Have they discontinued the little "Portable Perks" booklets that let us know what discounts and such that are available? I checked into OKW today and did not receive one. Just want to know, before I go and ask.

Thanks in advance.

We did not receive one last month either, but yet the email I received about our upcoming trip reminds us to make sure we pick one up when we check in. Very confusing!

We asked at the check in desk when we noticed we did not have one in our packet. We were given one. We were told they are no longer in packets because so many guests are nonmembers ie. friends, renters, cash stays. We were told because they are not entitled to perks it is confusing to provide the info to them and raise expectations.

You are right. We checked in yesterday at SSR and there is no Perks book in our Welcome Packet. Boy there are really trying to cut any discounts offered to non-members. The room keys (KTTWC) does not list DVC Member on it anymore (noticed this last August) it. It says room only, or DVC room only. You need to carry your Membership ID card. All CMs have said that this is to give only the actual members the discount.

Awesome. Non-members shouldn't get any discounts. I wonder if the new "lifetime" cards Disney is about to employ will have all that info on them? Let's hope so.

Interesting.
Just checked our keys from Nov...........one says DVC Room Only and one says Room Only............wonder why the difference in that??

Now our keys from DLR in Dec. do say DVC Member on both of them

At BWV last month we were told the packets do not include the Member Perks any longer, and that we must ask for it each time since we are members. I can see that they are now enforcing the limits, which always have been for members only. :)

Ok that's all well and good. So why do members have to ask? Isn't it right in front of them when you check in whether or not you are a memeber? So that means when they see that you are in fact a member, they just put the perks in you folder. When they see you are not a member, i.e. renter or exchange or whatever, they leave it out. Simple right?

As far as Disney goes I guess not.

I'm surprised DVC doesn't reissue the member cards periodically. What's to stop a member who sold their membership from keeping using the card for discounts? I know it doesn't work for AP's because they key the member # in to verify but what about dining or merchandise?

Not is not that simple. Most members do not tell MS when they rent to a non-member. As for exchanges, some RCI exchanges may be DVC members using another timeshare they also own.

I still have our original light blue cards from 1993. Then we got the current dark blue ones a year or so later, then a year or so after that a "VALID" sticker to put on the back.

Back then I sort of assumed they'd be changing the cards every few years, like with a credit card, to prevent what you describe.

But, 20 years later and we're still using our "VALID" dark blue cards.

When we have exchanged in, we've had DVC status improperly coded on our cards at least one time in every three. We never use discounts we aren't entitled to, but I'm sure that some do.

Had to order a new card because mine cracked. They are no longer dark blue. They may now be a light blue but it looks almost like a light gray.

We checked into VWL on Sunday, Jan 6 and I requested a copy of Portable Perks and was given one. It wasn't in my package to start with.

perfect. why put an extra piece of paper in a packet if its not necessary? if its online and can be requested, thats exactly what i'd expect. when we checked into the resort in december, i wish they would have given us even less paperwork. maybe have it all online and give you the choice of a link online or paper packet.
