Needing to take an extra person...Any advice?

My husband and I are taking our first trip in June with our two daughters. He is military and we were going to stay at the Shades of Green but they are booked so they are putting us up at the Pop Century. (All cancellations or payments have to be made through the Shades of Green). So anyway, we would really love to bring our niece with us (she is such a good girl) but when I contacted Shades of Green they said because Pop doesn't allow but 4 in a room they could not add her.

Now in other threads I had read that you could add a person in a 4 person room for $10 to $15 dollars extra a night. Do I need to contact Pop myself and just ask them even though my reservations are really through SOG? Has anyone run into this before and how did you handle it?

We also already have a reservation for a princesses dinner at Epcot for four and would love to the niece to get to go to that to but that is another problem?

You might get more responses to your question if you post it on the Resorts Board, but for now, as I understand it, you can't have more than 4 people in any of the value resorts unless you have a family suite at the All Stars. The extra charge that you mention is for an extra adult. For example, you can have up to 2 adults in any room; if you have 3 adults, they will charge you the extra fee (and the amount varies between resort categories), but you can't have more than 4 people total, whether adults or children. The exception is if you have a child under 3 that will be in a crib.

But, if you need a room that sleeps 5, I would think Shades of Green could get you an overflow rate at a different resort that allows it. I don't know that for sure and you'll get better, more informative answers about that at the Resorts Board, but it might be worth calling about.

Hope this helps some!

yes it does...Thank you. When we made the reservations we were not planning on 5 people because my teenage son did not want to go. (I know, CRAZY) so I thought taking his cousin, my niece would be great. She is 14 and a jewel and she would be a big help with my girls 8 and 6. We leave in two weeks and I am sure it is way too late to change hotels.

How do I move this to another thread?

And how cool KellyJ that you are in Memphis...I am in West Tennessee also. Right along the TN river.

Welcome to the DisBoards, fellow West Tennessean! My Mom lives at Pickwick, right on the Tennessee river!

A moderator should be able to move this thread for you, or you can just pop over to the Resorts Board and post a new message. I agree that 2 weeks out a different resort might not be possible but it's always worth a call to check, you never know when cancellations will happen.

At any rate, I hope you have a wonderful trip no matter what!

Kelly

You can't have more than 4 in a room because of fire codes. It isn't the hotel saying so, it is the fire department.

Bumping this up for you in hopes that someone more familiar with Shades of Green and their overflow procedures can give you more/better advice!

Sorry I can't help with the room, too much. I would callSOG and see if they can move you somewhere where you can have 5 in a room. They may say no, but it won't hurt to ask. In the meantime, I would call and change your ADRs to 5. You can always change them back, but I'm sure they have you at 4 tops for everything, and will need to re-assign. You may need to make some changes there, too, since it is so close.

Thought about the calling last night actually....so I gave that task to the hubby to do since he is a police officer and has a little more time than me (if the citizens of our fair town are behaving:rotfl2: ) We'll see what they say.

In general, it is (almost) never too late to upgrade from one level of resort to another. You would need to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter or at a deluxe resort for your party size of 5. I am not sure how it works with SOG, though. As for the extra person in reservations ... I would try to change your reservations from 4 people to 5, but I wouldn't get too upset if that doesn't work. Just tell the CM when you check in that you have an extra person. You may have to wait a bit longer for a bigger table, but you should be OK.

The husband called yesterday and there just isn't any openings. Shades of Green has some of the biggest rooms in the park so if we where staying there it would be no big deal. They have 2 queens and a futon like sofa. Plus they have all the extras like coffee maker and a fridge, etc. for the same price as a stripped room at Pop.

The guy at Shades of Green just said to keep calling back and maybe someone will cancel. As far as a larger resort I really don't have the funds to stay at a moderate or deluxe resort. I would have to save for 3 or 4 years to afford their prices:eek: . That is the one good thing about the military, you can get some really good travel deals.

If worse comes to worse we will go and enjoy the Pop (even though I have to bring my own coffee and keep food in a cooler with ice) and just love the magic of Disney and have a great time and maybe next year make sure our rooms are at the Shades of Green and not on overflow and take her then. My philosphy has always been "It will be OK":flower3:

Good Luck.

I am sending some Pixie Dust your way in hopes that things work out.

Have fun at Disney!:wizard:

I sent you a PM, but I might as well ask one of my questions here: Is the rate for a moderate still too high using the SOG overflow rates? I thought those rates were pretty good!

Good Luck.

Thanks I am 32 but just love to sparkle and glitter as much as the little girls do. It really will be good. My husband has never been and neither has my girls. I went for one day in 1986 and with my DECA group to California in 1992. But for them it will be all new. Wish I had know about this forum before I made these plans in January, but this will help in other trips to come. I should have thought of my niece before hand but who would have quessed that my 13 year old son would not want to go.
