New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

Shame that Star Wars only ever made it to one very poorly themed bar. Surprised they never tried to bring a Cantina style bar to one of the other Wish class ships. Whilst a little Marvel is ok, this seems to be a bit of overkill, although the approach may be Wish for the princess fans, Treasure for the parks fans and Destiny for the Marvel fans so they have something that appeals to most.

I think they're eventually going to announce another ship (or two) that has an extensive Star Wars focus. Basically a lift and shift of the Galactic Starcruiser on to a cruise ship. I could even see them making an expansion to Lighthouse Point that's just a mini Star Wars-themed beach day, exclusively available for passengers on the Star Wars ship(s).

Marvel they're treating as equivalent to Mickey Mouse, but Star Wars gets different treatment.

It really feels like the Destiny was made to be a response the criticism that the Wish was "too princess focused" and would mainly appeal to girls. Since the SW Rey trilogy appears to not have done as well as Disney had hoped (nor had the focus from younger fans), they went with Marvel instead.

No. After the Starcruiser fiasco they will not do a ship that is 100% Star Wars. They might bring back SW Day at Sea but that is as far as it will go.

There are tons of SW fans (my house is full of them, our dog is named Leia) but Disney is never going to count on only Star Wars fans to keep a project (be that hotel experience or cruise ship) going long term again.

Considering LP doesn't even have space for teens, or a sports area like In Da Shade I cannot see them ever doing a SW beach day. DCL isn't putting in that amount of effort. Even SWDAS didn't carry over to Castaway.

I agree with @dreamer17555 as well @JOY K, and @Pens Fan. I get that Marvel is huge, I understand it's a draw and that it makes a gazillion dollars for the company. But with all the classic iconic Disney heroes and villains that exist, they're going with Marvel?! It just makes me so disappointed. Everything I was hearing made me excited for this ship until this announcement.

Also, even with Animator's Palate having a show, it is still possible to have a normal dinner regular conversation with your travel party/companions. I have never been to the one of the Marvel dinners so I do not now how it compares.

Very disappointing. It feels like Disney learned nothing from the Starcruiser, and has taken zero criticism of the faults of the Wish class seriously. There was time to update this ship, and instead they did a cut and paste with more polarizing IP. The smart move would have been to end this class at 2 ships and take time to figure out something better.

I don't think the biggest problem with Starcruiser was the IP, I think it was how it was executed, among many other issues.

And the price!

It should have been way more interactive (eg high end escape room/vr kind of stuff with actual props that do something.

I still feel like they missed a trip teeming some inside staterooms in a galactic star cruiser style - which look out onto a star field.

You are never going to fill an entire cruise ship for its life being just themed to star wars, but a selection of rooms would work.

Galactic Starcruiser's problem was that it wasn't actually a cruise. A 3- or 4-night cruise on a Star Wars-themed Wish-class ship would be popular.
Not popular enough. Relying on a single fan based to consistently fill a ship without having different draws seems ridiculously shortsighted and I don’t see DCL ever doing a ship without several different IP

Star Wars fans turn up, but they don’t turn up in droves like everybody thinks. It wasn’t exactly like the Star Wars Day at Sea cruises were selling out.

But the ship itself is a draw, and making it themed with Star Wars would still command a premium. People show up to sail on Costa, and that line is comically awful, based on every single review I've ever come across. So the water and the idea of sailing have some natural appeal as a starting point.

A windowless hotel at extraordinary prices was Galactic Starcruisers's issue. If they had gone with a proper cruise ship initially I think they'd have had no trouble attracting passengers.

Again Disney is never going to allow a ship to be focused on a single IP after what happened with the Starcruiser.

At most DCL might have some SW parts (restaurant, bar, or stateroom theme) but SW (especially with the new triology) has overall not performed like Disney wanted. I know the Disney+ shows are gorgeous and some very popular but they also cost a fortune to make.

I understand you would like there to be a DCL ship that is SW- I wanted the Destiny atrium to be different, sometimes things are what they are.

ETA- The Idea that SW fans will pay a premium was already tested with the Starcruiser... DCL is already costly, you think SW fans will pay a premium on top of the already extremely high cost to currently sail DCL? Some would, sure, but not enough guests to keep a cruise ship filled year round, year after year.

I get the company is branching out to new markets. And I know I am old school with DCL ships. For me, DCL is now a fleet of diminishing returns. The Wish wasn't my favourite but I'm booked on the Treasure. I'm a Disney completionist at heart having visited all parks and all ships: but this one is just not for me. Disney owns Marvel but Disney and Marvel are two separate franchises. I am fond of one, less of the other.

At least skipping this one saves me money. RIP to my completionist soul.

Showed my partner the video for the new destiny ship and the response was " Marvel isn't Disney to me " and they don't want to go on it, cause they feel its gonna be geared towards that. ( Although the lion king and haunted mansion bar look great to me )

I do agree though about Marvel in general. That does nothing for me and isn't " Disney " to me, but the kids probably love it now a days so I get it

Looks like I won't be on it sadly

Exactly the way I feel. Once the Fantasy retires, I won’t sail on DCL again (unless they build a new class with the old style) & it is sad to think about this.
