Rugratsmom66,
That was my understanding as well. When you check in and ask, they look for each day that you will be there and if one is free, you're in. If there is not a day free, then better luck next time.

I should have been more specific.

Last year when we went we asked to be flag family. I was told that there were no available slots for my stay but they would take my name and if one opened up they would call us.

Sorry for the confusion. :teeth:

That's such a bummer. If you're not the first one to check in or don't stay for like two weeks, you probably don't ever get a chance at being Flag Family. We didn't check in until 8:00 PM so we had no chance at all - I'm surprised she even looked - LOL

Well, since there are only 7 days a week, if you think about it, if the book was wide open on Monday morning and 7 people in a row asked for flag family, it would be filled for the week regardless of length of stay.

Like I said, last year we didn't get it. This year we did. I will apply for it every year from now on as well. :)

FYI, I was informed by Ranger Stan that they used to do it in the evening to bring the flags down as well but they switched it to mornings only.

Yahoo!! I faxed in our room requests this afternoon and about 1 hour later I got a call from the Glorious Room Assigner-David who asked if it was more important to have bunk beds for the kids or a better view of the castle.

The DP's (Disney Princesses) and I had discussed this earlier and they gave me permission to forego the bunk beds if it meant a better view of the Castle. He told me we would be in North wing on the 6th floor. I asked to make sure that this was a non-smoking room as it seemed that most of the smoking rooms were on the 6th Floor. He commented that I really did do my homework and that yes there was one section of non-smoking rooms on the 6th.

I would have never known all this wonderful info had it not been for this great forum. Thanks to all.:p

Can't wait to experience the Magic of the Lodge. :bounce:

KCDISDAD,
If you get room 6060, you will have both a great view of the castle and bunk beds. That is the room we had this summer.

I was down to WL today and the place was empty. Less the 20 people in WC at lunch time. Talked to a CM and she said they are less then 1/3rd full. Pool had less then a dozen.

Driving past MK & MGM parking lots showed the same thing. When I went through the MK gate there was only a bus there.

Locals I have talked to say FP is shut off during weekdays.

So you should have the run of the place. Saturday will be busy as this is when locals go.

Have a great trip, the Magic Awaits.

bump, not good being on page 2.

plus, i wanted to check my countdown :D

Just back.

Had a wonderful stay.

Transportation was terrific!!

Wrote a trip report if anyone is interested.

Kimberle, thanks for sharing your report.

KCDISDAD.........Wishing you a magical trip with lots of pixie dust!!!!

FC....your low crowd report makes me want to jump on a plane and go right now...sighs....if only I had a Mickey Sorcerer crystal ball to be able to pick the EXACT right time for guaranteed low crowds:rolleyes:

I've got the Mickey Sorcerer Hat if that'll help any

FC - We'll be down the week before Christmas. How are the temps? We were there over Christmas in 2001 and the mornings it was cold (+/- 40) and it reached about 70 during the day (sometimes warmer). Is that about the norm?

Pretty much, depends on a coldfront coming down from the mainland. Like you said down to the 40's, but recovery is quick and by 10:00 AM can be up in the mid to high 60's.

we have a courtyard room
we are a kinda busy family and would like to look out and see people having fun from our balcony but also would like to be close to the food and transportation. what would we want to request? Higher floor? lower floor? inside the u/outside u? roaring forks side? Please give me a few ideas and why. need to get this out tomorrow

To pick the slower times, Disney gives you a hint. Value season time on the resorts and if there are any big disounts being offered like the FTP.

The big surprise to me when I was at the Lodge in Sep. was the large nmber of preschool families. I don't recall seeing that this time of the year before.

Hi all - we just returned last night from WL. Had a phenomenal trip - and the lodge is just beautiful.

FloridaCat - we missed you yesterday. When we went to the memories box, you had already been there.

The only other DISers I met were CMs - a Scottish CM working at UK in the World Showcase, who hasn't been online since she got here a few months ago, and TYLER (Chip n Dale Express from the Transportation Boards) drove us to Epcot yesterday...

I'll be posting a trip report soon.

Mary

Mary - how did you know it was Tyler? I kept looking at their tags. Most of the time I couldn't see their names & didn't want to be rude by staring......

HomeChicken,
With a courtyard room, you are pretty much inside the U so looking out and seeing people having fun should be easy. As far as being close to the food and transportation, ask for south wing because food is on one side of th lodge and transportaion on the other, south wing is in between. As far as the high or low floor, that would be a personal preference, I tend to like the higher floors for better views and less noise. Also, if you have little ones, be sure and request bunkbeds, the kids love them, or at least mine do. Hope you have a great trip!!

beth,

it looks like from our countdown clocks that you will be there the day after we arrive. maybe we will run into one another. what king of room did you book. we did courtyard. hope to see you. is anyone else going around 12/11 till 12/17? :D

RatPack , I borrowed your picture to understand better. the picture below has 1,2,3,4 where is south wing and which side is the food on and the transportation on etc.. I'm a guy so visual helps me to understand better.
So far I think I will ask for a 5th room floor, thats as much i have settled on
