Moms to be Part 4

Lauren, I am sorry..not trying to scare you. I had a not great experience with my first, because they caught my pre-eclampsia too late and I have no recollection of his birth because of the meds they had me on. PLENTY of my friends had mild forms and were fine....I just am sensitive to this, because I would hate for anyone else to go through it...

No worries about scaring me.. There is nothing that anyone can say to scare me more than ‘googleing’ preeclampsia... I swear, the internet can be a terrifying source of information :) But in all seriousness, I appreciate the information. I know that things can't be 'that' bad or I would still be in the hospital. I just have to relax so I don't end up back there for about 8 more weeks!

My OB actually told me to stay off the internet. I was (and still am at some level) convinced that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. I am actually envious of our mothers who were able to blissfully go through pregnancy without all of the unnecessary information and worries we have. Yes, knowledge is power but I also think sometimes we "know" too much. My mom had 4 kids, my grandmother had 11 and neither of them can understand why we stay away from lunch meat and tuna ;)

I'm ready for this baby to be here! For the past week I've been having fairly intense crampy contraction feelings *every* time I pee, which is all the time. My lower back is not as stiff as it was, but my pelvis still hurts and feels sore all the time, and sometimes that migrates into my upper thighs also. It feels like the baby's head is wedged in there and that contributes to my waddle. :lmao: Thankfully my prescription for heartburn takes the edge off, but it's still there. A few evenings I've begged my husband to take his turn "sitting on the egg" for even just five minutes. :rotfl: Carrying a baby is rough on your body, and I'll be excited to have some ownership over mine again - standing on one leg to put on socks or shoes or pants, sleeping on my tummy, etc. But mostly I'm just excited to meet my baby, discover whether I have a girl or boy, and enjoy spending the summer getting to know him/her with DH. :goodvibes

I saw on your BC thread that you went on TSM - how was that pg? I've heard other people warn about nausea on that type of ride while pg, but wasn't sure.

I know you asked Vettechick this but I went on it in Jan when I was there and didn't feel any nausea. In fact...we went on it multiple times because it was sooo much fun!!:3dglasses

I'm sorry you're not able to sleep well! I've never had RLS but couldn't imagining having normal pregnancy problems AND the RLS. How annoying! I hope your doc would be somewhat sympathetic and try to help you come up with a solution...or change your iron!

I haven't been nauseated since my first trimester, so TSM didn't bother me. But it is pretty jerky!

And anyone who has RLS, make sure it isn't the Benadryl you may take to sleep. There is a link between the two. I stopped taking it (I take Unisom now if I need some help) and the RLS has stopped.

Well that is interesting. I didn't know Benedryl was linked to RLS. But I rarely take it so I don't think it's the source of my troubles. I did take one last night though, cuz my belly was itching so bad... and I knew it would make me sleepy. So at least I slept well from 10 to 1... :)

(Ok, which ride is TSM??? And why can't I figure it out?!)

I understand your pain. I constantly feel like my baby's head is resting on either side of my pelvis. I've never been more aware of where exactly the bones are, but now I am! I am also a tummy sleeper and I miss it!! I find myself waking up in the middle of the night rolled as far toward my tummy as I can...with my arms under my dead asleep! I'm glad I'm not the only one going through the "Are we there yet?" stage.

Toy Story Mania...at least that's what I'm thinking it is and what I was referring to!

I took Benadryl a lot my first trimester and my RLS was awful! Then when I started sleeping better naturally I stopped taking it and my legs miraculously felt better. Then one night I took one to sleep and I thought I was going to go crazy. Finally looked it up and figured it out. Hope this info helps someone sleep better! Unisom is safe in pg and doesn't have the same RLS effect. But only take a half of one to start - they are pretty strong!

Ooh, you are getting so close! I hope you get to meet your little surprise soon! :goodvibes

Good to know about TSM, and the RLS. Do you know which ingredient in Benadryl causes RLS? I rarely take Benadryl, so I wonder if one of the ingredients in Zyrtec or Singulair is having the same effect on me...

Oh Awesome ride. I don't think I would've even thought of it making a person sick, and I hate spinny rides. :)

I'm definitely going to look into that. I've been really stingy w/ letting myself take the Ambien because I don't want to become dependent.

I never thought of that ride making anyone sick either. I think I was too busy having fun though! I loved that ride, it's one of my favorite non-coaster rides :goodvibes

Hi ladies. It's been a while since I posted here. We had an u/s on Monday and saw the baby and heart beat. We heard the heart beat too. It was 111 bpm on Monday and they were measuring me at 6 weeks and 1 day so that moves my EDD to 12/12. As of Wednesday night my pregnancy symptoms keep on coming and going. It's slightly worrying me since I've never been pregnant before and don't know what to expect but I googled it and a Lot of women are saying this is perfectly normal. That the pregnancy symptoms come and go in waves all throughout the 1st trimester. Did any of you experience this? I feel like you all are so much further along that me and I'm jealous LOL. I want to be able to feel my baby move so I know it's ok. My next OB appointment isn't until 5/25. so far away!!! The NP I saw on Tuesday said we should be able to hear the h/b through the doppler by then. I've read/heard you can hear it by 9 weeks. I'm seriously considering renting a home doppler so I can hear it for myself before my appt on the 25th. Do any of you use a home doppler? Did it put your mind at ease or did it make you more stressed?

Welcome!! The first trimester is so whacky. Queasiness was definitely an off-on thing for me. The only things that were constant were the breast tenderness and having to pee so often at night!

I have not rented a doppler and would not. It would stress me out too much. As long as you are having symptoms you are ok.

I am not a good person to be on bed rest. It’s sad that I was ecstatic to go to the doctor’s office today just to get out of the house. We got to the doctor’s office/hospital at about 7:45 this morning and had no idea how long we would be there… it turned out we didn’t leave until a little after 11.
We had to drop off my 24 hour urine sample to the lab and they then informed me that I needed to stay for blood work. I had no clue that I would need to blood work done and needed to go register for my ultrasound and stress test for myself and the baby. I asked the receptionist if I could leave my urine with them and come back.:rotfl: They laughed and told me yes. I went and registered for my other tests and then went up to the other office. I asked the receptionist there if I should have the blood work done before or after the other tests. She told me that I should go ahead and have the blood work done first because if I didn’t do well on the other tests I might not be able to come back to do the blood work because they’d send me back to triage or to be admitted…. That is not what you want to hear before a stress test!:scared1:
To make a very long story short I flunked my stress test, but the baby passed hers. She also measured right where she should be on the ultrasound and is measuring in the 50th percentile, which was a huge relief to me.
I now get to go and have these tests done every week. I’m not looking forward to continuing this, but would do ANYTHING to make sure that everything is okay with the baby.
Hope everyone else is doing well and looking forward to a nice weekend!

My symptoms definitely were sporadic for most of the 1st trimester and even parts of the 2nd. There are days when I feel so pregnant, and days when I don't feel it at all.

I don't use a home doppler either, because I would get too worried if I couldn't find the hb, or any fluctuations, etc etc.

What a relief that the baby is doing so well! At least with weekly appointments, you can look forward to leaving the house once a week! :rotfl2:

So what is everyone doing this weekend?

I'm just trying to make it through the weekend to Tuesday for the big u/s  The outdoor mall near us is having a spring concert series on Saturday nights, and I think it is close enough to the kids' play area that I should be able to hear the music while Alex is playing. Other than that, no big plans, just getting ready for our upcoming vacation. Maybe some house cleaning.

Welcome Leger13!

Well ladies, I got a form letter from my OB's office today telling me I'm anemic. Well, DUH!! I could've told them that w/o the blood test. All the symptoms are there. The problem is, I normally take an iron supplement (even when not pregnant) but the form letter didn't take that into account and says I should take 50-65 mg twice per day... uh, is that in addition to the one I already take? So now I have to wait until next week to call them and ask. 50-60mg twice per day seems like a LOT of iron... my regular supplement only has 45mg....

Anyone have any experience with Floradix? Only problem with it is that it's only 10mg iron per dose.... and it's expensive. But I hear it works very well.

The only good news is that I passed the glucose tolerance test... And they said my B12 is "OK" (I have chronic low b12) but they didn't tell me the number... so I'm guessing it's "OK" in the low end... I love my OB... but seriously, he's got nothing on my PCP when it comes to vitamins and minerals. sigh. I'm almost ready to call PCP and ask him to look at my labs.

Just wanted to mention that I am anemic as well and had to up my daily iron dosage to 2 pills per day - I use the FE - slow acting and take one in am and one in pm - the only concern my doctor mentioned with taking two per day is that it may lead to constipation - so load up on fluids, and green leafies...:rolleyes1

Wow - what a crappy weekend! I woke up this past Wednesday morning not feeling real great and one of my eyes was all matted and yucky. So I was able to get into my doctor on Thursday who felt like it was some type of viral thing. So he told me to take tylenol and sudafed as needed. Well I did take it, not as often as I could but I would take it first thing in the morning, mid-afternoon and bedtime. I hate taking stuff pregnant....even when they say it's safe. So I stay home from work both Thursday and Friday and spent that entire time and the weekend in bed worthless. Well Sunday morning I woke up and I just felt worse and had an earache to go with it too.....so I caved and went to urgent care. Turns out that although it may have started as viral the doctor said sometimes these things progress and end up bacterial....oh and I now have an ear infection too. So he gave me antibiotics and an antibiotic eye ointment too. So started all that yesterday. Last night I slept better than I had in several days and woke up once and could actually breathe (it was short-lived) and now I'm at work. This has just really zapped me. UGH!! I'm so ready to feel like a human again. Even before getting sick I was so stinking exhausted and nauseaus all the time. Yes, I'm complaining, but it's totally worth it. The nausea does seem to have subsided some....the only time I've really had to deal with it the past week is when I got to long and end up super hungry before eating....then I feel horrible. Sorry to be such a downer.....just needed to vent.

Ugh. I wondered when you said your eye was all gookey if it had gotten to the pink eye stage. :( I really feel for you as everytime I get a viral cold I end up w/ a bacterial infection. My sinuses just don't drain right or something.

Feel better soon. I know how much it sucks to work when you feel like snot.
