We skipped all the other tests this time around and went straight to an amnio. I am 35 and this is my 3rd so I just wanted ALL the details right up front from one visit.
The screenings made me crazy...our first tested w/ a VERY high possibilty of Downs ..and we had to wait WEEKS to see the specialist; it was so stressful. I swore I would not do that again. (she is perfectly healthy) Our second we only tested for Sp. Bif. b/c they would have done something different w/ delivery I guess.
This time, new town, they test me for carrying cystic fibrosis and I was POSITIVE. It is only a problem if DH tested positive too, but he was traveling w/ the army and we couldn't get test results in a timely fashion so the amnio was the way to go for me!
There is only ONE physician, the high risk doc, at our hospital who does amnios, all other OB's in the health system refer to him so he is really experienced and good. It was quick and not painful and I was perfectly normal to go about my day, which surprised me.
I buy my prenatals at the health food store ... I think they are called Ultra Prenatals...and I take two right before bed. Every other kind...RX or over the counter made me sick. I cannot take regular vitamins either. These are GREAT; better be considering I am taking them from trying to conceive thru a year of nursing!!! I order three bottles at a time I get 10% off...ask your store for a discount, you certainly will be taking them long enough that they wont go to waste, especially if you nurse!
Hope you are all having a wonderful day!! I am in a turkey coma - we had our MOMS cooking club today and our theme was Thanksgiving we did the WHOLE works. I think this is my favorite theme of the year. YUM!
