Nikon D80

Lookin' good:thumbsup2
I got a D80 a few months ago after giving DD my D50. Its off to Nikon right now. Can't wait to get it back- hopefully before DD and the D50 go back to college in 2 weeks!

Very nice! I just know you're going to enjoy it, and we'll enjoy seeing your pictures.

Nice first shots, Dave - time to plan a trip to WDW to REALLY break the new gear in. How is your NAS doing today, btw?

That's going to have to wait. :sad2: Not sure when will be able to make it back. Right now I am looking at 2010 perhaps for our 25th anniversary.

Still learning this new camera but here is few I took this past week.

Great photos. Love the mockey snow globe. My D80 came on Thursday. I just love it!

Hi there!! I'm still new to my D80 (took a few classes though). This afternoon I want to shoot the kids at the bowling alley. Last time I did, the pictures were very orange and unnatural - the light in there just stinks.

I'm thinking I should set my ISO to like 800 or 1000. Should I also overexpose a bit? Sorry, I really new to the settings (white balance still puzzles me :goodvibes ).

I'd appreciate any help! I just want to take a few photos for their scrapbooks.

Thanks so much - you guys are always so helpful!

If people are orange than that has to do with white balance. Try when you get there to set a custom white balance that is more accurate(I assume the D80 can do this). Or, if none of the white balance presets look good, shoot in RAW format and fix it later.

Thanks! I will and can adjust the white balance on the D80 - just have to remember how to do it! :lmao: Back to the manual I go.

Take a few shots when you first get to the bowling alley to see what WB setting gets the best results. Even try the daylight setting (sometimes that will work because there are so many different types of light bulbs these days). If none of the settings you try works then do a preset WB. You can set it with just a sheet of plain white paper not a gray card. I just learned this this week in a course I am taking for the D300. Here are the steps we were taught to set your WB for mixed or difficult lighting.

1.Select the PRE white balance setting.

2.Use a bright white (not glossy) sheet of paper. Not a gray card. Gray cards are for getting a good exposure. This is to get an accurate white balance. Place the white sheet of paper over your subject in the same light as the subject will be photographed.

3.Fill the metering area with the white paper. Don’t worry about focusing as the white color is all that’s important. Auto focus won’t work because it won’t know where to focus on a clear white sheet of paper.

4.Hold down the WB balance button on the release mode dial located on the top left area of the camera until PRE begins to flash on the top control panel, then point the camera to fill the metering area with all white.

5.Press the shutter release to set your white balance. If the you get a "Good" message, recompose and take your picture. The color should be accurate, even in mixed lighting. If you get a "no Gd" message, the target is too dark or too bright and you’ll need to make adjustments, like diffusing the light or moving the subject to a brighter area.

The procedure for the D80 should be similar to the above steps. I have a D300 and D40 and the steps are the same except for step number 4 in getting to the menu area that allows you preset a WB setting.

hope this helps a little
Karyl

Thanks spinetnglr. I did learn this in my last lesson but totally forgot the steps with the paper, etc. So much to remember! LOL - best I start using the info so it sticks in my brain.

Enjoy your classes!!
