November 26, 2005/ 7 day Eastern Magic

My son will be getting his extra assignments next week, so he can get all his work done before we leave. I remember going on vacation as a kid and having to bring my schoolwork along. :sad1: It was so depressing. I did give my son the option of doing the work on the cruise or ahead and time and he definitely wants to get them out of the way.

DD5 (6 at time of cruise) has the week of Thanksgiving off. She will do it then. Anything not done prior to cruise will be done on cruise. She has total control over this. Normally she gets her homework Friday night and it is due the following Friday, so she understands scheduling her work. Since she will have a spelling test the Monday she gets back, we will have a contest. Find the words as many times as you can during the cruise.

My weekly question for the group - Homework. :teacher: I read that someone was getting their child ahead by doing their classwork now. I read that there is a room on the ship to do homework. I don't want to do that. What are the other parents doing? In my locality, the DC is not an approved absence. We will get a letter from the school board as a result of the days off, but I have informed the kids' teachers of the trip and they will give me the work on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I think I will let them do the homework while the DH is playing golf. Would to love to read your thoughts.

I gotta share that this is one of long, long, long list of reason for homeschooling. We can leave for vacation and no one sends us a letter . . .LOL. Our trip to SeaWorld makes a great field trip. We just started our study of Antartica for history so it will be cool to see the animals and other things at SeaWorld. We start school at the beginning of August each year so we can finish early. Since I control our schedule, we'll just do some school work between Christmas and New Year to make up for what we missed. Why does the school board waste our taxes by taking the time and money to send you a letter about something you already know? Ummmm . . .

Okay, off my soap box . . .

Guess I was always jealous of my friends who got taken out of school to go on vacation when I never got to do it . . .LOL

We picked up a night light today for the trip . . just checking things off the list. . .

Keep on packing!!

Doing the "Doc Dance"!!! I also got my Disney Reward card so I can spend all that $$ I've been saving by "using" my Disney Visa (I know an oxy-moron that's me).

Homework: My DD's school considers any days missed over 3 truant unless you take an Independant Study package. Luckily the principal is being great about letting the teachers give her (and her BGF who's going w/us) their assignments ahead of time (she's 3 days ahead in math so far, but we're going to be gone a total of 7 school days so we're trying to pick the assignments to complete that will either require a HUGE book to tote 6k miles RT or the ones that are "write in a journal about what you did EVERYDAY").

We'll see how far they get, keep your fingers crossed. Doing homework on a vacation is THE PITS.

Lisa
Leaving in 9 days 23hrs and 45min for WDW/DCL

OK - I feel much better now that I got that out of my system!

Since I've been working 70+ hours a week for the last few weeks... I have been become the ultimate procrastinator. I've got nothing done. My husband finally figured out that the chances were slim to none that I would get to Home Depot... so he stopped himself today. He has a tendancy to over do things, so I now have 30 green Mickey Heads in various shades of green. Which shade of green is everyone else using?

Magnets :scared: - Does anyone have any objections to Pittsburgh Steeler magnets? Pittsburgh is not a big tourist town... but we LOVE our Steelers, and I'm having a hard time finding a Pittsburgh magnet. Let me know your thoughts... I don't wan't to offend anyone.

Hi Katiesmom! If you bring Steelers magnets, I'd be happy to trade with you. We live outside of Tampa. My hubby and I are GB fans, but I have a good friend who is a rabid Steelers fan. I could add it to her Christmas gift and she would love it. 17 days and counting!

No objection from a Pats fan!! Winning 3 of 4last Superbowls gives you tolerence of others!

Re: Magnets - If you bring Steelers magnets, does that mean I get to bring Cardinals magnets?

RE: Color - I believe we are using Alien Green. Grandma took them so I will confirm.

We are going to use the Mickey that DisneyBride96 posted earlier on in the thread.

I do not care if you bring Cardinals or Steelers magnets. My DW won't let me bring NC State magnets.

I am glad to see everyone is getting there documents. I keep updating the list as I see them.

Poor Jon, we weren't talking soccer (although your wolfpack is doing pretty good in soccer), we were talking the other football. :rotfl:

Of course, NC State could probably beat the Cardinals. :goodvibes Do you think anyone would trade for a AZ Cardinal magnet?

I will trade with anybody. This is hopefully fun for everyone and I do not care what magnets I come back with. However, I will definitely trade with anyone that brings a Cowboys magnet.

As for NC State - I understand they are not doing well(Actually, they are stinking up the place :crazy2: ), however, they did beat Florida State last weekend at FSU. They can beat the #9 team in the country, but can't beat anyone else. Typically NC State. You will see the same thing in Basketball from them.

We would love to trade for a Pittsburgh Steeler magnet!!!! Maybe I should be looking for Virginia Tech magnets. That would be easy to find.

jjbescher, as a Hokie, I can empathize with your plight. I remember the years when we could only beat teams that were ranked 10 or higher, but we couldn't touch anyone else . . .LOL. Keep the faith. Every year is a new one :)

I finished another website last night. Only 3 more to go! as well as the FIRST LEGO competition on Saturday . . . I will really enjoy relaxing! DH says it's okay if I just lay on the deck for 7 days and read mindless novels.

Well off to get school work finished. . .

Have a super day!

Oh, and if you're looking to find me on the first Saturday we're on the ship, I'll be hiding in Diversions watching Virginia Tech smoke North Carolina - well all providing Vick gets the butter off his fingers . . .LOL.

Have a super day!

I would rather be watching NC State beat Maryland(We can only hope).

On our name tags, I think I am going to put our name and my user-id. This way you know who I am by the user-id.

I got the Sonic Boom green. Lighting was bad in my Home Depot and the Alien Green looked kind of yellow to me. Oh well, I'm guess they'll do. I'm sure the other non-DISers will be wondering why they don't have green tags :rotfl2: !

Here are my questions for the day:
1. Is it OK for kids to wear dress shorts to dinner on casual nights? The docs said no shorts at dinner but is that just for adults?

2. Is it cold in the dining rooms and shows? Just wondering if I need to drag sweaters around with us.

3. I'm sort of confused about the Bahamas Immigration Arrival Cards we got with our docs. Are they for Castaway Cay?

4. In the Passport to Disney Magic booklet (page 30) it says stateroom dining is at no charge except for snacks and drinks. Is this true? Seems like everyone's always talking about cheese plates and Mickey bars from room service.

Thanks for you help! :boat:

Well that's all for now. Take care and get to packing :earboy2:

As for the homework, each one of my dk's teacher are handling it different I think. One said she would give us some before we leave but didn't want to give to much just in case she did not get that far in class and then we would be ahead of the class when we got back. The other two teachers didn't have much to say, but they know that we take them out of school for at least 8 days if not a little more every year for vacation. They go to a private school so they are okay with family time. But I am a little worried about my 5th grade ds I think he is going to have a ton of homework. We may bring some to do on the plane or in the hotel room while we are at disney, (if he is waiting for us to get ready) But I'm not going to make them do all of it on vacation, that would defeat the purpose of a vacation. And that is not what I want them to remember when they think of our vacations. But that is just my opinion so it may not be worth much!!!!! Can't wait to meet everyone in person!!!!

I have a Cowboys magnet that now has your name on it. Next stop, Home Depot.

See everyone soon

Hi DiaLady,

I hear ya! My wife and I are Homeschooling our two boys :teacher:   . There are many times and reasons I am glad we are not in "the system".
I agree that there will be lots of teachable moments on the cruise. As I always tell the boys..."the World is our Classroom".
We will have to get together and chat!

1 - They would prefer that no one wear shorts.

2 - Depending on you are during the summer time. Remember, you will be outside most of the time and when you go in the rooms will be air conditioned. I like it, but my DW will have something to keep her room as she is always cold.

3 - Yes the docs are for Castaway Cay. Since we are docking in the Bahamas they need to be filled out.

4 - The only thing I have heard of being any extra cost from room service is Drinks. I have not heard of any food being an extra cost. Don't forget you can order the Mickey Bars :mickeybar even though it is not on the menu.
