We drove down in August of 2006 with my DD and DS (6&4). My husband is very possesive of the wheel so I can say that I only drove maybe 5 hours if any.
Anyway, we made a pitstop into SC for a night and then drove into Savannah to go to Lady & Sons and meet with my BF from Atlanta. Then right afterwards stayed at a rinky dink outside the gates before we checked in the next day.
Coming back, we drove until night, stayed and then drove the rest of the way back and I think I got in 3 hours of driving this time.![]()
The drive's not bad, the kids were good. Thank God for DVD players in the car!
We might do Amtrak this year b/c DS is a Thomas the Tank Engine freak!!!
Anyone ever take the train?
I have never rode a train for more than 25 minutes but it sounds like fun. My DS was a Thomas fanatic. We went several times to a Day Out With Thomas. If you have an old railway museum in your area with track you might check and see if they have such an event. You get to ride in a railcar pulled by Thomas and then there are all kinds of fun activities going on all day.
We are from Ohio but love to go to the one in Kentucky. They have all kinds of train display up at the museum that my son would watch all day if you let him.

God bless you and your wife!! Just the thought scares me. We did recently purcahse the DVD players for the car so that would certainly be a nice distration but I am still scarred from the drive to Daytona. If the airline prices are still too high by the time we are ready to purchase, driving will certainly be an option. I will just have to drug myself..just kidding (well, maybe).
. Sadly, when we were there the week after Thanksgiving in 06 my DS got really sick and had to spend 2 days in the hospital when we returned. I spent so much time worrying about him it is hard to remember much else. We still had a wonderful time before he got sick and it was beautiful, but the trip did not go as planned. FYI, licking the table leg at Hollywood and Vine is a great way to get the Norwalk virus. Boys...

I'm currently planning 08's trip. He's fully onboard now and looks forward to the trip. Have a great time!!
this is her birthday gift and needless to say we cant wait
. Hope to bump into some of you out there.
