New Resort Room Type Names

I know reasonable minds may differ but I don't really care for a pool view (too noisy!) However, I love a water view. To me they're not really comparable or worth the same amount of $$$ and lumping them together is a big UGH. You cannot see the Electrical Water Pageant from a pool, for one!

I stayed at Pop recently and put in a room request for one overlooking Hourglass Lake. We got "upgraded" to a pool view and the room assigner was SO CONFUSED as to why I was asking for a "downgrade" when the front desk called to see if we could switch rooms.
Yes, we really dislike pool views. Not so much the view but the noise, the games, the music. We once had a savanna view that was right next to the pool at the very outer corner of a savanna. Hated hated hated it. I had a better view of the pool bathroom than the zebras.

At BLT we once had a lake view that was on the inside of the C. If you leaned over and peak through the trees , just past the pool, you saw the lake. Wonder if the water from the pool was the lake view.

One of the best rooms I have had at YC was a standard view. It was actually a parking lot view I guess but it was looking out over the porte cochere and the balcony was the entire front side of the building.

On another forum, they are posting that "pool view" rooms at AKL will now be called "water view". AKL rooms with a king bed will now be a separate booking category and no longer just a request. These are the only two changes being reporting currently.
I booked AKL specified as a King Savanna view a few weeks ago. So, before this, a king couldn’t be specifically selected? My first time booking AKL.

I believe at most deluxe resorts, king rooms were a request but they were bookable categories in value and moderates? I know they were bookable in the moderates.

Sometime early this year Yacht & Beach started listing king rooms as bookable categories. But you couldn’t actually book them, they showed as unavailable if you clicked on it. So maybe another category coming?

That seems the only improvement in these category revisions. The lumping together of good views and no views seem preposterous.

I agree. YC had a few standard view rooms that actually lad a dumpster directly below them. Now that’s gonna be considered a resort view & might be the same category as the gardens by the gazebo? Ridiculous.

All this will accomplish is to have quite a few angry people who get the bad views complaining to the CMs about getting the bad views. also, people will be more reluctant to pay these high prices if they can’t specify their view.

So wait, how will this work if you paid the upcharge for a garden view and now they've lumped Standard view rooms into that category? Will there be a refund if you are placed into a previously designated standard view room.

I have a garden/woods view BC room booked for July. I paid to upgrade from a standard. I will be really upset if I'm given a roof view room.

Did you read the text of the email message from Disney that was posted earlier in the thread?

If you have already book a category, Disney states you will still receive the exact room type you originally booked. There is no additional action required prior to your arrival.

I laugh at the AKL Pool View to Water View ... guess that includes water in gutters. We once paid the extra for Pool View over Standard and looked at the roofs of the restaurant, gutters etc. It was a rip off. I was facing the pool courtyard but with no view of the pool. I was told that the XXX view doesn't actually mean view. It just means what direction you are facing.

SO .... resort view can pretty much apply to any room at all so guest beware. Honestly it is just a way to avoid issues of expectation (you know a view of a pool with pool view) and to charge more for the worst views.

Oh yes, 800 dollars a night for the potential (however small) of a parking lot view 😬

Parking lot view isn't what you have to worry about at BC/YC standard, it's Roof Gravel View.

I am very curious now about how they would categorize the corner king Standard room I had at BC back in 2019 though. That one had Roof Gravel View out one window but the other looked out on SAB and the Boardwalk. Absolutely wild if they tried to classify that as Water View imo.

tbh just means this will probably be my last stay at either barring further crazy discounts, it'll be Swan/Dolphin for me from now on.

I booked AKL specifically King back in February. Not a request, reservation actually says king and I just double-checked the e-mail confirmation and it was indeed February that I booked.

I had that room for Christmas once. The balcony is amazing!

I look at this as a way to increase rates without increasing rates. They will get more money for the former standard and pool view rooms by combining them with the higher priced garden and water view rooms. There is no way they are reducing the rates on the higher priced rooms.

Count me in with the unhappy - this isn't a change that benefits guests, it's one that benefits Disney. Gives them more inventory in the same "category" to move people around without having to do anything about complaints or issue refunds. And likely bump all the rates at least slightly. Like others, I actually try to avoid pool views and, because I hate parking lot noise and tend to bring my dogs, I would pay the slight extra for a "woods view" at POFQ to try and get areas with less noise outside and far less foot traffic by the windows. I don't want those choices relegated to the "it's only a request" abyss - I know others have luck with getting their request granted but in my experience I never seem to win that particular lottery.

At YC the farthest rooms in the front of the hotel have a view of a dumpster. Not off in the distance, but right next to the hotel. And now that’s gonna be considered “resort view”. :sad2:

We have a garden view booked at BWI and didn’t get the email yet. I’m not seeing the room category noted in MDE - maybe I’m looking in the wrong place. I clicked view room details.

Edit: I see it now! I don’t know how I missed it 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm quite unhappy about this. Garden views are my favorite at some resorts while standards can be awful. I always pay for the category I want and I never make requests. This is going to increase the number of guests making really specific room location requests, I would think. I don't really understand why they would do this when so many of us are willing to pay more for a specific view, especially at deluxes. I personally will change where I stay if they're going to make it ambiguous. I mean, there's an entire side of the building at the Contemporary where I can sit on the balcony and stare at a beautiful lake. Why would I chance ending up with a roof view at Yacht or Beach.

Thinking about it more, will this mean they jack up things like Boardwalk View and Theme Park View even more (the difference is already huge) because now taking that top tier is the only guarantee of a special view?

I think you’re right. I cannot understand the business model behind less stratifying of the room types. Surely you could get more $$$ by letting guests pay for their specific room type preference. Unless they simply can’t sell the “no view” at all (which I don’t think is the case).
