Naked as a Jay Bird!

I agree! I have often let my kids go naked or just wearing underwear (panties) at the beach.

Don't you have swimsuits in Iceland? :confused3

P.S Most predators are close to the child. Fathers, grand fathers, uncles, friends etc. NOT strangers at Disney.

There are plenty of Fathers, brothers, uncles at Disney -

You took the words right out of my mouth. Urine may be icky, but it isn't unsanitary.

That's a good thing coz my DD5 had an 'accident' at Disney Quest, it happened sooo fast, and to my horror I saw other kids running through a puddle of her pee  before I could do anything to get it cleaned up. :sad2:

Poor kids, I felt terrible for them - they had no idea.

I'm sure it's not the worst thing they've stepped in. :lmao:

That´s why I said MOST and not ALL. I think sometimes we can be too careful. We can hold back too much, because of fear. I refuse to live my life that way.

I guess we agree to disagree...I respect your opinion, you have a right to it. So you (and anyone else with doubts) understand, I do let my kids be kids, but with caution....I will never change that because that decision could change one or more of my children's lives....if that were to happened, I would never be able to live with the fact that I did not do everything (that I think is appropriate) to avoid it from happening....just my opinion and most other parents from this area (the midwest)....I guess the fact that we are in two different regions of the world may make the difference in opinion....Sadly, we are not living in the world that WE grew up in. Oh...and the "MOST" part...that is what keeps my guard up....at least until it changes to "ALL"...then I will be a little less worried

Yes we do. That doesn´t mean that I always have them with me when we find a nice beach when we travel (no swimming in the ocean here, it´s far too cold). We also have bikinis here but that doesn´t stop me from going topless at the beach if I´m in the mood for it.

Regarding the fathers, brothers, uncles etc: Those men are statisticly most likely to abuse their own children, sisters, brothers, nieces, etc.

She was talking about fathers, brothers, and uncles of the victim.
I realize that but it doesn't really matter as pedos are opportunists and will definitely take advantage of a strangers family's unguarded moments at Disney.

Also, a parent can never be too careful....you only get one chance to preserve your child's innocence before it is gone forever...a life long sentence that some victims never get over....what would you think if you or a friend/family member accidentally came across a nude picture of your son/daughter on a child porn site???

I'd disown any family member or friend who came across a nude picture of any child on a child porn site. Innocence isn't based on what other people have done with innocent pictures of you. Talk about blaming the victim. If someone takes a picture of you (as an adult, fully dressed) at a theme park, photoshops it onto a naked body that isn't yours and distributes it on a website that you never see - are you harmed? Do you protect yourself against that possibility?

And pedophiles don't need naked pictures of children for their purposes. A kid in a swim diaper. A kid in a too-small bathing suit. A kid in a too-large bathing suit. A kid in a bathing suit which fits well and is adult-styled. A kid in a princess dress. A kid who ran into the fountain in their clothes and got soaked. I've just snipped the way those kinds of pictures can be used because it's not fit for a family website.

Now, that said, I'm trying really hard to teach my child that nudity isn't appropriate in all situations. Going commando isn't appropriate in all situations, etc. But pedophiles are really far down on the list - and I spent a couple of years working for a group that does research into crimes against children.

Hopefully you keep it in Iceland...not your visits to the US...we tend to "frown" on that as you can see by this board :lmao: A good example of cultural differences....

Sorry, it is a bodily fluid and MANY diseases can be contracted from bodily fluids...HIV/Aids according to the Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic says you can contract HIV from urine? (I actually see a couple of studies touting a new urine test for HIV; they mention as an advantage that urine contains no infectious HIV.)

Not all bodily fluids are created equal. Most people's urine contains no infectious agents at all. You're much more likely to get sick from snot than from urine, and there are no "sneezing rooms" to ensure that most of it gets disposed of hygenically.

Not that I'd ever advocate peeing in any spot not specifically designed for it, including the privacy of my own backyard. (If anyone else wants to let their kids pee in their own backyards, not my problem!) But it's an "ick" issue, not a public health issue.

Do you have any theories that support this? This definately does not fit the descriptions/studies of most pedofiles I´ve read about.

I'm sorry, but I've had universal precautions training. Not all "bodily fluids" are created equal, so to speak. While trace amounts of HIV can be found in urine, it is not transmissible through contact with urine. There are no recorded cases of anybody ever contracting HIV in that manner. Saliva and blood - the most commonly encountered of the other bodily fluids - are of far greater concern for various diseases, and are never classified as "sterile." However urine is indeed classified as "sterile."

However, I will concede that it's possible for urine to pick up certain germs from the person's skin as it passes. That's why when doctors ask for urine samples they explain the procedure for obtaining a "clean catch."

Once again: Urine might be "icky," but it's sterile.

I know for certain that there are cultural guides in travel books for other countries. Is not the reverse also true?

Sure. But in my country there are very few guidebooks I can buy about any other country - I would have to go on the internet and look for a book to order in, or find my info online somewhere. Not every guidebook ever written is available everywhere, and not every guidebook addresses every possible thing. If you came to visit my country, I'm not sure you would learn everything about our culture here before you came. Even if you did a lot of research, you are likely to miss something. Tourists very often do inappropriate things while they are visitors to my country, and I understand that they aren't doing it deliberately to offend. Personally, not much offends me - but there are segments of our population who do get offended by what some tourists, many of them Americans, do.

I have yet to go topless in the US. If I´m at a beach with other topless women I have no problem with this. If that is not customary in the area, I do not, and that´s not problem either. I have been "warned" though of specific beaches in the Orlando area where going topless is customary, so it is also done in the US. With that being said, I have also been around naked American kids on US beaches, when my kids were wearing swimsuits.

I am sooo curious to know where you live.;)

So you're saying you could leave your topless/panty clad kids at the beach and not worry about who was around?

I realize that but it doesn't really matter as pedos are opportunists and will definitely take advantage of a strangers family's unguarded moments at Disney.
Actually this is completely wrong. The reason the victims are almost always targeted by family members or other trusted people is precisely because they are trusted and are far less likely to be caught/punished if they target somebody close. Some families cover up the dirty little secrets. Some simply refuse to believe that the trusted individual could do such a thing. "Successful" pedophiles are successful because they don't target strangers, who are likely to scream and yell or be watched over by their families in public places. Parents are usually on their guard to protect their kids at Disney. Maybe not so much when their kids are spending the day at Uncle Marty's house. (Apologies to people named Marty... I just needed a name for the hypothetical.)

Once again... that is not to say that kids are never victimized by strangers. They are. But this is so rare as to be newsworthy when it happens. Unfortunately, it's far more common amongst family members -- so much so that such cases aren't newsworthy.

What they are wearing has nothing to do with it. I wouldn't leave my daughter alone anywhere regardless of what she was wearing.
