Moms to Be Part 3

I went in for my glucose test today with an empty stomach and straight from there I had my appointment with the ob. Although her secretary is the one who told me that I don't have to fast, she asked if I ate anything before the test and I said no. Her response was "good girl! eating beforehand raises your risk of a false positive".....then why not tell me that over the phone? :confused3 Either way - I'm glad it's over with and I'm glad I fasted for it. Now we keep our fingers crossed that I passed - I HATE the thought of the 3 hour test!

I have an update on Adi - I hate to step on her toes, but you guys are worried about her, so I hope she doesn't mind! I copied this from her facebook page. She mentioned having a hard time getting to her computer, and updated this from her phone.

Isabel was officially born on Friday October 16th at 12:13pm. She weighed in at 7lbs 9oz and was 20.5 in...ches long. More to come soon!! Thanks for all the love everyone!! Read More

Welcome little Isabel! Congrats Adi!!

Regading the glucose test, if the dr says to fast then I would, but if not then I would eat as normal. I would think that if you take it upon yourself to fast before the test then you may get a false negative if you are in fact borderline to begin with. I'd rather know for sure one way or the other based on my dr's standards. And each dr does have his/her own standards, at least in terms of what number they use as their cutoff, and clearly with regards to fasting.

We finally got home pretty late last night, after our fight was delayed awhile. Luckily though both kids slept the whole flight and actually weren't bad about going to bed when we got home. Both kids have congested coughs so I kept them home from school today (plus they both woke up late with getting in late and the time change), but now I have to take them both with me on the metro to get my car back from the dealer (it was getting repaired for that broken seat while we were gone), which isn't really ideal, but oh well. I could in theory drop them off at school, but there was just a reported case of swine flu so I'm not super eager to take them back there anyway.

We are pretty sure that the doctor is off on our date by at least a week, so we might save you from being next.

As it was explained to us, the reason that the 1-hour test has such a high percentage of false positives is to ensure that all borderline cases were sent for the 3-hour test. While eating a snickers as you walk into the doctor's office may certainly cause you to 'fail' the GCT, fasting prior to the test wouldn't cause a person who should fail to pass.

Remember, the test is a gauge of how quickly your body processes the sugar that you are given at the start of the test. Eating prior may possibly add sugar to the end, thereby skewing the result, but it could not take away from that sugar that you drink at the start of the test.

I'm happy to be at the top haha I can't wait for this little boy to get here. He's been measuring big the past few doctors appointments and so I'm hoping that I won't actually make it to my due date. Been having a few contractions here and there...some painful, but nothing amounting to anything big.

Unfortunately Evan has been given strict orders from his grandma and grandpa to stay put until the 30th of October because they will be in Disney World all next week! Lets see if he listens:rotfl:

Congratulations Adi!!! Can't wait to hear all about baby Isabel entering the world!!!

Quick question... I know there are conflicting feelings about putting a bumper on the crib. What have you all done? Bumper or no bumper?

I just can't quit this thread :rotfl:

Anyway, I put a bumper in my son's crib and I haven't had any problems. The first month and a half he slept in a sleep positioner in the crib so it wasn't an issue and now when he's in there he's at a point where he can almost roll over on his own so I am not too worried about it even though the "experts" say you shouldn't have one. Plus once he is asleep he doesn't move at all, he sleeps like a rock so I don't think there's any huge risk of him suffocating. But I say do what you feel comfortable with. Once your baby is born if you feel like they move a lot and you think the bumper isn't a good idea then you can take it off till they get older.

It sounds like you and Cathy are in the same boat. Sarah's been measuring big, but we've just assumed that it was because the doc was off on his dates. (We've tried to explain that it is simply impossible for him to be correct, but he doesn't listen.)

Cathy has been having contractions pretty frequently. Some of them are pretty uncomfortable and wear her out pretty good.

In our childbirth class, there was a woman who was about a month ahead of us. She was the one person in class who was determined to deliver without any help for the pain. She also claimed that her BH were no big deal; very mild discomfort and no pain. Cathy hates her.

We have the bumper in the crib, but we aren't fully invested in it. It may be taken out before the baby goes in.

The bumper is really cute. I kinda hope we end up using it. Cathy searched far and wide for the complete Starlight Mickey set. It was discontinued in 2006, so you can imagine the drama around finding the complete set, new.

I think the quotes got messed up BUT I was told not to fast.

I ate M&Ms all morning (studying for a midterm) and went in to take my test. I passed.

Like Justine said, every doctor is different and every doctor goes by different rules... bunches of "he said"/"she said"/"well MY Dr. said" goes on during pregnancy and at the end of the day I don't think anyone is going to get the same answer all the time. :thumbsup2

I have a bumper in Piglet's crib and have since he was born. I took it off once to get it cleaned and he got his leg and arm caught in the crib and woke me up SCREAMING. So I've never gone a night without the bumper since then... he rolls in his sleep and I'm scared he'll get his head stuck or get an arm stuck again and hurt himself trying to get free.

Patsy, like you with the M&Ms, I think I said I had a grande Starbucks frap and a Starbucks muffin, then went immediately to the lab, had my sugary orange drink, passed the test without an issue. I asked my dr about it when I went for my next appt and he laughed (at what I said ate right before the test), said my glucose level was fine, and then said unless I was really borderline to begin with then it's not an issue.

With fasting though, wouldn't it lower your initial sugar level, thereby allowing your body to process the sugary drink better than if you had eaten?

FWIW, my SIL's OB doesn't even do the glucose test on young, thin pregnant women at all. Never. So when her 2nd child was over 9lbs (1st was 7lbs and change) she asked him to do the glucose test with her 3rd. He said it wasn't necessary but gave her the lab slip anyway and she was totally fine, which he said proved his point. Seems weird to me, but apparently he is satisfied with the results he has seen thus far.

The bumper thing, we had them on the crib with both kids, but with my son I did have to take them off but not till he was 15 months when he used them to climb out of the crib. Once I took them off he was able to stay in the crib another couple of months till we had his room and bed set up, but he was using them to stand on and get that couple of inches he needed to propel himself out.

I will add though that prior to that, when my son was I guess around 5-6 months old, he would roll to the sides of the crib and bury his head in the bumpers which was a little scary. Even with that, when we do eventually get this one in a crib (which won't be till at least 6 months simply cause we'll be moving then and I am not setting up the crib here only to take it down and move it), we will have bumpers on there.

Hey guys!!
I haven't been on in soo long I've been sooo sick every day and ended up with the swine flu a few weeks ago  But other then all that I'm doing good. So now that I'm getting farther along I've been looking for diaper bags and have no luck :confused3 I was wondering what kinda of bags have you all been getting or looking at? Any ideas? Hope everyone is doing great :flower3:

sbell, I would love to see pics of your nursery! We couldn't find a Mickey theme that we were crazy about, so we went with dragons instead. Starlight Mickey sounds so cute!

Arubio, I had the same issue with diaper bags, I got a Harvey Seatbelt bag though, and I loooove it! It matches my purse and wallet so I don't feel like its screaming diaper bag when I carry it.

We don't have a bumperpad yet, my mom is still working on it. But, Connor is sleeping in a Moses basket in our room right now so its not a big deal. I have no issue using it when its done and he moves to the crib, but Chris feels differently, we shall see who wins.

Hi there! I'm Lauren (28). My husband and I have been ttc for about 9 months. I just saw the glorious double lines on 5 home pregnancy tests this morning! :goodvibes
Obviously I haven't been able to have this confirmed by my doctor yet, but I will be making an appointment tomorrow. I had to share this news with someone besides my husband and we don't want to tell family and friends until we know for sure and it's a bit 'safer'.
Based on a due date calculator, we should be welcoming a little one around June 28..... We are obviously SUPER excited! :dance3:

Welcome and congrats Lauren!

Arubio - How terrible that you've been so sick. I have another cold and feel miserable, I can't even imagine the swine flu right now. I wanted to get vaccinated for it tomorrow, but now that I have a cold I don't think I can get the vaccine till I am better.

I forgot to mention that all of my kids have measured big and been big at birth, but their due dates were right on target, according to my LMP/ovulation date. With this one I know I ovulated early, so pretty much exactly when she was conceived (unlike the 1st two kids, we were actually trying for this one and I was temping, charting, using the CBE monitor, etc.). Plus my cycles were 26-27 days prior to this conception, not the 28 days they were with the other 2 kids. So I actually just bumped my LMP date by 2 days when I went to the OB cause I knew that using the standard 28 day cycle would be slightly off for this baby.

However, my OB will only change due dates if the discrepancy is over 2 weeks. So with my other kids, even though they measured big, they were less than 2 weeks ahead up through 16 weeks so my due date remained the same. Funny though cause with my son, he was so large that even though he was due August 29th, my last ultrasound at 35 weeks put his due date at August 8th. With him, I *knew* the date he was conceived as my husband was out of town for nearly 2 months with interviews, so there was no mistaking my dates with him. He was born exactly 8 months to the day after he was conceived.

Woohoo!! I am in double digits!! 99 days to go!!!

I am having an inner conflict with myself today. Okay, so my current "baby" is 10 years old, so needless to say, all of our baby stuff is loooooong gone. Tomorrow the local Mothers of Multiples group is having their rummage sale. My conflict is, I have absolutely NOTHING going on tomorrow. So, I could sleep in, which I haven't been able to do in weeks! And the last two nights have been TERRIBLE sleeping for me (Stepdaughter has had a terrible cough, and the mother in me stays awake listening to it, wondering if I should give her something else for it! So I am up all night listening to her!). Or, do I go to the sale (starts at 8 am) hoping to get some good baby stuff for good prices? What to do, what to do!!!
