I am FL resident and AP, and it seems like over the past year it's getting harder and harder to actually find a resort that has the rates available. It's been so frustrating. I've tried weekdays, weeknights.. December, March, April, May..

I guess there's no point to this rant. Are more people booking with the rates, or do you think they are just making less rooms available with the rates?

:confused3

I am also a FL resident and AP...I think its a little of both. As well as Disney releasing 40% off PIN's that are attached randomly to peoples profiles. I have not had any trouble finding avail for a stay with the AP or Fl disount but do not feel the discounts they do give are big enough anymore. I remember being able to get a value room for $49, a mod for $79 and a deluxe (WL & AKL) for $119. I remember a few years back I called to make a ressie and could have gotten the POLY for less than $200. Boy those were the days...I only wish I had known the prices would go up so much so I could have stayed at a few of the deluxes for cheap! I think WDW has forgotten about us LOYAL Florida resident passholders...I think its great they offer a discount for general AP's but it would be better if there was another catagory for discounts that only applied if you were a FLA resident and an annual/seasonal passholder. One that gave us residents a little more encouragement to stay on property and spend our vacation $$ instead of leaving the state. It is cheaper to go out of state for a week than to go to Disney for the same time. Sorry for the rant, guess your thread just really got me in a tizzy.

I personally think that more people are traveling - like back before the terrorist attacks in NY. With more people traveling Disney is selling more rooms to the avegare Joe who unlike us savvy DISsers no nothing about codes and rates. So the rooms are filling up and they need not offer as many discounted rooms.

I think we will be going back to the days when a discount was way out of the norm....

But remember this is JMHO!

Don't worry, the same is happening here in Cali for us AP holders at DL. We get less and less available discounts and less and less available discounted rooms. When I stay in a hotel room here I usually stay in a good neighbor hotel (usually the Hilton for convenience and deluxe). Its always WAY cheaper than on property.

As the travel industry bounces back, there's less and less need to offer discounts. If they can fill their hotels at rack rate, they're not going to be so eager to give me a deep AP discount. I doubt we'll see discounts disappear altogether, but with demand up they won't be so numerous or deep..... <sigh>

Yeah, in 03 I got WL for $109 and Pop Century for $49. The good old days! :sad2:

And thanks everyone for your insight/thoughts.. glad to see I'm not alone!

In 2003 we booked WL at $109 a night (last minute postcard rate for late August) and a value for $49 (AP during Value season). So they were good rates. But not exactly prime time either.
And as pointed out, any travel destination was doing anything they could to rebound at that time.

I'm a Florida resident and AP holder. This is the first time that I'm paying rack rate for a stay. I just tried calling with the newest code too - nothing. It's a bit disheartening to pay full price. With the high prices it is comforting to think that at least it came with a discount.

By some miracle I called today for May 10 and 11 and got AKL for 169.00.. I snatched it up since I haven't been able to get ANYTHING. This is a FL resident rate she said..
