Anyone know the DVC ownership breakdown by age group?

We bought our 1st contract when we were 50 and our last contract when we were 64. Now my daughter is on some of our contracts so she would have been in her late teens/early 20s when she became an owner.

Now I feel old compared to everyone else here :(

We bought last year after my husband and I finally gave in. We’d been going to Disney yearly for a long time and the “deal” on BLT points direct was decent. I just turned 41 yesterday.

I wish I could have purchased in my 20’s. I was a CM (not parks) and would have loved that discount! Then in our 30’s, it didn’t make sense. We ended up buying in our late 40’s.

I'm curious. How do the current owners of DVC contracts breakdown by age group? Is it a bell curve or weighted more heavily in one particular age group? Below is my guess for a bell curve. How would you allocate the breakdown?

Age 18-29: 5%
Age 30-39: 25%
Age 40-49: 40%
Age 50-59: 25%
Age 60-99: 5%
I'm 61, bought in our 50's 7 years ago. I didn't have much time for vacations before I retired.

I bought in my 50's. Fell in love with it during renting points but didn't buy in until later do to financial pressures.

I think there are a lot more current owners in the 60+ age group than the 5%, unless they've either sold otheir interest or gifted it to their kids. I'm 66, my mom was 68 when we initially purchased our membership together in 1992. We did 3 add-ons, to bring our total ownership to 345 points, all purchased for an average per point cost of $53.50. I'm hoping I live long enough to use every single point. :sunny:

In my mind it’s a very exclusive club, not everyone can join. You can’t buy your way in, have to earn your access to the 65+ DVC club the old-fashioned way.

No worries, we will leave a light on for the whipper snappers nipping at our ancient heels. ;)
Not sure I'm gonna leave any light on. I'll be at HHI chained to the villa so they can't sell it. Remember, some of us have experience protesting in the 70s!

I would put an average bell curve purchase age peak of 35-40. Then I would look at how many points were sold each year by DVC/resold.

That would give me a fairly accurate breakdown I suspect.

I was 30 on the dot and pregnant. I was promised "free" ice cream at the end of the tour. We regularly took trips down from NJ so much that it just made sense to buy. Of course we got add-on-itis as our daughter got older and into more of the trips, so we bought some more a couple years later. Again a few years after that. We "quit" several years ago. We felt like buying early would get us the most for our money while our daughter was young.

We bought at age 32 and are now 51. I think a big group is age 50-65. And I think a small group is 18-30. My sister in law also owns, age 56, and her kids use it (late 20s, early 30s). But they wouldn't buy their own. No need to. Same with my kids (late 20s).

We bought about 5 years after we should have. My DH had just turned 50 and me, 48 when we purchased our one and only contract in 2010.
Our sons, were 16, 12 and 10 at the time. I wish i had more time owning DVC when they were younger, but I can not go back.

We have all enjoyed it but lately its been just me! LOL Maybe future grandkids can join in the fun!!!

And I agree unless you are wealthy or a really good saver, most folks I bet buy in their 40's.

Like you, I was in my late 50's. Had looked into buying on and off since Old Key West opened. Bought BLT in 2010, and added 4 times-3 times direct with last time resale (when resale still had all the same advantages). We recently did our will and all points are to be split equally between 3 daughters. Only one daughter would like to keep her share, I have verbally told the other 2 how they can sell their share of points resale.

We bought our first contract when I was 32. We did think about DVC starting in 2013 when they were selling VGF, but waited until 2016 to purchase. It has made us take more vacations then we would've if we didn't buy then.

We first bought just a year ago when I was 38 and my wife was 39. About ready to close on our 4th and 5th contracts now...I guess we're making up for lost time 😄
