Sorry if this is old news or if it has already been posted...but I just read the NCL's Epic is going to homeport in Port Canaveral starting in Nov 2016.

Combined with the Royal Caribbean large ship that will also call Port Canaveral home, I wish these two ships would help drive down the price of DCL! ( know, just wishful thinking!)

Ah, interesting. I knew there was an announcement today but I didn't know what it was.

I liked the Getaway, I'd probably try the Epic. I loved GA's solo studios and I think the solo lounge on Epic is much bigger.

I see more PAX, more traffic, not lower cruise prices for dcl.
there are already other ships and lines that sail out of port Canaveral offering lower prices, yet dcl still manage to fill their ships regardless of ports and increased costs.
I see it as more revenue for the port and an increased selection when cruising out of canaveral.

There's going to be better ships in PC now. The Oasis and Epic. I think it will give DCL some competition. If I'm not mistaken RCI has partnered with Universal. I think it's great to have o options that are comparable to the Fantasy. I don't know about the Epic, but the Oasis looks like a really fun ship.

I believe you are correct with Shrek and co aboard represeting dreamwork.
I agree its good to have more competition! not sure if it will lower dcl prices thou.

Competition usually lowers prices. A monopoly is never a good thing, and that's pretty much what DCL has had in PC. The ships that I have seen sailing out of PC have been on the older side. Now you have some newer mega ships with lots of bells and whistles. I think most people with kids prefer to sail of PC, and hit a theme park or two before cruising. I love WDW, but Universal is expanding quickly and adding new attractions every year. WDW hasn't really changed since the first time we were there in 2010.

Whilst I agree a monopoly is never a good thing for the consumer, i do think there is a disney fan base large enough to fill all of those jumping ship to carnival, rci or ncl, and still keep there ships full enough for the time being.
I really do not think dcl have reached their desired peak price for cruising yet with only 4 ships. But we all all know what happens when you become complacent, and arrogant enough to think you are way better than the rest.........

I'm an offseason cruiser and only book with a discount, and we have gotten some great ones over the last year. I can stomach DCL prices at the moment. My kids are entering their teen years. They now prefer Universal over WDW. They are growing up. If I can't get a price I like on DCL I will jump ship. Of course people continue to have kids and there will be somebody to take my place. I think DCL was the pioneer in family cruising, but other cruise lines seems to be making great strides. Don't get me wrong I've been very happy with DCL. I have no complaints, but I'm not going to sacrifice my kids college fund to sail on them. I would love to keep sailing on them so I'm happy to see other cruise lines stepping up in the family market. I'm hoping it will keep DCL's prices in check.

I don't follow the media monster corporations close enough to know: does an RCI partnership with Universal = Harry Potter at sea?

I agree that competition doesn't equal lower prices. Universal Studios has really upped their game over the past few years, whilst Disney has continued to close things down in the parks without having anything new and exciting to replace it. Despite that the tickets prices have continued to rise and entrance to MK is up 17%.
It totally goes against what should be happening and I bet it gives business analysts a real headache.

No, the partnership is with DreamWorks. Harry Potter is a separate contract with JK Rowling and Uni. However, its been said that there will be no face characters of at least Harry. I think the rest of the cast is off limits also but cant swear to it.

Unfortunately Disney only has 4 ships to fill in all it's itineraries. Therefor, the supply and demand is high. That's why Disney is so much. Royal, Carnival, NCL to name a few have so many more ships to fill. So that's why they have lower prices.

The only way DCL will lower prices is when they get more ships and the demand is lower.
