We were lucky enough to stay at the Polynesian from 12/7 through 12/15, thanks to the refurbishment of CBR.

Wow, the Polynesian was our Disney dream come true! I had requested Tokelau, room 2912 and got Tokelau, room 2913 (which was actually BETTER!). We had a wonderful view of the Grand Floridian and the lagoon. From the stairwell located at the end of our hallway (and just a few steps from the door of our room), we had a picture-perfect view of Cinderella's castle and Space Mountain. In the morning, we sat on our balcony and could hear the train whistle from the Magic Kingdom. They also piped Hawaiian Christmas music throughout the grounds, which was a blast to listen to!

The rooms are extremely spacious and clean. I did not think the room looked worn at all (although I'm pretty sure they're getting ready to rehab this building  ).

It was a quick walk to the quiet pool or to the Grand Ceremonial House (where we enjoyed a few drinks at the Tambu Lounge :p ). We had a few breakfasts at the Kona Cafe and LOVED taking the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.

My one and ONLY disappointment with this resort was our housekeeper. Boy, was she bad! I don't know how many times I had to re-make the bed because she did such a poor job. One night, I made the mistake of going to sleep with a pair of socks on, which came off during the night. I didn't realize that I left them in the bed when I left the room, but when I came back I found them in the opposite corner of the room, about 3 feet from each other....it was very obvious that she had tossed them across the room. It made me really angry, because we were tipping her very generously. I thought about complaining, but decided against it because it was Christmas :p. On the other hand, my sister-in-law had a room almost directly below us (same week) and her housekeeper was excellent. Oh, well. It didn't impact my vacation at all, so it's not really a big deal.

Welcome back! I'm glad you had a good stay at the Polynesian! :)

I think the sock thing would bug me a little too, but not too much, just like you said, not enough to impact your vacation or impression of the resort. I just find it odd that the housekeeper would toss your socks then just leave them like that. lol At least she should've tossed them together. lol

In the room you had was that a lagoon view or garden becuase in july my family and I are staying at the polynesian and was going to request a Tokelau garden view room.

I think my room was considered a garden view room, but like I said, we had a great view of the lagoon. They may not be able to call it a "lagoon view" room because of the fact that you also see the Hawaii building, located directly next to Tokelau.

We were at Polynesian 12/12-12/15 at the Tokelau. This would have been ideal had the weather cooperated, but with the torrential downpour causing flooding and very cool temperatures - it wasn't.
I guess we never thought about bad weather when we chose to stay there and this is NOT the fault of either Disney or the Polynesian. Just the luck of the draw with the weather.

By the first day of our cruise, DH and I had upper respiratory infections (I also had strep throat) but this was ministered to by the wonderful MD on the Disney Wonder - Dr. Bernie.

I do want to agree with Chris&Kim about the housekeeping. Very poor. Our beds were always thrown together with the mattress pad bunched up in the middle and not fitted to the corners. Also, we found our patio door unlocked EACH time after s/he left the room and that made us very uncomfortable. We are "neatfreaks" so there wasn't much for her/him to do in our room.

If I ever go back to a WDW resort, it will be Contemporary Tower.

Just my two cents!

Welcome home and thanks for the review! Tokelau is a great location--glad you enjoyed it! :)

When we were down in October we too had a not so great house keeper, to the point where I stopped giving the tip to her by the third day. We were there for an 8 day stay too. I figured since she didn't care neither would I. I did not feel badly 'cuz a tip is for a job well done. I would love to try the polynesian next time. Glad you got a great up grade when the closed the CBR.

Welcome home! I also love the Poly - it's such a great resort! Glad to hear you had such a great stay. :)

We were in Rapa Nui from the 14th to the 21st (sigh) and I have to commend our housekeeper, and kick myself for not getting her name. One afternoon, we were getting ready to go to MVMCP and were slow getting out of the room. This was Thursday, and we (later) learned that Thursday, the occupancy went from @ 40% to 95% (the Christmas Crowd checking in). That explained why our housekeeper didn't make it to our room until @ 4:30 p.m. (we were wondering...) BUT the point to my story is that DH was in the bathroom getting ready (and such) and she was kind enough to do the rest of the room with me in there (and moving out of her way) and then WAIT until DH was finished --- and then immediately go in and do the rest of the bathroom cleaning (brave girl, braver than me!). Our room was consistently clean, fresh linens were in place, and our toiletries were refreshed even when the ones from the previous day were still in the same spot. We were impressed, and were always very cordial, and she was always very cordial in return. And I'm still kicking myself for not getting her name.

Glad to hear that you had such a good experience. I've been to WDW resorts many times and I know my experience was not the "norm".

We normally have excellent housekeeping, which was another reason I didn't really give it a second thought.
