Got my docs today. I was hoping to get an upgrade since I booked on a guarantee and had not received my docs with only 3 weeks to sail. But no such luck. Now I'm wondering what the advantage of booking on a guarantee is. I certainly wouln't of picked a room under the dance floor. I'm a very bad sleeper or I woun't care (and it's 7 days). I'm hoping to buy an upgrade at the port. Has anyone ever had luck with that?

I was a CAT11 for the Dec. 14-18th Wonder last December. At port I upgraded to a CAT8 for a total of $252.

Whether you can buy an upgrade depends on room availablility. You say you cruise in three weeks (right in the middle of spring break season) which the ship will be fairly full.

The time you chose to cruise definitely effects your ability to get upgrades (and may have hurt your chances of a free upgrade) for capacity reasons. You may still get a free upgrade at check-in, but don't count on it.

To increase your chances of getting a check-in upgrade - you must arrive at the port early (even if you plan to buy an upgrade) and check-in early (they sell them first-come, first-serve). They can not sell you another room if it's not available. The upgrades are sold at the supervisors desk closest to the "mouse ears" where you enter the gangway.

The terminal opens at 10:30 A.M. - be there.

Thanks for the reply! If I can't buy an upgrade I know I'll have a great time anyway.

Keep your fingers crossed- I saw other posts that you can still get an upgrade after docs arrive.

Don't give up hope just yet. I checked my reservation on the DCL web site the night before we were due to sail and we were still in the original cabin I booked (Category 11). When we arrived at port we were pleasantly surpised with an upgrade to a Category 5. I was jumping up and down (much to DD's embarrassment) with excitement. Needless to say we were pretty happy.

Good luck !

Mary

We booked a category 10 cabin 10 months in advance, got our documents, then a week before sailing they called our travel agent and said we have been upgraded for free to category 6.
Seems to be no rhyme or reason to free upgrades, but we enjoyed the verandah.
