New Disney Ships: News, Rumors, Speculation.....and Names!

I did NOT have 4 more ships on my DCL D23 bingo card 😂😂 and no talk of retirement for the Magic and Wonder ☺️
I can’t see them not retiring the Magic and Wonder if they are adding four more ships. Guess I better start getting some more nights on them!

I hope they don’t build copies of the Wish class for the new ships… I’ve not been on the Wish but I’d like some variety to pick from in the future.

My guess would be 2 ships to replace the Magic/Wonder and 2 ships to start an even bigger new class (hopefully not but that's the trend 😞)

I was thinking that too, oh these four ships will be replacing two existing ones but no...they kept saying by 2031 they will have 13 ships in the fleet. So that 13 includes the Wonder and Magic.

Exciting news, but it almost certainly means the end is nearing for the Magic and Wonder. The Magic and Wonder shave higher per stateroom costs and lack the revenue generating opportunities that their more modern peers have. Most similar ships have been retired by their mainstream rivals, and both Carnival and Royal are preparing for orders that will send their remaining types to scrap yard.

Unlikely they’re going to design two new classes of ships. I would expect all four to be the same size - and probably larger than the Triton-class.

Most similar ships operate budget cruises from secondary ports or port-intensive exploration Itineraries. DCL operates neither no is likely to. IMO, it’ll follow its peers in operating destination style mega ships from PC and PE. Hopefully they’ll expand the capacity of Castaway Cay ;).

Just means they’re not ready to announce the retirement of the Magic and Wonder. Technically there would be a maximum of 12 ships in the fleet, anyway, since one will be owned and operated independently by Oriental Land Company.

I could see them doing two classes - a pair of Triton plus class ships, and a pair of somewhere between Magic class and Dream class ships. Then have the smaller pair do Alaska and Europe (and hopefully purpose build some inside areas on the Alaska designated ship.)

This is what I meant lol thanks for articulating what I failed to get across

I would handily bet that the Wish would sail Alaska - today - at capacity and with higher margins that the Wonder. The Magic and Wonder were designed 35• years ago when Carnival’s Fantasy Class was the cat’s meow. The industry has moved onto larger vessels and hasn’t looked back.

Royal recently expressed interest in a new class of smaller ships to serve ports that couldn’t physically handle larger ships (due to bridge clearances etc.) and specifically destination rich itineraries. DCL does not operate in these markets nor is it likely they will. The Dream or Fantasy can serve a one-off itinerary to South America. But DCL wouldn’t succeed with regular service - its niche is primarily people that want to see Mickey and Minnie. Most people on extended, destination rich itineraries are of an older age.

Larger, newer have been sent to Alaska and Europe in recent years. No reason DCL can’t do the same. Another European ship would likely be home ported in the UK (or similar) doing scheduled Staycations as opposed to exploratory itineraries as Dream does now.

I still suspect the Magic and Wonder will be around for a while. Maybe to continue to open up new markets/countries as a “starter ship” before one of the newer ones moves in once the business is off the ground in that locality.

Here’s another vote for hoping they aren’t Triton-class but something new. I love the amenities on the Wish but some if the architecture is a head-scratcher. (Dead ends?)

Also, I know many hate the massive new ships, but having been on an Oasis-class ship in RCL.. wow, there’s a lot of impressive things Disney could do with all the space. Theme park at sea could literally be a thing.
