New Resort Room Type Names

I think you’re right. I cannot understand the business model behind less stratifying of the room types. Surely you could get more $$$ by letting guests pay for their specific room type preference. Unless they simply can’t sell the “no view” at all (which I don’t think is the case).
I don't think that's the case either. I often notice that standard view is gone while other views remain, especially where the price difference is large.

So is this a price increase on standard rooms or a price decrease on the other “resort” rooms? It will be interesting to see the price data…
I'm going to guess almost certainly an increase on the standard views. Count me with those who are not fans. The reason I booked nothing but standard views this year is last year I paid for Water View at BC and wound up with a first floor room in front of the quiet pool. Yeah, no thanks. We ended up keeping our curtains drawn pretty much the whole time and it felt like a rip off. So I decided no more paying extra for views, since it seems to be kind of a poop shoot anyway. But now Disney has found a way to make me pay extra regardless. The mouse always wins.

I would have said that a couple months ago. But business is now looking so bad they had to admit on their earnings call bookings were weaker than last year (blamed on the 100th not being as popular as the 50th- lol, sure) so I’m not sold on Disney being able to get by with a price increase on the cheapest rooms at the deluxes. The data will tell the tale!

Disney used to have similar room categories. Maybe 20 years ago Disney upgraded their computer system, adding the ability to add more room categories. I think this was the same uograde which allowed charging different nightly rates during a guests stay.

It's not as bad as posters fear.

We are planning to book at Boardwalk for 2024 so following this thread. I looked at the categories for Boardwalk today and they have standard, resort and water. But standard and resort have the same view description but different prices. I would assume this is a mistake?

Shoddy IT roll out. Standard room category is disappearing as they roll parking lot views in resort view.

Price increase wins @Jfsag123 Poor hotel CMs. “Resort view” parking lot winners not gonna be thrilled…

They are fine selling those rooms, people have been paying top dollar to stay Standard at Poly with the DVC tower construction going on despite half the longhouses having Dirt Pit View at the moment. I remember how Samoa used to be Standard at Poly and so many people were requesting it because of the fantastic location that they created Pool/Marina view a few years ago just so they could charge people extra for it.

We have a garden view booked at BWI and didn’t get the email yet. I’m not seeing the room category noted in MDE - maybe I’m looking in the wrong place. I clicked view room details.

Edit: I see it now! I don’t know how I missed it 🤦🏻‍♀️
We are booked Garden/Woods view at YC and Pool/Marina view at Poly for a split stay in a couple of weeks and didn't get an email about it. I just assumed it was because we're booked through a TA.

It just doesn’t seem sensible for Disney to move backwards on booking more specific views. Given their Leaky IT, why make this change unless they hope to charge more for the no views that are being combined with better views.

I honestly think it depends on the resort. Poly is Poly and is booked solid all the time anyway regardless, but maybe they're struggling selling standard inventory at other resorts. BC/YC really sticks out to me because of just how much of a roulette standard can be. Whereas at GF or non-construction era Poly for example there really is no bad standard view. Given their IT issues it may be easier to make the change across the board rather than just target the problem resorts. I think it's a net loss for deluxe guests.

I do think some kind of simplification was needed at some resorts. GF was ridiculous with its 9000 categories and tbh I think the questions that pop up the most on the GF thread here are about the differences. But this is throwing the baby out with the bathwater imo. Even when we're talking non-standard, people paying extra to book lagoon/lake views and ending up with pool views instead (something very divisive from the comments in this thread) will be upset. I think if they see significant impact to guest satisfaction they'll walk it back or at least make adjustments to it.

Not surprised the parking lots are now "resort views." But man the "water view" is a disgrace.

It's a really big change for BC/YC. The quiet pool is not Crescent Lake. Crescent Lake (and BW view) seem to be where you'd want to be very specific.

If we were to book water view now at Boardwalk (Inn side), that wouldn't guarantee a Boardwalk view then (of Crescent Lake?) It could be a pool?

I don't even see how they can separate out Crescent Lake against at pool view. It's not like they can convert them to club or something. Those rooms are some of the most desirable and expensive in Disney. It makes no sense to have angry pool guests who thought they booked Crescent Lake, or to make the lake a random upgrade from whoever booked pool view. Lagoon view will be back.

Water view at Boardwalk is just Crescent Lake or Boardwalk view, which is good. Beach Club water view always included the quiet pool.

Interesting they are now using the term "beverage cooler" instead of refrigerator. This is the first time I've noticed that. May not be new, but new to me.

Maybe they’ve put those glass door “Bev coolers“ in rooms. They’re awful and aside from less storage they don’t get as cold. I’ve had milk & yogurt go bad in them.

Cost less to run I would think. Less chance of you keeping leftovers in it and the need to buy more food from Disney.
