Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

I don't know any good wives tales that I can think of. I'm sure that I'll hear plenty when I get around to telling everyone. I have to say, that I am finding all of these amusing though.

ETA: I believe I'm due July 17th, by the way. I noticed the question marks by my name. I won't know for sure for a couple weeks yet. Why does my OB make me wait so long? It's so hard to wait!

IF that worked, it wouldn't matter. Once that sperm hits the egg it's already determined whether it's boy/girl... visible organs or not. :goodvibes

Well, I guess you'll just have to call me a skeptic. Also, I assumed the needle test "worked" by detecting the different horomones, which are not present at conception but start to develop after the first few weeks. Oh, look at me, trying to rationalize an old wives' tale. :lmao:

The Old Wives Tale that I have heard is that if the line on your belly (linea nigra) goes past your naval, its a boy...if it stops at the naval, its a girl.

Not really sure of the accuracy.

Did anyone have a "First Trimester Screen"??

We have to decide soon. I can't figure out how to tell how much insurance will cover (since they'd be sending me from where I live in WV down to Charleston, our capital.)

No one in my family has every had any problems... but I just keep thinking about the early ultrasound she said they'd do... and that makes me want to go and see!

So has anyone done this?

We skipped all the other tests this time around and went straight to an amnio. I am 35 and this is my 3rd so I just wanted ALL the details right up front from one visit.
The screenings made me crazy...our first tested w/ a VERY high possibilty of Downs ..and we had to wait WEEKS to see the specialist; it was so stressful. I swore I would not do that again. (she is perfectly healthy) Our second we only tested for Sp. Bif. b/c they would have done something different w/ delivery I guess.
This time, new town, they test me for carrying cystic fibrosis and I was POSITIVE. It is only a problem if DH tested positive too, but he was traveling w/ the army and we couldn't get test results in a timely fashion so the amnio was the way to go for me!
There is only ONE physician, the high risk doc, at our hospital who does amnios, all other OB's in the health system refer to him so he is really experienced and good. It was quick and not painful and I was perfectly normal to go about my day, which surprised me.

I buy my prenatals at the health food store ... I think they are called Ultra Prenatals...and I take two right before bed. Every other kind...RX or over the counter made me sick. I cannot take regular vitamins either. These are GREAT; better be considering I am taking them from trying to conceive thru a year of nursing!!! I order three bottles at a time I get 10% off...ask your store for a discount, you certainly will be taking them long enough that they wont go to waste, especially if you nurse!

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!! I am in a turkey coma - we had our MOMS cooking club today and our theme was Thanksgiving we did the WHOLE works. I think this is my favorite theme of the year. YUM!

Yes, I did but remember, I am older, have a thyroid problem and have had a couple miscarriages.

I am debating this too because of my age. I have to call my insurance company and see what is coveraged.

Today, I had my first office visit at 8 weeks. It was basically a nurse appointment to update paperwork. Then I had my initial blood work drawn. My first Dr. appointment is Dec 10, nurse thought I should hear the heartbeat at that time, and I will also have diabetes screening done. I can't wait.

Someone directed me over here.

Hello, I'm Sarah and I'm pregnant! Here's what I posted on my thread:

It's way too early for me to be telling anyone, but I can't stop myself!

DH and I have been trying since June. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) in September, so we thought it was going to take a while and some drugs to get pregnant. So we decided to stop trying and I planned to lose some weight (I lost 10 pounds). My dr put me on some meds to combat my insulin resistance and also help me get pregnant.

So today I did the test, and it had a bright pink +! I'm only 4 weeks along, which I know is way too early, especially since PCOS causes higher miscarriage rates, but even if that does happen, just being able to conceive is a huge deal.

I've already told my mom and dad and DH and most of the ladies I work with. I just can't believe it.

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hi Everyone....

Can I join your group... I am 30 weeks along today and am just finding this board.. I can usually be found over on the podcast board. My DH and I are expecting a princess the end of january and so far I cannot complain.. everything has been very smooth.

As for the person who asked about the first trimester screen we did it and got the results (100% normal) while we were enjoying lunch at the POR food court.

Can't wait to get to know you all...even if it is just for a few weeks!!

Has anyone had the testing done and then regret it? I ask because I know it wouldn't change anything in my mind, but if anything came up, I would constantly worry about it. I run a day hab program for adults with developmental disabilities, so I have seen it all and would be well prepared for what is to come. I just tend to worry a lot about things that may potential turn out to be no concern at all.:confused3

I had my 1st appt today. It went well, got an u/s, saw heartbeat. :)

I am seeing a perinatal (?) specialist and doing the genetics screening in 2 weeks. I am "advanced maternal age" and my son has spina bifida occulta, which is no big deal, but I guess it puts me at a higher risk to have another child w/spina bifida.

I skipped on the amino for now.

I'm testing just for "peace of mind" I guess? To give myself more time to prepare, etc.

Rparmfamily- congrats on seeing that little beautiful heartbeat!

I have to decide by 12/10/08 if we are going to have first trimester testing done. DH & I tend to stress out easily and I am so afraid of potential false positives causing unneeded stress. I have had a friend recently go through this so it has me thinking. My big reason for considering it is my advanced maternal age, no family history.

Morning everyone!

Thanks for all the welcomes and for adding me to the list!

I'm still trying to get an appointment with my doctor. We played phone tag yesterday and today I managed to get through only to be told their computers are down!

I can't wait to talk to my dr. She had warned me to use protection since I wanted to wait and lose more weight. I know she's going to laugh at me. I'm not grossly overweight or anything, I just wanted to be at my healthiest.

Is it weird to be this early and already have morning sickness? Smells were killer for me this morning too. I have a very good chance of having twins, so maybe that could contribute to it? I know that a lot of women with twins have more problems with morning sickness...

I'll stop rambling now! :teeth:

Morning sickness strikes that soon, yes. I actually was feeling a little queasy a couple of days before I took the pregnancy test. :rotfl:
