New Resort Room Type Names

Appears that the room categories for the Beach Club were changed today: Standard View, Resort View, and Water View. Standard View is described as "Views of Disney's Beach Club Resort Rooftop or Parking Area". Resort View is described as "Views of Disney's Beach Club Resort Gardens, Rooftop or Parking Area". So not much difference between the descriptions with the exception of the addition of "Garden".

Does the resort view cost more?

For dates in late October, appears to be a $25 a night difference.

We are booked Garden/Woods view at YC and Pool/Marina view at Poly for a split stay in a couple of weeks and didn't get an email about it. I just assumed it was because we're booked through a TA.

I think you are correct. We are also booked through a TA and staying in a garden/woods view room at the YC next month and I didn’t receive an email either.

Yes since you both are using a TA for your reservation(s), all communications are between your TA and WDW.

This stinks and I think will lead to more complaints. A lake view at Pop is awesome, but a pool view stinks, IMO. A pool vs a natural body of water are completely different experiences.
Hour glass lake is man made, not a natural body of water.

I don't remember, was lake view a room category at POP?

I think the point being made is that lake view = peaceful, but pool view = noisy

No. Lake view rooms at Pop are/were standard rooms.
So a lake view room was a request not a bookable room category.
Under the new room classifications lske view is a request not a guarantee.

What's the issue?

Not sure exactly how they are changing room categories at Pop, but If they are lumping pool view and lake view together into water view, there is a chance people might get pool view, which is something many people absolutely do not want.

I agree that people who book a water view should not be given a pool view instead, especially when it costs a whole lot more money than a pool view would have been. Resorts that have a pool view category, like POR, do not charge as much for the pool view as they do for a nicer category, like river view or preferred.

THIS^. Some resorts have pool views and lake/river views. Both are bodies of water - hence "water view." I despise pool view - so now I only if I *risk* a pool view (yuck) do I have any chance of getting a lake/river view (yippee). That's a bummer. I hope Disney figures out many folks don't want those lumped together.

Too many choices make people unhappy -- and can lead to frustration and lost sales.

If you are a guest know exactly what you want -- like many of the guests on this forum -- the more specific the better, but it is much faster and more efficient to have fewer choices.

These things are usually cyclical.

You start with a couple of room categories, then get bombarded with room requests and people who want "that special, certain view" so you start creating more options until it all becomes too much to deal with.

So you simplify. Then the process starts anew.

I suppose they could have gone the other way, with every room having demand pricing sort of like cruise ships.

I wouldn't mind that one bit :)
I want what I want!

Generally everyone on a cruise shares the same checkin and check out day.

Guests would not pay the premium price necessary to leave a room empty one or more night to ensure availability

I don't like it at all. This is a sneaky way to raise rates on rooms without telling the public. I HATE POOL VIEW. HATE IT! Water view means lakes and rivers, pool view means pool view. I don't like Disney taking away my option to choose NOT to look at blacktop, dumpsters, or swimming pools. Especially since I am already paying a ridiculous amount of money to stay tnere. I turned down an "upgrade" the last time I stayed at the lodge because it was pool view, which came with blaring music and loud children, most of the day. I enjoy quiet time on my balcony with a book during my afternoon break. I think this change is going to bite Disney in the rear. More unhappy guest experiences to come.
