No Buy April- come join us!

Ok. I'm not starting off month great. I couldn't resist a big Disney storybook for 9.99 (on sale from 24.99) at Borders. I did manage to put a couple other kids' books back after walking around with them for a while. I was trying to kill time while waiting for my husband to meet me for business dinner. Nice to see so many other newbies signed on! Good luck to us all!

I am in again.

Because of my newly increased income I have bumped up my budget a bit. At first I was going to try to stick to my previous austerity budgets and really ramp up my savings but my sister pointed out that I have not purchased any new clothes (including socks and underwear) in two years. She thought I might want to try and spend just a little on improving my wardrope which she describes as "early goodwill". But I am going to do just a little at a time not spend a big hunk just because I came into some money. That way I will still be putting money into restoring my savings.

So the budget is $700 (before I did between $475 and $550) and 10 no spend days.

Automobile $75
Eating Out/Entertainment $75
Giving $120
Groceries/Household Goods $250 / $242 left
Medical $15
Misc. $165
-----------------------------------------------------
4/1 Groceries $8

While I'm sure you look lovely in vintage goodwill it is a good idea to set some aside to buy new clothes now that you have it to spare in your budget. I actually like to have a "clothing" category with the money set aside in it so that I really buy clothes with the extra $$ instead of having it get lost on an extra dinner out or a few more groceries.

Enjoy your new income. Budgeting when you have more money seems less necessary to some people but it really isn't because without a budget nothing ever seems to end up in savings!

My favorites are Hip2save.com, savingaddiction.com (good one, since you are in Michigan), Myfrugaladventure.com, dealfindingchik, and mashupmom.com! I  couponing!

Thanks so much for your reply, I will check out the sites!:goodvibes

So much for my plan on not spending anything extra this month. My little girl had a growning spurt and her shoes for Easter do not fit so we are off to the shoe store. Oh well- at least its not a major thing.

Going to jump in again. We really need to tighten the belt:rolleyes1

My Aunt treated me to a movie (The Last Song :lovestruc ) and lunch out today so I spent nothing out of pocket.

Groceries/Household- $250/ $205.00 left
Gas/Car- $50
Entertainment/Eating Out- $75
Misc/Emergency- $75

Total- $450/ $405.00 Left

4/1- $45.00 Groceries
4.2- $0

I'm a newbie, but I have followed the no buy threads for a couple of months. We have a trip coming up in June so I would like to take the next couple of months to save up a little extra. We do our household budget weekly(fri-thurs), so I will plan weekly here(it will be easier on me). I would like to shoot for 10 no buy days for the month. My first week will be 4/2-4/8. Here is the plan for the week:
25 - gas
125 - groceries/household - ZERO
25 - dog
50 - misc - 17

4/2 - Sams (42.56), Target (12.83), Aldi (17.32), Wal-mart (81.13), DD (5.00)

I am going to try to stick to this this months. There are a few things that I know I will need, but I will work on a budget tonight. Today also starts Spring Break, so I will have to keep it in check.

4/2 about to head to the stores Still need Easter basket stuff and a walmart trip, so this will be a scary start.

This month I am going to try to use up what scrapbooking supplies I have in stock. I got a paper rack for Christmas in 2008 and haven't even made a dent in the paper I already have. Plus our local scrapbooking store is having a "garage sale" for supplies and I have already bagged and priced 80 some items to go and earn me some "cash" to spend just at the scrapbooking store.

April 1- School Fundaiser Night at Chuck E Cheese $19.06
New Moon DVD, socks for Easter Baskets and popcorn for resale at Walmart $20.36 ($5.40 for the popcorn.)
Total- $39.42 paid out
April 2- $0 ~~~I am counting this as a $0 spend day because all I spent on was taking my DD8 to the eye doctor ($60 copay) and because her eye is not getting better they had to patch it, so $12 for a patch. This to me is the same as a morgage, insurance and all that. It is a necessity. So while I am writing it down for my benefit to know where the money went, I am calling today a no spend day. Total- $72.96 It was a day off from school so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to do something with them, but we played outside (it was 86 today) and made peanut butter playdough (like at Coral Reef.)

Total No Buy Days--- 1

Total Spent- $112.38 (minus $72.96 medical) = $39.42

NOT off to a good start here :(

4/1 - $17.55 on meds for dog (hopefully a 1 time purchase)

4/2 – $65 - $38 at Target (hair dryer (my blew up yesterday), Drano ($3.69), then I hit the Easter aisle which I did not need to do since my shopping for that was done last weekend. THIS IS MY PROBLEM AND WHY I JOINED THIS THREAD!!!!!); $17 lunch out with DH; and
$10 Pup-n-Sudz to give the dog a bath

So the budget is $700 and 10 no spend days.

Automobile $75
Eating Out/Entertainment $75 / $57 left
Giving $120
Groceries/Household Goods $250 / $242 left
Medical $15
Misc. $165
-----------------------------------------------------
4/1 Groceries $8
4/2 Eating out $19

I really want to join this thread and this month is not off to a good start. My mom just passed away and I have bought convenience foods everyday for the kiddos as I don't have energy.

I am making a goal, that I know I can achieve, of 10 no buy days. I know it isn't much, but I need to start small so I can actually achieve it.

4/1 - Bought food for the kids
4/2 - Bought food for the kids
