New Resort Room Type Names

I don’t like this at all. There’s a big difference between a calm lake and a noisy pool, and a parking lot or relaxing garden. I don’t understand why they would do this? People are obviously willing to pay more or less to get what they want and they’re taking away choices. They’re going to end up with a lot more requests and unhappy customers.

Too many choices make people unhappy -- and can lead to frustration and lost sales.

If you are a guest know exactly what you want -- like many of the guests on this forum -- the more specific the better, but it is much faster and more efficient to have fewer choices.

These things are usually cyclical.

You start with a couple of room categories, then get bombarded with room requests and people who want "that special, certain view" so you start creating more options until it all becomes too much to deal with.

So you simplify. Then the process starts anew.

I suppose they could have gone the other way, with every room having demand pricing sort of like cruise ships.
A noisy room overlooking a parking lot when you’re paying the same price as someone with a beautiful, quiet garden view will make people unhappy. Same with pool v. lake. Sounds like some stupid theory that was misapplied in this case.

A standard room at POP could be lake view or parking lot view.

There is a difference between a view of the main (busy and loud) main pool and a generally empty quiet pool.

Posters are over thinking this. The best room in a bad category is going to better then the worst room in a better category. It's always been that way

A thought. After 9-11 people were afraid to travel. Discounts weren't filling the resorts. Sections of resorts and even entire resorts were moth balled.
Fewer room categories will make it easier logistically if Disney reduces capacity.

Fewer room choices makes it easier for Disney to assign rooms. And the view is not important for some people, and that is great for them. But some people spend time in their room and enjoy it. I choose my resort and room category carefully. I open my curtains and spend time on my balcony. I enjoy nature, trees, landscaping and wildlife. I do not care for pools. If I pay for a water view i want to see the lake or river, not the pool and it's occupants, even the "quiet" one. This change is disappointing to me.

We are loyal to YC Garden View rooms. We’ve stayed there the last three trips and will be booking soon for late November. I have no problem paying YC prices because I know what I’m going to get. However, it’s a $1,500 difference between FQ and YC. I don’t think I’m willing to gamble that amount of money and end up with a YC rooftop view. Especially since the deluxe perk of extra evening hours isn’t necessary for us anymore. This change will most likely bump our family to moderate stays.

Or they could actually get with the times and let people select their own rooms on check in day using an app, like Hilton does.

I am waiting to see how all this shakes out with new reservations over the next year. We won't be back until Jan 2025 but we are considering BC/YC to be closer to Epcot for FotArts access. I won't be willing to pay those prices for a rooftop or parking lot view and I don't want to pay an upcharge for water view if that includes a pool. I would rather save the money and stay at POFQ or possibly CBR.

Maybe this is Disneys response to the endless “specific” room requests they get daily. might make things easier for room assigners to go through all those requests.

That was my first thought too. But then I thought, no. This might just increase the specific room requests. I almost never make room requests. But if my YC water view could be quiet pool or lake view, you can be sure I’ll be making the request with lake view rooms. I can’t imagine anyone not making a request for better resort view room if the alternative is roof or dumpster views.

Gonna be worse as far as my bookings go, I’ve never made view requests for standard rooms because the view will always suck but I sure will now lol.

This change benefits Disney in a couple of ways:

1.) It reduces orphaned room/nights within categories and makes room assignment *technically* easier. (Not considering all the complaints, specific room requests, and room change requests this change will generate)

2.) It allows Disney to eliminate some lower priced tiers and roll them in with their higher priced counterparts (standard to “resort” and pool to “water”), and charge them all at the higher price.

This change benefits guests in ZERO ways. No more less expensive standard views. Paying water view prices to be next to a noisy high-traffic pool? No thanks! I can foresee myself doing more and more DVC point rentals in the future. Or Swan/Dolphin. At least they are honest about their “no view” rooms and charge less for them.

So wait, how will this work if you paid the upcharge for a garden view and now they've lumped Standard view rooms into that category? Will there be a refund if you are placed into a previously designated standard view room.

I have a garden/woods view BC room booked for July. I paid to upgrade from a standard. I will be really upset if I'm given a roof view room.
If you are, you should demand to be assigned a Garden View room (that is, a room that was classified as Garden View at the time you booked), or else to be refunded the difference in nightly cost between the Standard and Garden View rooms (again, as it was at the time you booked).

Disney can't sell you one view category and assign you another without compensation. That's fraud.

We'll be in the same situation (although at the Yacht Club) in August. To my great dismay, I've called Disney three different times about this, and gotten three different answers. One CM told me that all the Garden View reservations had already been converted to Resort View on their end of the system, and that because room assigners have no idea when or what you originally booked, they'll put you in anything now considered Resort View, including a number of rooms that used to be considered Standard View (and by the same token, they won't consider putting you in any of the former-Garden-View rooms - that is, ones facing the resort's "quiet pool," that have now been converted to Water View. At YC, that was almost HALF of the Garden View inventory!). The second CM I spoke with said the exact opposite -- that rooms will be assigned based on the inventory and room type that you originally booked, as it was when you booked it, so the only rooms we could get would be those that were Garden View prior to the change in names. The third CM I talked to put me on hold to consult with "higher-ups in Guest Services," and told me that even Guest Services has no idea exactly what the e-mail to guests meant when it said we'd be in the "same category" we booked, and had not figured out the logistics of how that promise might be fulfilled, and that I should "call back in June or July" when there might be some concrete answers. (!??!)

So I'm being cautious. I took screen shots of maps of all the YC rooms with their current (Standard/Garden/Water) designations, so that when we get assigned a room, we'll know what we're actually getting before we even look out the window, and can approach the front desk to politely request a change, or a credit, if we're given a room that's a downgrade from Garden View, as that category was defined at the time of booking.

Wow so frustrating 3 different answers! I’m sure you will get what you booked, it’s the people that don’t know what the actual room views for each category that will get ripped off! I feel like I know more than the CM’s especially when it comes to YC/BC!

Thanks so much for the tip of taking screenshots. We will be there at the end of October. We have stayed at the Yacht many times so I know it like the back of my hand. But when I booked this it still was a garden view and I requested certain areas. So I did take a screenshot of the areas I requested. Even though it’s not a guarantee hopefully I will still get what I asked for. And you are definitely right it is considered fraud if they give you a room of a rooftop view versus a Gardenview because that’s not what I signed up for or what I paid for. We will be checking in early that day transferring over from the Contemporary even though our room won’t be ready hopefully I can request and get what I wanted… Thanks again.

I’m in the UK and got an email about the changes, saying “you will still receive the exact room type you originally booked” - so I’m hopeful I’ll still get the Garden/Woods view at YC!

Just to clarify for those talking about Pop, these room category changes are only applicable to Deluxe Resorts at this time. Categories at Values and Mods remain unchanged.

This makes using the Touring Plans room view feature much more difficult, especially for WL.
