I got Peanut 7.5 years ago when he was a few weeks old. The pet store folks told me he would live to be 5 or 6. He's had quite a decline in the past year (his back end does not work too well anymore), but he is alert, perky, affectionate, hungry and still "talking."
I had to go back to the pet store today to get him some supplies (I have avoided buying that jumbo bag of litter--didn't want to jinx the little guy), and when I told the owner that he was 7.5, she was amazed. She said 6 is considered pretty old, 7 is almost unheard of.
Have you ever had a guinea pig or other pet that "beat the odds" and lived a long time?
