Oh, he's been on the WB. That would explain why I haven't heard of him, I watch real television networks...LOL

In fairness to UConnJack, he never said that he did not like YOU...he said that he did not like "the hip hop culture." There is a very, VERY important distinction between the two. His statement was a broad comment suggesting a personal dislike, not an attack directed another.

I don't particularly care for Country music. But that doesn't mean that I have negative feelings toward my wife who DOES happen to like Country music.

It IS possible to be tolerant toward others' likes and dislikes without sharing those same likes and dislikes. I don't see anything in UConnJack's post that shows intolerance--he simply said that Hip Hop isn't his cup 'o tea.

My demographic is African American male early 50's. We love Disney World. Disney World is the best marketing plan for DVC. After going to Orlando for 7 years, we finally joined DVC early in 2008. We love it. I know Steve Harvey. I occasionally watch reruns of his TV show. I like Steve Harvey. But I love Disney World and DVC.

It is considered terribly rude to type in all caps. I couldn't read what you said, because it is impossible to read.

I figure it's one of two things

1. It will go on sale for $140 with a limited time incentive of $20 to $30 off. And all of you screaming hysterially about "NO" will RACE to beat the clock and buy LOL!

2. It's NOT going to be the DVC we currently have. It's going to be an "upscale" product to compete with the Four Seasons and will not be part of the regular DVC. You might be able to "trade" in, but it won't be the same 11/7 deal we have now.

We will see....

sounds about right to me, sadly wouldn't bite as we only need a small add on to accommodate our vacation needs:sad2: not even sure if i'd bother adding on @ another resort if it does happen...bit of a sour taste kwim?

Understand the concept of charging what the market will bear...yet these numbers are crazy. IMO, just because you can afford something doesn't mean it's a good deal:confused3

Steve Harvey is Black, Jim Lewis is Black, they are friends...

Who cares!!!

Back to new BLT info. :thumbsup2

Agreed. This thread has gotten way off topic and is risking being closed.

So here is a question. Do you really think DVC would make such a huge jump in price or would they raise the prices incrementally which would make Hawaii the $140 plus per point property? I think people could swallow an incremental increase - kind of light adjusting and adapting to cold pool water. After a while, you adjust and it feels fine. KWIM?

Couple that with the fact that the African American demographic is relatively small with more modest financial resources, and I don't see what is gained by this marketing effort.

:confused3

I don't know if you are just plain uninformed or rude? Apparently Disney should only market to white folks??? :confused3

And I find your assumption on income just rude! I know LOTS of poor white folks LOL! Disney mails them things all the time.

It sounds like you don't really understand marketing, but it's very stupid to market to only white America..... Why cut off half the population of the US becasue they don't look like me?????

Personally I am SHOCKED by the way this thread has gone. I don't know WHY I am shocked. The DIS DVC boards have always had a tendency to be a little 'biased" (Don't believe me? Can you imagine how someone who NEEDS an accessible room feels when being told that things that meet thier needs are "inferior" "unacceptable" and basically stating that having those rooms is bad??? ) So now we think it's OK to bash marketing that's not directed towards those of us that are white?:confused3 WOW! Is that really the "Disney Magic" ? "You don't look like me so Disney shouldn't waste time selling to you?":confused3

I think it's time for the mods to close this one down!

Why ask for it to be closed down when several posts had tried to get back ot and your post digressed ot again? Comon folks, BLT is an interesting topic to some of us. There is a time and place for the other discussion.

I still would love to know what you all think of my theory ...which does relate to BLT.

Laxmom - I agree with you. I think this might just be a small increase in order to get top dollar for Hawaii. I think that it doesn't matter who BLT is going to be marketed too I think such a huge price increase right out of the gate would not be well received. Now if they raise it to $110-115 per point I think people may still buy in. Then as the VGC come online the cost goes up a little more then Hawaii is at $140.

The whole Steve Harvey thing was in the OP, so I guess I don't see how that is off topic, but anyway... I also find it funny that some people don't know who Steve Harvey is. I am a young, white female and I know who he is. I actually think he was a good marketing choice. He is an older African American, very successful and clean cut. I think he would appeal to other African Americans in his age range, especially. I don't see why Disney wouldn't want to market to middle-aged African Americans with disposable income, just like they are marketing to white Americans with disposeable income. Makes sense to me. And who cares if Jim Lewis is black? I don't think that has anything to do with anything. Just because Jim Lewis is black and so is Steve Harvey, I don't think that automatically makes them friends. I am not friends with every white person I have ever met. This thread is getting a little ignorant in that respect.
Also I still find it funny that the acronym is BLT. I can't stop thinking about sandwiches. I'm hungry...

My opinion, FWIW, is that GCV will sell at, or slightly higher, than current levels. BLT will then get an increase far less than the numbers being thrown around here. DVD will adjust the incentives based on the resorts ability to sell. Then Hawaii, if it ever gets built, will see possibly another small increase. If DVD wants to make more on a resort then jacking up the point price doesn't seem like the best way to do it, if they feel it will be a high demand resort then the points chart should reflect such, not the price/point. I also think that with the initial published projected dues under $4.00 that BLT owners will actually do better on a $/point rate when staying at the older DVC resorts.

Currently, top 1% of income earners pay a 39% of all income tax paid. The top 25% of income earners pay an 86% share, and the top 50% of all income tax earners pay 97% of all income taxes.

If anything is true about current U.S. income tax policy, it is the opposite of what you suggest. Those that don't pay significant income taxes outnumber (and presumably vote) for taxes and spending paid for by the "rich".

source: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-soi/05in05tr.xls

Just a note on these stats, they mean nothing without perspective. using the same source the top 1% earned 21.2% of total income, the top 25% earned 67.5% and the top 50% earned 87.2%

I totally agree. Disney is very good at separating us from our money so tactfully that we don't realize it at first. Examples would be KTTW card, which we have dubbed the "key to the wallet" card, DME and the bus system just to name a couple. There is the Disney premium to be paid for any Disney product - DVC is no different. But there is also a ceiling and a limit to what anyone would pay. I still think they will be reasonable in the pricing - but still an increase and the real hidden increase will be in the point charts where it takes more points to stay there per night, thus making it necessary for buyers to buy more points than would be needed for a week at, say, OKW or SSR.

Time will tell and Disney is sometimes difficult to figure out but it is fun to discuss.

Well, after painfully trying to decipher your post, let me say that I NEVER said I disliked you or people who like hip hop, black or white. I do think, however, that the message often portrayed by hip hop artists is violent, disrespectful of others, and narcissistic. That is what I don't like about it, why I don't think it fits with the spirit of Disney, and why I think it is difficult to use the hip hop culture to market to the African American community.

Also, I only stated this opinion in response to pycees312's post who was making the point that the hip hop culture, which did originate in the black community, has crossed race lines into the overall American culture, especially in the younger generation that Disney wants to make sure they get in a foothold with.

While I have made some generalizations based on factual income disparities between whites and blacks, I have never said anything (at least that I would consider) racist, and I don't believe I am. Talking about race differences does not make someone racist, and ignoring the differences and the issues between the races does not make the problems go away. The African American demographic is different from a marketing perspective, and that is the basic point I was trying to make.

And I find your assumption on income just rude! I know LOTS of poor white folks LOL! Disney mails them things all the time.

Whoa, I never said Disney shouldn't market to the African American community, I said that they need to do a better job of marketing the overall Disney brand specifically to them and attracting them to Disney before marketing DVC to that community will be effective. With Disney's historic lack of diversity when it comes to African Americans in their movies, TV shows, etc. they haven't been giving the community much to relate too. Things are changing of course, but it has taken them a long time, and I can't believe it's taken them this long to introduce a black princess (if that movie ever does come out).

And how did I make an "assumption" on income. I reported hard statistical data on income levels of whites and blacks as generated by the Census and Labor Bureaus :confused3. Of course there are many African Americans who make significantly more than the average, and plenty of whites who make less, but on average blacks make 35% less than whites. This, when coupled by the fact that blacks make up only 12% of the wage earning population, is significant when deciding who to market to from a business perspective, politically correct or not. Of course a business is going to try to get as much as it can from every demographic, but believe me, those kind of demographic statistics play a part in where a company decides to put its marketing dollars.

Personally, I don't think you even read my posts closely or objectively, because I think I have been pretty clear that Disney should market specifically to the African American community more. Its a smaller piece of the pie, but still one worth targeting. But I do believe that they 1) haven't done a good job at it to date, 2) could potetnially have difficultly if they used the hip hop culture to do that marketing, and 3) don't yet have a strong enough marketing effort in the overall Disney brand to make marketing DVC effective. I know there are MANY African Americans who love Disney, go to WDW world all the time, and/or own DVC. But I suspect (and yes, here I am assuming based on anecdotal evidence) that Disney is not as popular overall with the black community as it is with whites due to the lack of effective marketing to that community.
