Nail Experts - Shellac or Artificial Tips?

Need some help. I see a ton of people getting their names done with Shellac and I am wondering what the big difference is between that and having tips put on. Is is that Shellac coats the top of your original nails? I also see that Shellac can be more expensive.

Any tips would be appreciated as I want to get mine done but cost is an issue.

Thanks - Diane

I would say that it depends upon your own nails. I have always had paper thin natural nails that flake and break. Also, my cuticles rip, tear, bleed and have hang nails. I have found that Solar Nails are the best for me. I always do the french manicure with the pink and white tips. Solar Nails are, in my opinion the strongest, most long lasting of the options. They are the most expensive as well.

For those of you that don't want long nails, you don't have to have them. I do square shaped short nails. The manicurist makes the white tip wider so there is the optical illusion that the nails are long, but in reality they are quite short. I love having them because I don't have any of the cuticle problems that I have with my natural nails.
