Mythos Restaurant

I'm anxious to go back and see how things have changed since I was there long, long ago!

I've had many good meals there, and the atmosphere is fantastic! It's amazing how amongst theme parks you can sit for hours in a place and just be content to be there!

I'm not much for seafood, but they once had a lobster (stuffed?) baked potato that was fantastic.... perfect alongside a filet mignon!

I fell in love at Mythos....

Karen / MsDis

This is on the menu. It is the Chicken Oscar, and it is excellent. If you remeber the Corvina from long ago and how good that was, well this is just as good:cool2:

REALLY!!! It's hard to imagine any chicken dish being as good as that fantastic Corvina!!

How long ago were you there?

What was done or said by the hostess that made you consider it "rude":cool2:

It's been awhile since we were there...June '05. We are, however, planning another trip to Universal so we are excited!

When I first made the reservation at Mythos, the person I spoke to on the phone was very nice and we got to chatting. I told her that I wanted as early a ressie as possible as my then almost 2y/o likes to take his nap right after lunch. She then proceeded to give me, according to her, the earliest and first reservation. (I don't remember the exact time but it was early...I seem to recall it being 11-something)

When we showed up, it was still closed so we waited "in" the volcano. My then 9y/o loves volcanos so he was esp excited to eat in one! lol

We wait a good while till they opened but that was fine with us 'cause we really needed the rest, plus there was a bit of a drizzle so it was a good place to wait.

When Mythos finally opened, I spoke to the hostess and she said it wouldn't be long.

The original hostess left and a manager (you could tell it was a manager due to the attire and name tag) took her place. As we wait, many other parties, big and small, walk right up and proceed to go right in. After the 4th family walks right in, I approached the hostess and ask (in a polite way) how much longer before we get seated. She states "we will seat you, when we seat you."

Though I was upset with her tone, I let it go 'cause I didn't want to ruin it for my family. (they hadn't heard her) We waited some more. Finally, after 40minutes we get seated in a *nearly* empty restaurant.

I can say, happily, that the server was extremely nice and pleasant.

However, I still regret not reporting that manager. I think it's ruined Mythos more for me now, then when that happened. Had I just reported her...I would've let the experience go. As it stands...I still hate not having done a thing about her attitude. It wasn't so much her words, as her tone and facial expressions.

However, I am happy to report that my toddler wasn't fussy due to naptime and he even managed to eat a few bites of his pizza. (this was a big deal 'cause at the time, he had a severe oral aversion! :)) I even have a picture of him eating there and he is smiling big! :goodvibes

I realize (and hope) that my experience isn't the norm...thank Goodness! And maybe we will give Mythos another try, who knows...esp after viewing some of the pictures you guys have posted!

That was during a time when i was without a pass to Universal so i do not know who was the manager at that time. Shannon is now the manager and Leanne is the lead hostess.

And as hard as it is to believe the Chicken Oscar is every bit as good as the Corvina was. Of course the Corvina was so very long ago. I would love to have the Corvina, Chicken Oscar and the Rissoto with the scallops and raspberry red wine reduction sauce all available on one day to order them all and have a side by side taste test to determine which one i can say is my favorite:cool2:

I'd LOVE to be there with you on that day. What a treat that would be. All topped off with the warm, gooey, chocolate banana cake!!!

We ate at Mythos during Xmas week and had a great meal with wonderful service and food. I had the pasta special while my husband had the risotto. We're more adventurous eaters so we appreciated the variety. Loved the dessert...the $1 shot glasses filled with "just a taste"..chocolate mousse, tiramisu, etc.. It was a perfect way to top off a nice meal.

Mythos sounds great. I was impressed by the exterior when we went on Saturday to OIA (for the 1st time ever having lived in Orlando for 3 1/2 years!) I commented that I wanted to go back just to eat there!!!!

Having known the managers and hostesses at Mythos can I ask for a description of the manager who you claim was rude to you?

Went to Mythos 1/21/07 and had the scallop rissoto. OMG was it delicious.
I got to try a new dessert. I guess it is BLUEBERRY month either now or next month and they have a Blueberry Cerme' Brule'. The presentation is on a large round glass plate with a lot of powdered sugar around the outer 2/3 of the plate for a "snowy effect" and then the dish with the creme' brule' in the middle and two groups of four blueberries close to the center dish. The creme brule has whole blueberries in it. It is still a work in progess since mine was a bit to the liquid side on the bottom. Now i do not care much for blueberries, but the flavor and consistency of thick creme, (liquid on the bottom not withstanding) was very good. Hopefully this signals an additional "real" dessert to accompany the gooey cake with a seasonal theme. I know the dessert shots have gone over very well, but i prefer a real dessert over a "test tube" version any day:cool2:

Still looking for a description of the manager who was claimed to have been rude.

Sorry...just saw this question as I don't check in here but every now and then.

I don't remember exactly what she looked like and if I were to try to describe her, it would be very general. (meaning, someone might think it was them when it wasn't) Anyway...describing her at this point isn't going to do much good.

Without becoming confrontational, your response comes off as a bit of a copout. I worked for UO/IOA for close to two years in a management position. I know the manager of Mythos well as she worked under my supervision during my tenure there. She is anything but rude, and has received several commendations on her guest service. I was trying to determine, by your description, if it was someone else who may have been assisting her. In any case, you claim a manager was rude but won't offer details as to what she looked like. The manager of Mythos, as others who either know her or have met her, is fairly easy to describe.

Please understand my motivation on this matter. If the manager of Mythos has an employee who is not exceeding expectations and possibly the cause of losing business because of a negative attitude, she deserves to know. For the record, I am not currently a UO employee, nor have been one for the past thirteen months.

I agree...the manger (not you) has a right to know. As I stated before, it is a regret of mine that I did not report it. And, as I stated before, I do hope to give Mythos another chance...esp since the waitstaff/server was extremely nice and helpful. (not to mention that the food was good)

As far as my response being a cop-out...no, it's more about being mature and not willing to get into a "he said/she said" confrontation.

And yes, your posts do have a hint of confrontational tone and it did come off (at least to me) as a veiled attempt to humiliate in order to do as you please. (describe the person)

This forum allows us to share our experiences. And I did that.

Others, obviously, have had waaayyyy more positive experiences and that's good. I'm glad for them. However, that doesn't mean that 100% of experiences are that good and I have a right to share what *I* experienced.

If you go back and re-read (and I suggest you do) my post...I offered my experience in a very light manner. Though I related a negative experience, I did start off in a postive tone and ended it in a positive tone. I am hoping that if disers were to read my post and they run into a similar situation, that they report it 'cause I've certainly regretted not doing so.

Take what you want from what I posted. Leave what you don't like. That choice is yours and yours alone to make.

But please do not tell me that I'm copping out by not naming names or refusing to describe the manager who was rude to me.

I suggest you take my post for what it is...*my* re-telling of *my* experience and leave it as such.

I will no longer answer your questions.

Point taken.

I meant no disrespect, nor harm, in my posts. I was simply trying to help someone I respect and admire find out if an employee was being less than stellar and possible a detriment to UO business. The paragraph listed below
is harsh and strong in nature. Your words, not mine.

"However, I still regret not reporting that manager. I think it's ruined Mythos more for me now, then when that happened. Had I just reported her...I would've let the experience go. As it stands...I still hate not having done a thing about her attitude. It wasn't so much her words, as her tone and facial expressions."

Again, my intention was not to try and humiliate you into answering my question. My intention was to see if your accusation was valid. I think you've answered that question for me. Peace to you and yours.

I know I'm gonna regret this post...but...oh well...

I love Mythos! I've loved Mythos since it opened, and when I was living in Orlando, I had Universal AP's and we typically ate their at least once, if not more often every month.
I have had wonderful service and wonderful food from there.

However, I've also had atrocious food and what *I consider* sub-par service.
I once ordered a hamburger and mashed potatoes (instead of fries). The mashed potatoes (which came out 18 minutes after the rest of my food...yes I timed it...) were actually a *liquid* with small chunks every so often. I've made better mashed potatos with flakes and water... Which I think they must have done because their potatoes had absolutely no taste what so ever. (It wasn't just me, I was dining with a friend who also tried it and agreed).
I won't begin to describe the hamburger....I've gotten better (and much less greasy) burgers from Mels...
Have I gone back to Mythos since then? Yep. Many times. Have I ever ordered the hamburger again? Heck no. I have had the mashed potatoes before and after the "incident", and they were wonderful. So I'm guessing it was just an off day. (I wouldn't have mentioned this...but since I described the food as Atrocious...I figured I might as well explain why)

All restraunts can have off days...I totally believe what happened to Harmony, and without knowing more about the situation I doubt she over reacted.
I've also had trouble with the wait staff and the hostess. (only several times, over many many many visits, which I take as a good sign).
But the first time we took my parents to Mythos, we had 11:30 (opening) ressies. We arrived a few minutes before were the third group waiting. At 11:30 they began seating. By 11:45 they had seated the three groups that were waiting before us...I expected to be next. We still had not been seated at Noon. They were still seating however - walk up groups with out ressies (I was sitting on the bench next to the podium so I could hear what was going on). I watched for a few more minutes as they seated walk-in groups (who I heard say "we don't have reservations, but we're wondering if we could wait for a table"...to which the hostesses seated them immediately.)
Finally I got up to ask (I think I was polite) the hostess when we would be seated (I did mention we had 11:30 reservations.) I was also told, that we would be seated when we were seated. We were eventually seated around 12:40...over an HOUR after our reservations. Now I understand if you have a bunch of reservations...or if the restraunt is particularaly busy/full...then I'll wait no problem...But to take walk-in's before a group with reservations(who has already been waiting 30 minutes) is absolutely unacceptable to me.
To top it off, Our party of 4 was seated in the "private" room off to the side, (against a wall so we didn't even get a window view without looking over our shoulders) where we were mostly ignored by our server, who I expect just forgot we were back their since we couldn't be easily seen from the main dining room. (which was *not* full).
Before anyone asks, No-I do not remeber who the hostess was...I think she was blonde about 5'6ish...that's all I remeber.

Since this incident I've also returned to Mythos many times (usually on a whim without ressies)...and I will continue to return...but everyone has their bad days, and unfortunatly I've caught them on several :(

P.S. Yes, I did actually go to guest services to complain about the hostess. I didn't want to call a manager at the restraunt because I knew I would be returning to Mythos, and liked the anonimity of my guest service complaint.

Please don't flame me, I was simply recounting my experiences

MsDis and i went to Mythos today and tried the new entree' on the menu. It was pork with a blue cheese and blueberry crust, with mac and cheese on the side. The mac and cheese had a slight smokey taste to it, but the pork was outstanding. I know it sounds wierd but i had to try it, and it was fantastic. There is also a the spinich salad with blueberries in it and much to my surprise it worked very well and i would order it again instead of the shrimp cocktail. :cool2:

Thank you for posting this Aurorasleeping. I thank you because now MO1KH can see that I wasn't lying (as he/she implied). Just for the record...I too never accused anyone of anything. Just like you, I was simply recounting *my* experience.

It's weird how your experience mirrors mine so closely. (except we were seated at a table with a view and our server made me forget (temporarily) about the hostess 'cause he was just so nice)

I'm so glad to hear that you've gone back and had much more positive experiences. I'll probably (more than likely) give Mythos another chance 'cause of all the positive experiences I've read about and because it's rated so highly in many guides.

Yep, anyone, anywhere, anytime, can have an "off" day. (some more than others...LOL) And just because people are normally "nice and sweet" to customers doesn't mean that they are that way 100% of the time.

I'm glad to hear that you reported the incident. I wish I had. I'm sure you have kept others from negative experiences.

Again, thanks for posting this. I know that it's not easy 'cause the 'backlash' of posting things like this is sometimes just not worth it. Still, one of the purposes of this forum is to share so I'm glad you did.

Okay, now you've gone and made me hungry! That sounds good. I normally enjoy food that has a "smoked" taste to it so the mac and cheese sounds delicious! I've never had it that way.
