Does anybody know at what time the monorail service begins in the morning?

The resort monorail usually starts at 7am. Not sure about the MK express or EPCOT monorails. Their start times probably depend on park opening times.

Operating times for the monorails:

Resort Monorail: 0700 to 2 hrs after the MK closes (includes closings for seperate ticket events like the MNSSHP)

Express Monorail: 0830 to 1 hr after the MK closes.

EPCOT Monorail: 0730 to 1.5 hrs after the MK closes.

Do you need to show any ticket to ride on the monorail. We will be arriving late in the day. Thought we could take our non-disney resort transportation and ride the monorail to look at some of the disney resorts. We woun't be using our park hopper tickets until the next day. Do you need to have a valid park ticket (for that day) to ride the monorail?

To ride the resort monorail before MK opening, you'll need resort ID. Otherwise you're fine.
