Must DH wear suit to a wedding

Always thought the default order of threads SHOULD be newest to oldest. New members often don't look at the date of last remark and revive long dead threads. The OP who started some thread from 4+yrs ago is frequently long gone.

I'm actually wondering the same thing—my DH isn’t big on suits, so I’ve been trying to figure out what’s really expected. Some people say it depends on the dress code, but others think a nice blazer and dress pants might be enough.
It has been my experience that unless one is part of the wedding party, all they have to be is at least not be in coveralls and a straw hat. In todays world "business casual" is probably alright, but a suit is absolutely not necessary. With what you described it is alright but if you are concerned, a simple sport jacket/blazer will be more than enough. If money is a problem they can be found, sometimes in almost new condition, at any good will type location. Then it becomes practically disposable or returned to that location so someone else can knock them dead at a wedding.

This is an old thread but people still get invited to weddings, so it is something that can remain current.

I think this is definitely regional, every local wedding I’ve attended has had most men in suits. At the very least, tie, button down, slacks and a blazer.

In my city, no man would wear a suit unless the wedding was at some upscale venue, especially in the summer when it could be 110 degrees.

I'm covering two significant regions. New England and North Carolina (or the south). I have only owned one suit in my life and that was in the 1970's for work. And have been to many weddings where I have kinda dressed up, meaning shirt and tie with a blazer and no one has even looked at me funny or thrown me out. Highly formal occasions do sometimes require more formal clothing, but I wouldn't attend one of those anyway. I wore a tux to both my daughters weddings but I was the "give away" part of the wedding party. I can dress up, I just don't want too.

And I’m covering the NYC metro area (although the last wedding I attended was at a beach resort about 40 minutes north of Boston, pretty much all suits (ceremony was outside and a little chilly, good thing they all had jackets).
