I said I was done with learning. But now I'm considering upgrading my diploma in counselling to an advanced diploma. Still pondering the cost/benefit ratio. Depending on where you look, it's worth either a level 3 qualification or a level 7! My current diploma is a level 4, so I'm assuming the advanced one will boost me to a level 5. That's another few hundred pounds, so I'm giving it some serious thought. Lots of work, a lot of money, is the qualification worth it?

If you are still having the health issues that have postponed opening your practice, then I would say do it now. It will increase your knowledge and benefit your clients in the long run.

If you are doing better and preparing to open the practice soon (say, by year end) then I would not start any continuing education now. You are qualified to open the practice and you may find once you are working with actual clients that you need/want training in a different area than what you are considering now.

Thanks for the input! I'm still too ill to practice in a professional setting, so maybe learning and bettering myself in the mean time will be worth it. Thankyou, you've helped a lot!

The key is not using the education to put off opening the practice. If you can’t open it yet anyway, then continued education keeps you fresh and up to date, so long as you are taking classes related to your goal.
