I find it odd that after The Princess And The Frog Disney gave up on hand-drawn animation and starting with Tangled decided to focus on computer-animated movies and now it seems like all that Disney wants to focus on are computer-animated movies and live-action remakes of Disney classics and I seriously think that the reason why Disney gave up making hand-drawn animated movies was because they learned that computer-animated movies are cheaper to make than hand-drawn animated movies. I think it's about time that Disney returned to hand-drawn animated movies because that's what they were famous for in the first place. Because the movies would be bigger hits for Disney

I doubt they will ever got back to truly hand-drawn, but I could see them making something with the hand-drawn aesthetic, even if the heavy lifting is done by computers. Wish was kind of going in that direction. The thing is, hand-drawn animation is very expensive, and the use of computer modeling makes changes easier. There is little incentive to go back.

In my eyes Disney really should go back to it's hand-drawn animation roots because that's what made their movies such big hits. Because as we saw with The Princess And The Frog Disney really had plans to release more hand-drawn animated movies. But when Tangled came out I was shocked that it was computer animated and I had thought all along that would be hand-drawn. But I mainly think Disney is focusing on computer animated movies because they seem to be marketable and why they obsessed with live-action classic movies is so the new generation can enjoy them time and again

I think Disney needs a hand-drawn animated film to recover itself from it's movie flops. I mean when you look at Wish Strange World and Moana 2 which were computer animated films they knew that computer animated films did well in theaters for other companies they wanted to copy that trend. But the only films that have done well so far were Frozen and Encanto but after Encanto that's when Disney went downhill. But in my eyes a return to hand-drawn animation with a new movie could recover Disney from it's flops of movies. And they should do an animated version of The Princess And The Pea The Elves And The Shoemaker or The Emperor's New Clothes and if those movies were hand-drawn animation Disney would have hit movies again if those movies ever were created

I think it's not impossible that they would make a hand-drawn animated movie again someday for artistic reasons, especially if that made the movie more marketable due to its unique aesthetic. But I think in general, computer-animated movies are here to stay because they're considered more of a spectacle, and in the movies you always have to be doing something cool that no one's seen before.

I would argue that their movies that have flopped did not do so because of the animation style, but because of the writing. I wouldn't call Moana 2 a flop--as I understand it's been quite profitable--but again, if you had to say what that movie's shortcomings are, you certainly wouldn't say the animation. It's the pacing, etc.

I would love to see it, but I'd be surprised if it happens. Sadly, I imagine that art form is slowing be lost to time. I'd be curious, but I also wonder if it would be more expensive to produce due to the many hours it would take the animators to draw the scenes?

Of course "never" is a long, long time, but this comes as close as it gets. It is simply too labor intensive a process to hand-draw animation any more. It takes armies of inkers, inbetweeners, and others to produce even a minute of film.

It was prohibitively expensive in the early 90s, and even more so now. I doubt you could find enough people who are proficient, even if you had unlimited money.

And DIS doesn't have unlimited money. They're already starving the parks of maintenance and operating personnel as it is.

Yes, exactly. They might make soemthing in a hand-drawn style, but it would all be done digitally.
