My Guinea Pig is 7.5! How old was/is your oldest pet?

I got Peanut 7.5 years ago when he was a few weeks old. The pet store folks told me he would live to be 5 or 6. He's had quite a decline in the past year (his back end does not work too well anymore), but he is alert, perky, affectionate, hungry and still "talking."

I had to go back to the pet store today to get him some supplies (I have avoided buying that jumbo bag of litter--didn't want to jinx the little guy), and when I told the owner that he was 7.5, she was amazed. She said 6 is considered pretty old, 7 is almost unheard of.

Have you ever had a guinea pig or other pet that "beat the odds" and lived a long time?

My mum had a goldfish for 20 years :fish:

Our last golden retriever was 18 when we finally put him down. Our "baby" will be 2 on the 26th. I hope this golden lives that long!

We have a 20 year old cat, he's not in great shape.

dwarf frogs that are 5 years old and survived their tank being knocked over by our other cat, one was somehow found at the bottom of my basement stairs in a pile of lint. My poor neighbor (who was watching our pets while we were in wdw) threw them in a bowl of water til we came home. They usually live 3-4 years we were told. Not a day goes by that I feed them and expect one to be floating.

I know of one guinea pig that lived to be 8.

I think I read the average life span of a rabbit is about 7 years. I had a rabbit who died 4 years ago after she turned 9. I also have a rabbit now who seems to be pretty healthy, and he's 6 right now. My oldest pet is my golden Misty, who's 10. She's in pretty good shape, although she's not as energetic as she used to be.

I got my first pet, a :cat: named "Sandy" when I was 4 years old. He lived until he was almost 21 years old and this was a cat that went outside till the day he died. I miss him so much :(

I had a guinea pig that lived 7 years. I also thought that was pretty old. I got him when I was in high school when he was a few weeks old. He stayed with me through college and after I got married. We have a guinea pig now. We have had her for a year and a half and I have no idea how old she is. She was given to us by a neighbor girl who was allergic to her and they got her from somebody else.

I have a 19 y.o. cat.

I had a cat that lived to be 19 too. I also had a cat that lived to be 18.

My oldest cat now is 12. I hope she stays healthy for a long long time.

Our oldest Airedale was 15, and we had to put her down with cancer a couple months ago.

WOW!! My DS will be thrilled to hear of a guinea pig living that long!! Our guinea pig is 2.5 years old.

My sister found her cat full grown 18 years ago! She's still old, feisty and EVIL!

My cat Rambo lived till the grand old age of 17 after being diagnosed with cancer at 14. I treasured every minute with him!

Wow. I got a piggy right before Xmas and he had babies. :p
I had to get rid of all of them, although I really loved Max. Max, as a baby piggy never shed, after the babies he was shedding....a lot. I am allergic to cats and apparently guinea's too. I thought about keeping the sweetie, I had heard 3 was a good life span for them and figured I could suffer. After hearing THIS story, I am so glad I found good homes for them all. ::yes::

Well if horses can be considered pets..."Judy" lived to be 33+ we didn't know her exact age but she was well over 30, Apache lived to be 25 and we currently have Silver and Tony who are going strong at 23 and 22.

Our g. piggy's are going to be 3 in June and our dog will be 10 on May 18th.

I cat-sat for a kitty who was 21. I was 19 at the time. It's rather disconcerting to stare at a cat that was born before you.

I truly hope my boys live that long! They are 3 and 4 - or 28 and 32 in human years. :)

My dog Penny will be 4 on July 31.

We had a rabbit who lived to be 10 years old, but she died of uterine cancer. I didn't realize that you should/could get rabbits spayed/neutered, but it's good advice. All three of our rabbits died of cancer of the reproductive organs :(

My beloved Kiddle (Siamese Cat) died a week before her 17th birthday. That was way back in the 1980's and I still miss her.

Speaking of really old animals... check this out!

Now that's old.

Roberta

Edited to add, I just looked up the oldest documented cat. 34 years!!

We had a boxer until he was 17 and our children's pet- a cocker spaniel died at 15.
