realize that one of ten people that she put in a list was in front of her). Good grief :rolleyes

As for race... You still beat your goal. :cool1: for me, chip times events are important... As are the "perks" for running. Next weekend, I have a 5k. Considered not doin it because you get a Tshirt rather than a tech tee. It is local though... Like I just about run to the start on my longer runs. I need to look at last years results to get an idea of where I sit compared to last year. I must admit... The deciding factor was the fact top 5 male and female in each division get a prize as well as there being "random raffle prizes". I don't know off hand what they mean by division... Could just be all the men vs all the women (in which case it is unlikely I would be top 5). If however it is like age broken down in ten year spans.... Maybe. Most importantly though it is chipped and certified. I have enough "estimated" runs... Don't need to pay for one. ;)

Don't need to pay for one. ;)

We are doing the Color Run on Saturday...but again I don't expect to get a great time off of it...and Goo is running it with me. Then I have a 5K scheduled on my birthday at the end of the month...another one of Goo's running club events. My next race will be midJuly and that will be a 10K...then I am probably done until 10 miler...the rest of the races that Goo runs in throughout summer I am just letting him do...right now anyway. The chip time is not that important to me...other than the 10K for the time I need to turn into RunDisney...otherwise I am good just looking at the clock as I go across the finish line. Not completely accurate, but close enough for me...

Update June 10

As of June 10th I have 939 miles left till I reach the Tower of Terror. When I last updated I was in Owen, Texas headed for the Texas/Louisiana State Line. Since then I have traveled through the towns of Kilgore, Marshall, and Jonesville with 7 miles left to finally leave Texas behind in my rear view mirror!

Tammies ToT Training Update
Week 1 10K Training
June 3-9, 2013

What a great week of training it was for me, although I found my body sore from the 5K on Sunday (June 1)&I kept pushing myself to go father, go longer, and do more (which now in hindsight was not such a great idea).

Monday (June 3): I managed to get in both a 30 minute session on the elliptical (as a bike) and a session of curves!

Tuesday (June 4): It was a run day and I was really excited about being able to leave the kids in bed (they all are on summer break) and run before I headed to work. Today, I officially started the Galloway 10K app with a short run day. This morning it was a 31 minute run, which I completed 2.22 miles with a 14.1 minute mile pace. Not sure why the pace is so slow (other than muscle fatigue) because it really felt good while I was running. I also managed a session at Curves in the afternoon.

Wednesday (June 5): Today was a repeat of Monday with both a 30 minute elliptical session and a session at Curves&I am really rocking this week and feeling strong (but sore).

Thursday (June 6): This morning was day 2 of my 10K running program, a short 31 minute run before school. What a perfect morning to run, it was cool thanks to the rain the night before. My pace was really good today 13.7 minute mile with a distance of 2.3 miles. I also did a session at Curves afterschool.

Friday (June 7): I decided to take the day off from any exercise since I had planned to do the 1 mile fun run the next day with Goo and plus get in my long run before the fun run.

Saturday (June 8): After thinking about the race time start and needing to pick up our packets (forgot on Friday night), I opted to postpone my long run for another day. I hate getting off schedule but I knew I needed almost 1 ½ hours for my run and I simply just did not have time. A little follow up from my RACE REPORT POST. I earned my first BLING&.lol and Goo did too! We both took 1st place in our age divisions. I only ran the race to keep an eye on Goo and never thought they would have medals and prizes for adults in the 1-mile fun run. I feel weird about the BLING, since all the other adults were walking. Not only did I get bling but a $25 gift card to Logans Roadhouse. Yum&.steak!

Sunday (June 9): Today was the day to push myself even farther, long run day and the longest run I have EVER DONE at 5 ½ miles. I prepped for the morning a few days before mapping out a course around my neighborhood instead of running at the park (11 laps around the park just did not seem like any fun). The morning was nice a cool again, thanks to much needed rain earlier. I was excited to run&really, what is going on with me excited about getting up early and running!? The run started off great with the warm up, but then Jeff started into the workout differently than he had ever done before so I instantly thought that I pulled up the wrong workout and I started the workout over again&another warm up, ugh and the workout again was different&I just kept it running instead of starting it over and I soon learned that it was a 3 minute warm-up, 15 minute prerun, the run, 15 minute postrun, and 3 minute cool down&.later I realized that if I just read the description I would have known the change&this was the first time Jeff Galloway was using prerun and postrun sessions. The run was pretty uneventful, I just got in the zone and DID it. I finished the workout with a distance of 5.5 miles at a 13.8 minute mile pace&not bad! I actually thought to myself that maybe I am going to be able to handle 10 miles and not get swept!

Tammie’s ToT Training Update
Week 2 10K Training
June 10-16, 2013

My training this week did not go as good as my first week on the 10K program, due to pushing it too much during the previous week.

Monday, June 10: This morning I did 7.5 miles on the ellipitical before school and a Curves workout after school. Goo had running club practice so while he practiced I did another mile around the track walking. I fully intended to walk more, but I found that my legs were REALLY tired and I just could not seem to get them to work out the soreness...this should have been a huge WARNING flag for me.

Tuesday, June 11: Woke up early for my short run workout (31 minutes) before heading off to school. From the start, I knew something was up and about 1/2 way into the run the SHIN SPLINTS decided to rear their ugly heads again. However, I pushed on till I finished. I am so tired of having such a great run and feeling confident that I can actually do this and a few days later be knocked down again...I finished with a 16.7 minute/mile pace....sadly that will get me swept! No Curves for me or walking during Goo's running club for me tonight. Instead, I spent a lot of time with the golf ball and the roller massaging my feet and shins and I guess I need to take Wednesday off for complete rest.

Thursday, June 13: I woke up again early to try and see if I could get a short run workout in without pain. I have to say that I HATE getting up this early, but I so love the cool temps and the peacefulness that comes with running at dawn. As I hit the park trail, I tuned into each step of the run, praying that I had fought back the shin splints another time. While I can't say that I was totally pain free, I did manage to complete with run with a 13.9 minute/mile pace. WAHOO...gotta love the golf ball and foam roller...thanks ANN!

Sadly I did not get to Curves on Thursday or Friday, like I had planned...to much to do in the afternoons! I hate not going, becasuse although I am not sure that it is doing anything for me...it feels good to go!

Next up, long run day Saturday...another race report.

Race Report
Color Run (Round 2)
June 15, 2013

This morning was supposed to be my long run day of the week (3.8 miles) but instead I opted for a 5K run...yes, another Color Run. Remember back to March it was just Ab and Boo that ran in the first Color Run we did...Goo and dad sat back and waited and watched. After seeing all the color paint fun, Goo was mad that he did not get to run...so when the Color Run was announced for our hometown I signed all 4 of us to do it together.

Going into today, I knew that my run would be shorter than what I was supposed to run (but I figured the distance to and from the race would be my walking warm up so I should be pretty close to my distance). I also knew that my time would be off my last 5K because I would have a 7 year old to run with along with 14,999 of my fellow participants to deal with. A Color Run is not for runners who are looking for a time, you can run but you are dealing with swearing in, out and around walkers, little children, strollers....plus it is not even timed.

From our experience on our first Color Run we knew that we had to be at the start EARLY or we would be standing in the chute for 2 hours before we actually got to start. It was a late night before, but the kids happily got up and got around at 6:30 am...okay, Boo was not happy. He had spent the week at Boy Scout Leadership Camp, and then had to come home and do a dance performance show for the Scouting Group that he and Ab are in...lots of physical movement in the dances that they do (Native American Pow Wow style). We arrived at the park where the run was being held and it was already a sea of white stretching as far as the eye could see. I made a call to squeeze ourself into the crowd near the start of the race.

I know, not great manners but we had a lot to do today and I really did not want to wait for 2 hours to run. We waited for about 45 minutes...and while we did to keep Goo entertained I gave him a package of the paint.

He had a great time...as you can tell by the picture. There was another little boy who was standing near us having a panic attack because he was playing with the paint powder. He kept telling me and Goo that we were no supposed to play with the paint until AFTER the race, I told him it was okay but he continued at Goo...so annoying (in fact the whole group of people we was with were annoying). About 45 minutes into our prerace wait they started moving the crowd up inot the actually chute...and somehow we found ourselves inbetween parts of this little boys group...on of the women yelled to her separated group that we cut them off...ahhh, excuse me...I don't think so because there were lots of people inbetween them...not just us, I wanted to tell her if she would have shut her big mouth and paid attention she would have not gotten separated, but she was having too much fun making fun of people around her and passing by...so rude. The kids and I worked our way away from the group as much as possible as we continued to move up in the chute. Not long after the National Anthem was played and the helicopter made its circle dropping paint on the starting line and the first wave was let out. We ended up being the third wave. While we waited I went over the game plan with the kids...we would run 2 minutes and walk 1 minute and stick together...doing this as a family. Boo was still pretty grumpy and Goo was annoying him...I could sense that he was not in the mood for this race...but dang it mom wanted to do something as a family so get HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. When it was our time out of the chute, my boys decided to take off at a dead run, which I have been trying to teach them is not what you do on a long race. So for the first 4 minutes we ran, until Goo slowed but Boo kept going and before I knew it he was out of sight in the mass of people:scared1:...great, how on earth am I ever going to find him...cell phones are not working because of the mass of people, he does not even have a phone on him, and we did not have a meeting place picked out if we got separated. I was mad!!!!! :furious::furious::furious: But we still had a race to run, right before the first color (1K) Goo decides he is tired and starts complaining, but I get him back on track with the walk break, but as the race continued he got worse and worse complaining and whining....Ab and I literally drug him through about 1/2 of the race whining and throwing a fit. His feet hurt, he was tired, the paint got in his eyes...UGH...the reason I did not let him run the first time and during the whole time I was mad at Boo in addition to dealing with Goo. Finally, we crossed the finish line...with a time of about 42 minutes....:rotfl2: the same time I got back in March when it was just me running...this time I did the whole 5K dragging a walking complaining child...I would say that I have improved greatly in 3 months. At the finish line we grabbed our granola bar and some water and then set out to find Boo. Any other normal person would be waiting near the finish line if they got separated, so we walked up and down the finish line area looking for him...finally about 15 minutes later he crosses the finish line....:confused3 how on earth did he end up behind us! After a really good tongue lashing from me, the 4 of us headed to the after party for a little paint fun before heading home to get cleaned up!

Yesterday really super duper took it out of me. I ran my 6 miles... it was a great run. I managed to stay at an even pace for the entire time. When I look at my graph, despite any amount of incline... the line indicating my pace stays very flat. I normally will slow and then speed back up, giving me a gagged line.

Then I worked. Ug... too much work.

Then I met up with Kira, Josh and Steve to run the roadrunner adventure run. The way the run works is that you are revealed a map right as the race starts. If you preregister (which is a free event btw) then you get it sent to your phone on an actual map. If not, you have to take a picture of the large map that is dropped and then right down notes on what each check point is. If you have a special shirt (steve and I each bought one last month) then you get twice the tickets at each check point. Tickets are turned in and at one hour after the start, they begin to raffle prizes. The site lists $3000 in prizes gven away. I believe it... LOTS of sponsors and goodies.

Now... last month really wasn't much of a challenge. We didn't hit check points very far from the start/finish. Last month we had ample time to get to those check points and then return to turn in our tickets Kira and Josh took off on their own. Steve and I then wanted to try and hit some of the check points further away. We had not yet made it to the one furthest out when I realized we had about 15 minutes left to get back. Steve was really struggling by this point. I knew it would be tough for me to get back (about 2 miles) So I knew he wouldn't be able to. I told him to give me his bag of tickets and I would turn them in. I ran ahead.

In total it was about 4 miles (yes, taking me up to roughly 10 for the day... ya think I am ready for ToT?) I was able to hit a couple check points on my way back through (but couldn't stop for the goodies at those ones... just had to grab tickets and go) I got back JUST in time to get our tickets turned in.

It was very rainy, but the crowd was dense. I figured that Steve would arrive after me... but would hang back while they raffled prizes. Josh won a free oil change and a burrito party for 10 and one of the local restaurants. Kira didn't win anything, but with all the freebies (they load you up on water bottles... food products... all sorts of cool stuff) she was happy. Steve didnt have as many tickets as I did... plus the gal from the event or Kira who helped me to get his tickets turned in, turned in the same ticket from one set (you are suppose to keep one side..tear off the other and instead they turned in full sets...kept full sets) So Steve didn't win anything. It was nearing the end and I didn't win anything yet... and I was feeling kinda sad to have left Steve in the dust for...nothing. THEN they decided enough of standing in the rain and decided the next ticket would get the remaining prizes. Well... I won a case of muscle milk, a gc for a one hour massage, a gc for $40 worth of amphipod water bottles, a $10 gc to a pizza restaurant, a $10 gc to a mexican restaurant and $75 toward a set of crossfit classes (making them free).

Meanwhile, Steve had not yet found us in the crowd of very wet people. I thought maybe he had just decided to hang out in the parking garage near our cars.. nope. Kira, Josh and I decided that Josh would drive around. Kira would stay put and I would go back to the after party to see if he was there. Finally he showed up to the garage. It had taken him and hour and 15 minutes to get back. He was really really hurting! Then he wanted to just leave... he didn't want to talk to us. He was MAD. I assumed he was mad at me for pushing him to run most of that first 2 miles. I decided I am HORRIBLE with running with people. I did ask numerous times if I was killing him. Each time he said no. Still... no more running with people for me. (Sorry, Tammie) I just end up causing people pain.:(

I forgot to also mention that I had ran in completely new shoes yesterday. The brooks I had got had caused blisters... changing sizes didn't help. So I went back and got... NOT minimalist shoes. :faint: They actually are the same ones Steve runs in...only mine are the mizuno wave 16 and his are last years 15. I found myself hurting in ways I don't normally... but maybe it is the mileage? Maybe it was the physical work that I did in my job? I just have to give it another shot. The difference in heel to toe drop was noticeable to me... and I had to fight to keep from heel striking (which could account for the shin pain I was experiencing) They were not too much heavier though... and the good news is the heel doesn't rub and cause blisters AND my bunion was not in the least bit irritated by the shoe!!!!:cool1:

I don't care how many runners or walkers there were... You finished first in your division. That is certainly something to be proud about. AND to get the bling and gc is awesome!!

:worship: I can't believe how much you work out!! I need my non run days. I think I would never be able to do all that you do in addition to the running.

The color run sounds like it was a tad frustrating! I have yet to run with Zoe for the reasons you mention. Someday soon... I will have her with me during a fun run. I contemplated the electric run in August... but since I probably won't do that...

AND :cool1::cool1: for double digits!!

You all want to read another race report, right? ::yes::

Ok, so on the day Tammie and her family did the color run I was out with Steve doing a 5k. It was suppose to be a long run day for me too, but since I had been using my worn out shoes quite a bit... my ankles were a tad sore. I figured doing just 5k would be a welcome break.

The race was very local. I could have probably run to the start from my house since on my long runs I loop not too far from where the start of this race was. It made it nice because while the start time was 8am, we didn't need to leave too early to get there. We did however have to leave earlier than we would have had I not totally spaced picking up our race packets the day before. :sad2:

The start was going to be on a track at a school. I had never been to this school (near by town) so I was surprised that it was a dirt track. Weird.

Anyway, there was LOTS of people already there so we parked about a quarter mile from the start/finish/packet pick up area. We got to the packet pick up and by the time we were there, my ankle had started to gush. Yep... those icky blisters had burst. :crazy2:

We had to walk back to drop off our packets. In it... lots of pamphlets for future races sponsored by fleetfeat.... our bibs and dorritos. Dorritos? Back at the car, we got our bibs put on. It was not like other events I had done where the bib held the chip. Instead, not only did the chip come separate, but they wanted it back at the end. There were instructions on how to zip tie it on to your shoe or use your laces to tie it on. Steve decided to just put it it in his pocket. (BAD IDEA)

The race started and the cluster of people was ridiculous. It was like the phm again...with walkers blocking the entire path almost immediately. :confused3 I weaved a bit and lost Steve. Once around the track and then out into the "real world" It was on one of the down town streets close to the one mile mark that I caught up to Steve. I am not sure where he came from nor how I was behind him. Well... yes.. probably behind because I got stuck behind walkers...who just wouldn't move.

We ran a short bit together but by about 1.5 miles we were separate again and I had forged ahead. I passed more and more people. I had my sights on one or two gals ahead of me that I never was able to catch. :headache: I should have pushed harder to catch them.

I finished the race in 27:36. It was weird because as you cross the finish, they immediately are giving you a medal and untying your shoes to get that chip.

Wait, did that say I finished 4th? :cool1: I knew that first 5 in each age division got a prize.

I waited for Steve to finish. He came in at about 35 minutes. Sorry... not pictures of him. However I got him to take a picture of me with my snazy prize.

Since Steve had to look at his time place and I wanted a better set of pictures (those first ones are blurry) We went to the computers to check.

Steve was VERY disappointed to learn that since his chip was in his pocket it NEVER picked up him crossing start or finish. I was disappointed to see this.

Notice my gender place (19 out of like 98 women) and my over all place (46 out of 153 or 154 if you count Steve ;)) stay the same. The division place was now 5th. Well, apparently someone had put their gender as female (thus why my over all place was not changed in gender or overall) but had put their age as 0. I am not sure how she finished ahead of me since I came in before her. (unless she was near the back of the walkers and could not start for some time)

So upon checking that I was told I could get my 5th place ribbon instead. At first I was a little irritated that I would have to walk back to my car to retrieve the 4th place ribbon (oh yes, did I mention I had already been to my car and dropped off said ribbon? The car that was parked a quarter mile away) The gal felt horrible though about having given me 4th prematurely (come on... this was like 30 minutes after I finished...so changing it that far after the finish seems a bit silly..so prematurely seems a stretch.) She said I didn't need to go back to retrieve the ribbon.

In the end I was happy enough... 5th was pink. Steve however was LIVID. He has vowed to never run another event held by them. It is true, there should have been a warning that the chip had to be near to the ground in order to be picked up. However the instructions did say to place on shoe...and he chose not to. In his defense though, he is very knowledgable about gadgety workings. The chips that are on normal bibs are strong enough that if you swallow them they will still pick up. The are also super cheap. So why this company went with an even cheaper chip (like the difference of 10 cents vs..??)... :confused3

I guess last weeks race and this weeks adventure run have taken its tole on Steves running motivation. It makes me worry about the donald in January. :(

When I look at my graph, despite any amount of incline... the line indicating my pace stays very flat. I normally will slow and then speed back up, giving me a gagged line.

Nice job...I really should look into run keeper, maybe after I finish the 10K app...right now I am happy with the info it is giving me...

Then I worked. Ug... too much work.

YUCK YUCK YUCK

WAHOO

No the people you run with need to communicate what they want from you...you have been more than upfront about how you run...Steve should know that you are going for time...its not completely you!

I forgot to also mention that I had ran in completely new shoes yesterday. The brooks I had got had caused blisters... changing sizes didn't help. So I went back and got... Sounds like shin splints to me...the causes are all there...new shoes, distance, hills....

I don't care how many runners or walkers there were... You finished first in your division. That is certainly something to be proud about. AND to get the bling and gc is awesome!!

I think it was totally silly to give adults a medal in a 1 mile run that most people who are participating in are volunteers walking...I feel totally silly with this medal...but I sure enjoyed the steak from Logans...took Jeff out for fathers day!

:worship: I can't believe how much you work out!! I need my non run days. I think I would never be able to do all that you do in addition to the running.

Only cause I am so out of shape, you would think I would be dropping weight...NOT...still stuck

The color run sounds like it was a tad frustrating! I have yet to run with Zoe for the reasons you mention. Someday soon... I will have her with me during a fun run. I contemplated the electric run in August... but since I probably won't do that...

A tad frustrating...I could have killed my 2 sons when it was over...and during...

AND :cool1::cool1: for double digits!!

So glad we are at double digits...need something exciting to think about!
