What’s for Dinner Tonight?

Enjoying some sushi from the local Japanese restaurant as we speak.

That thread about different Asian foods gave me a craving.

I’m off from work for the long weekend! Tonight was farmers market dinner. I bought bread and mozzarella to have with garden tomatoes and pesto.

We are on our way to spend the holiday & next week with DS. Neither of us wanted to go out, so we decided to have DoorDash deliver sushi rolls to our room for the night.

DS20 is cheffing up some steaks in a skillet, rosemary, butter, garlic. Along with a sauce from scratch, corn on the cob and sourdough bread.

tonight: Baked cod with egg noodles and sauteed spinach

Still working on emptying the fridge while doing the same to the freezer at a lesser rate. Used two of the remaining tomatoes as tomato water. Made a nice finishing liquid for couscous topped with ratatouille and a Merguez sausage (it’s made from lamb and has a lot of N. African seasoning).
Dessert tonight was two clementines.

We found the quality at Regal Eagle wasn't as good the last time we went too.

We felt the same way when we were there last May; definitely disappointed when compared to our trip in Nov 2024.

Farmers market dinner. I bought the bread and mozzarella there. I added garden tomatoes and pesto.

The cool weather is making me want to go to a fair so I checked out the New food at the Big E this year. I don’t go every year but I’m leaning towards going this year.

@LoveDaisy You have an incredible garden and I am infinitely jealous! I used to love going to the Big E but haven't lived within driving distance in decades.

The NYS Fair is happening here, but we don't step foot near it anymore for a variety of reasons....the only thing we miss is the food, so we traditionally do a few nights of our favorite "Fair Food" for dinners the week before we go back to school. Tonight we are doing Gianelli Sausage sandwiches with peppers and onions and baked potatoes. I'm making fried dough for dessert(we aren't normally a dessert family, but it goes with the theme.)

We lived in Syracuse for 5 years and went to the NYS Fair every year. I know what you mean about not missing some of it, though.

I am finally back from vacation (sent DH home on the bus and stayed for a couple extra days with my sister). Here's a picture of the beach, usually quite calm, on Saturday with the off-shore effects from Hurricane Erin; the beaches were all closed for swimming (although the surfers didn't think that applied to THEM) and the waves and undertow were CRAZY.



Dinner tonight was roast chicken. I had a bag of masala seasoning sauce from Trader Joe's that I rubbed all over the chicken. Cut up onions, carrots, and tomatoes, with the remaining spice sauce mixed with coconut milk, went around the chicken. Served it with rice. It was good, but mixing the sauce with the coconut milk made it milder than I was hoping for. I'm going to have to figure out how to kick it up a notch if we're going to eat it as leftovers during the weekend.

We had a surprise to last nights menu in that what I thought was Chinese style pork ribs, was actually a package of Chinese style chicken thighs!! It was still good, but I was anticipating the prok.

*the Chinese style is EXACLTY like boneless spare ribs from a Chinese restaurant, and they're really good


Tonight will probably be going out or getting take out. The weather here has been perfect so I'd like to enjoy it by not cooking in the kitchen and..... going out!

Leftover dinner night here.
We have meatloaf, pork chop and a small piece of chicken....oh and some egg salad, And still some bagged salad that needs to be used.

We had another storm early this morning......nothing like Monday's.
Monsoon season has been here this year....we haven't had much of one for several years. I love the rain, not the dust or too much wind. This was a thunderstorm with heavy rain. Only lasted a couple of hours, but was so loud it woke me up early. DD too and she lives about 20 minutes away.

Tonight I am going to DD's for supper and to "help" her babysit the LittleGuy as her DH is singing in one of the local pubs. I offered to let her go to, but she wants to hang out with me Supper will be sliders, salad, maybe beans or corn. After we put the LG to bed, DD and I will share a bottle of wine while we nail down travel plans... Nephew's wedding in October, Thanksgiving, and our 3 nighter to WDW in November, too!

We went to Blount Clam Shack tonight. It was pouring rain and they closed when we got there- probably bc of thunder and lightning.
Fortunately they have a Market across the street that serves the same food.
We shared a lobster roll, fried clams, chowder ( which is delicious!) and clam cakes- not a fan of those.

A cheeseburger, horchata iced coffee, and crispy, spicy wings from my competitor, 7-Eleven. Much better than McDonalds…
