Isn't it always better to buy one way tickets rather than round trip tickets?

IDK about Southwest since they have been my last choice for a while (bad experiences and lack of non-stops to where I need to go).

At least on legacy airlines here's no financial advantage of doing it separately - usually just the opposite where it comes out a little less as round trip rather than 2 separate flights.

I don't know if SW will charge for last-minute checked bags.

Twice I've seen bags be charged for gate checking.

Once some people had bags that were obviously larger than carry-on size, but they clearly figured they would just do the complimentary gate checking. The gate agents visually sized the bags up and said "We need to check the size on those. Please put them in the sizer." When they didn't even come close to fitting, they were charged.

The other time there was a group that clearly had more roller bags than people - and all the people had backpacks and some had other bags as well. One of the gate agents went over to them to match up bag to person and the extra bags were charged.

But otherwise I've never seen an airline charge for gate-checked bags - especially when they're requiring it.

our trip lands right in the middle of starting assigned seats Jan 27 our trip is 1/23 1/30

SW fares dont even go out as far as the 30
as of now they go till the 26 I think

so basically leaving on the 23 well still be in the open seating
but coming home well be in the assigned seats time
like I said this is new but just wondering if anyone has any ideas how this will go
also since its assigned seating do you really have to do EB since you wont have to worry about postions

I'll be finding out, but you're coming home before I am, so let me know! I was scheduled to go January 27th, but I didn't want to encounter the madness (at least what I predict may be madness) of the first day of assigned seating, so I'm going a day early, then when they extend their schedule next week, I'll book my return flight, which will be in an assigned seat. For me, since I'm a wheelchair user, pre boarding, it will add an extra question to be seen. Let me know what you can, please.

just like other airlines. If they want to ensure they are together, they will have to pony up for the assigned seating.

Frontier doesn't make parents pony up. Passengers under 13 sit next to an adult on their reservation for free. They pay if they care where on the plane they sit.

Are you sure about this? Customers who have booked a "basic" fare will be automatically assigned a seat in the rear of the plane at check-in. I can see them keeping EB with auto seat assignment... I'd guess it'd give me a better chance at an aisle or window seat being automatically assigned if I checked in at T-minus 36 instead of T-minus 24. More money for Southwest if they leave it in place. I don't know... I think it all stinks and won't be flying Southwest after we use up our current reward miles.

Instead of buying "EBCI" those people will buy a seat assignment.

Not just a little less. Some Delta routes have the one way price as more than the roundtrip.
