I've been "stalking" this thread for a while now and I thought it was time I joined in on all the fun. We are planning on going Nov 24th-Dec 1st and staying at POP. I am hoping for that FD pin and am even willing to change up my plans based on it. I am traveling with DH, DS-4 DD-8 and myself. My DS first trip. I just wanted to say hi and get in on the fun.

I was reading the posts about the pearls at Epcot so I looked on ebay for the carriages. I found a cinderella cage necklace. That would be perfect for a little princess. It comes with the pearl but I emailed them to see if they would sell it without the pearl. I just searched pearl carriage and it came up as wish pearl necklace cinderella carriage.

I got a carriage one from ebay for $10 shipped i think...loved it!!!!!!!!!! I put my pearl in it from Dec-it was a goldish pearl!

Just wondering if any of ya'll are planning to spend anytime over at the "Dark Side"? (Universal:laughing:) I"m starting to think about a day there. Would you do both parks or just pick one? It will just be hubby and myself.

Got TWO more Disney Destinations emails yesterday... One to order my FREE Disney Planning Video, the other was basically an ad telling me about the current RO spring discount for the GP. This DOES mean I'm getting closer to the almight PIN right? :worship::confused3:cool1::rotfl::confused3

Sounds close to me!!!:goodvibes

I'd love to go but since this is my DS first trip we are going 100% Disney. Next time . . . .

I keep saying we are going to do this everytime we go to Disney. And everytime, I change my mind. :lmao:Maybe this time though.......who knows. :confused3 :rotfl:

Ya'll are going to have an awesome time. On this trip we have several family members going for the first time. Adults and children. I can't wait to see their faces and share things with them. :goodvibes

Right now we have 21 going. But it is looking like 2 more are joining us. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Out of curiosity, the people who are actually getting pins for the November time frame, whether they be FD, or % off of resorts, etc, I have a question: When you actually receive your pin code, did you already have a trip booked, potential trips saved on Disneyworld.com, etc?

Hi all! Happy almost-friday to you.

I've been reading a lot here about people buying/renting "points" for various rooms at the DVC. Could someone explain a little bit how that works please? I looked on a website a while ago and it said about buying timeshares (or something?) for about $18,000 or something like that. Well, that counts me out! :rotfl2: But i'm wondering now if i'm missing something, or just didn't understand it right. Is that what some of you guys are doing?

There is a BIG difference between buying (18,000) a timeshare and renting points. To rent points, you need to find someone who is actually renting out their own personal points. That could be anywhere from $8 per point to $13 dollars per point (usually pending on how long they can be used). I would suggest checking out David's DVC page. All points are 13 a point, but it is BBB accredited. Most places are between 100-230 points for a week (I believe). Check it out!

Thank you, whodatdare! Sounds like i certainly didn't understand how it works. I'll check David's to see if it's something that works for us. At least it's maybe a possibility now, being that we don't have to fork over $18 grand! So then, when you rent points, are you getting them from the people who "did" fork over the $18 grand??? :confused3 and if that's the case, are the people that spend that money doing it not for a vacation, but rather as investments instead? I thought the $18 grand DVC stuff was to go on vacations, but I'd have to go to WDW a HECK of a LOT of times to make up THAT kinda money. I can be so stupid sometimes.

BTW, we're going to POFQ week after Thanksgiving!!! :cool1:

I wanted to do the same, but could only find the silver plated. I heard you can put clear nail polish on them and they hold up pretty well, but I didn't try it. I paid too much for a basic setting on the silk chains for them instead.

I heard that too, but pearls are so sensitive to chemicals that I would be scared to do that. :scared1: I'm sure it's beautiful.

I keep getting that same email with the current offer. Really, Disney? Have you not see the dates on my saved offers? :rotfl:

You can get them without the pearl and oyster also. $4.50, plus $3.00 shipping.

We aren't...mainly because I think the kids would enjoy Disney more at their age, but when the kids get older, we will definitely be going!

WOW! That is a huge group!

Basically, you can rent points from someone who owns in DVC. You stay at a DVC resort for a fraction of the rack rate. You can add the dining plan to your reservation, but your not eligible for free dining. The DVC owner makes your room reservations for you. You can rent directly from an owner or from someone like David's rental (or whatever it's called). Lots of people do it, and it's definitely a great option.

Received a 30% off pin code for my dates in November in the mail yesterday!:cool1::woohoo::yay:

That's awesome! :cool1: But I must admit I'm jealous. Come on, PIN fairy, please, please, pretty please send me a PIN! :lovestruc

Wanted to say hello!

Just booked yesterday, based on the PIN that I received in the mail yesterday. Totally spontaneous...well by way of several months to plan and stress but this trip wasn't planned at all. I'm wondering if FD will be offered for November, we booked for the 11-16....Here's hoping!

We got a PIN! 30% off all types of resorts, up until Nov. 30th. Some blackout days in there, thats ok!

This is awesome!
CONgRATS!!

Welcome- here's hoping FD comes out for you! What a great age for your son's first trip. Mine is 4 as well!

We haven't yet, we might one day, but right now, our son is 4, so he can't do a lot of the thrill rides. I'd love to do the Harry Potter thing, but I figure we will give it a few years. I've done Universal on both coasts, but never IOA.

Purchasing is quite different than renting with DVC. I think our 200 points at BLT worked out to about $23k, you can pay cash or finance through a loan. Points can range a lot- i know for BLT, we paid like $115 per point. Some go for a lot less (especially back in the day), some for more. OUCH- i know, but thrilled I have a guaranteed room for the next 50 years at BLT!! LOL!

For renting, you pay anywhere from $8-15 probably, just depends. I would say $10-$12 is more average on renting. But you can rent from a DVC owner. a lot of times, owners simply can't use their points and decide to rent (or need the cash). Most of those deals are done privately and there isn't a guarantee- meaning, you could get screwed over, but it is a risk you take. If you go through someone like David's, you might pay a little more per point, but you get peace of mind and aren't risking that the owner will back out or not make the ressie right for you. I have heard of folks renting directly from an owner and getting screwed, but it's been few and far between. I think most owners are pretty legit when they do it and most have a great experience. But using a service like David's is a nice compromise. I've heard great things about them. If we ever had points leftover that we want to rent, i might look at working with him. But so far, that hasn't been an issue, in fact, i've borrowed into 2013 already. :lmao: If only I could afford more points right now. Maybe one day!:rotfl:

Renting is a GREAT option for someone looking to get into a villa- that is traveling with a larger party. Having that washer/dryer and full kitchen is amazing. We were in a 1 bedroom villa in 2010, our first DVC stay. WE just did a studio in october this year and I was really missing having laundry and kitchen! It can be a great solution to try renting points if you have 5 or more in your party especially to get a nice 1-2 bedroom. Rack rates for those villas are just simply insane usually, so points is the way to go usually.:thumbsup2

Thanks, happy mom! (hope you're feeling better, too!) I know that the Wilderness Lodge has DVC rooms. So if you went that route, would you check in at the "regular" hotel check-in? Or do you go to a different place to check-in?

For WL, there is not a separate check in, you check in at the main front desk and then head to the Villas area. There is a separate mini lobby down there etc.

Same for BLT, we check in at the Contemporary main desk. There is a separate lobby with a CM always stationed there to answer questions, but not a check in at Bay Lake. Same with concierge, etc. We have to head to the CR, which is fine, it is an easy and beautiful walk across the bridge.

I couldn't tell you on the other DVC resorts, as I haven't stayed there. I assume at mostly all, you check in at the main resort desk like you do with WL and CR/BLT.

I saved trips than called to book mine. When I called they said I could have 20% off room on certain nights (no Fri. Sat.) and about two weeks after I booked I got the same offer via a PIN in the mail.

DH and I did both parks in one day during Spring break in April last year. We saw everything we wanted to between the parks. We skipped a lot of the younger kid stuff. I did not want to do anything but Disney but we ended up doing everything but Disney. I was pleasantly surprised by the week.

sorry, i know i'm really being stupid here. Earlier it was suggested that renting a week's stay might be about $1300, if i calculated correctly. I think it was about $100/point. But it cost you $23k for only 200 points???? So my thinking is obviously still wrong. and you say you have a room guaranteed for the next 50 years for that? Literally? Or figuratively? How often/long are you allowed to stay for that amount of $? Is it for 1-week vacations, once a year? What do you get for buying $23k worth? I'm sorry, i still don't quite understand it yet. I'm just dense i guess. :rotfl:
