Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

Walt Disney World. Come on people, don't act like we all don't overhype all the things we like on here. :D

But if I'm going to join in:

- Disney Springs/Downtown Disney: Sorry, I didn't drop thousands of dollars to get there and shop at overpriced stores and restaurants. :D

- The "magic" of staying onsite. With the few exceptions of some of the mid-to-higher-end resorts, those lower end ones are glorified motels. For the same price or less, you can be staying in a multi-room condo or home 5-15 mins away from the parks - most of which have much less crowds.

I agree about staying at WDW resorts. We are sharing a condo for 7 nights in a gated community with my brother and his family for about what it would cost for 2 nites on property! We did this last time as well and got a private house in that same community with a pool for $750 + tax, 4 bedrooms -just 3 miles from Animal Kingdom. We do breakfast at the house before we leave. We rather spend our money doing some specialty dining at the parks.

As for Disney Springs - it is a nice way to spend a couple of hours before you have to get to the airport. I certainly wouldn't waste time there on days I had park tickets.

Peter Pan. Maybe my grandma didn't like it either, because I never remember going on it as a kid. We started going in the mid 70s, and there are a handful of rides we always went on - IASW, HM, Pirates, CBJ. There were some we never went on, like Space Mountain, for a particular reason - neighbor went on it, and his back was never the same - but some we apparently always walked by for no reason. Peter Pan is one of those.

I'm laughing as I'm reading these, so many varying opinions!

Overrated for me:

Dole Whips
Port Orleans Riverside
Peter Pan
Ohana dinner

The vast majority of things that have been listed are things that I love most about Disney. So I think this thread is hysterical. And also shows why Disney has so much variety-- because clearly different people get into different things.

And if they take Fantastic away, I will legit cry. I already am going to DL while it's not going to happen and that's just painful enough! But while I would be happy to see some things added or updated, I love that show enough that I would go every week if I could. I've seen it at least 25 times by now and I still dance and sing along to the whole thing.

What I think is most overrated??
Indiana Jones stunt show (saw it once, never want to go back)
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (neither wild, nor much of a wild, just slightly painful and about a movie hardly anyone knows anymore)
Mission Space (now I'm feeling nauseous)
Ellen's Energy Adventure (40 minutes of feeling what it's like to be held hostage)

i agree with fantasmic, and i will add Boma. really hated this restaurant

and peter pan!! I don't get the wait time this ride gets! I would take winnie the pooh or little mermaid over this any day!

1. Boardwalk Inn (Creepy Clown pool says it all)
2. Peter Pan
3. Tsum Tsum
4. Turkey Legs
5. Fantasmic (nice to see once, but that's enough for us lol)

Frankly there is NO attraction over rated. Disney is that good.

Now that said, every guest enjoys some attractions better then other guests do and do not like others as much as others.

This is personal choice, not a matter of over rated or underrated.

Just saying.........

Another vote for Dole Whips and Illuminations. They just don't do it for me.

I agree with you. I love staying on site vs off (and I have done both multiple times) I love Peter Pan, and I'm trying to find a way to fit in some shopping time at Disney Springs.

I know it is hard to have a thread that is about what you don't like and have it come off sounding positive, but some posters are teetering on the edge of insulting those who do like certain things they don't. You can say you don't like something without coming off as those who do are idiots.

vinylmation; never did understand it and I find the plain faces spooky

anything Frozen; I think Disney put all it's eggs into this and it will fade out much too soon for them. cute movie, but?

Peter Pan - I know, I know, lots of people love it and stand in very long lines. We tried it last year because of all the hype, and came out saying, What the heck is the fuss about?????

Epcot -- honestly it is such a shell of it's former self that it is just plain sad now.

stitch - need I say more?

Gotta be turkey legs or Ohana. Both have that famous Disney meat consistency of grizzled and chewy.

Well poop. I'm planning a first family DW trip and everything I have on my "to-do" list has been hit at least once in this thread. I guess we will just roll up in the parking lot and just camp out there. Well, unless somebody says the parking lots are over rated.

I know... I'm kidding. I'm just wanting my kids to feel that same magic I felt 30 years ago even if I know the pirates will never get the cell keys from that dog.

I'm heading over to the under-rated thread to find something that will get us out of the parking lot. :teeth:

CMAG38 - LOTS of these things are worth doing at least once. If this is your family's first experience, please do everything you think they would enjoy. Many of us on the Dis boards are Disney veterans so we've done most things multiple times. Where we are fortunate enough to go with frequency, we have the luxury of picking and choosing things we know we love, vs. some of these things that are just so-so to us. AND keep in mind that what one person things is overrated, you might think is the best thing you ever did! This it YOUR vacation - do what makes your family happy :) Have a FANTASTIC trip!

You have a dole whip air freshener? I'm intrigued! Where did you get it?

Overrated for us:

Character Meets
Illuminations

in Mouse Gear there is a mickey bar, turkey leg, and dole whip air freshener.. And Mickey decals! I only got the decal though
