Mommy...Why does Crush talk like you? Final thoughts and summary 10/15

Great update! I am totally with you about the strollers! :headache: Travel light is always my motto and that included strollers!

Thanks for your honest retellings of It's a Bug's Life -- I was thinking we would go this trip, but since DD freaked out when there was a spider in the bathroom tonight, DH has an aversion to roaches, and neither myself nor DS are exactly big fans of bugs, we will now be skipping it. Which is definitely okay with me, because that will free up time for other things at AK that I know we like (like Expedition Everest and Dinosaur)! :thumbsup2

It's Tough To Be A Bug.... People wonder why I'm scared of grasshoppers in such! Well, they haven't witnessed the terror, the scary special effects I was SCREAMING, tearing at the seat and started sobbing right then and there that I never wanted to come in EVER again. Well, every trip my parents always say... Aww, it won't be scary at all! Just like Snow White's SCARY Adventures?!??!?!?!?! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I'm even afraid of the Haunted Mansion and ToT because of the twilight zone part.

Am I the only person who HATES any of these rides?

My kids loved everything except ITTBAB. ToT is Brianna's Favorite ride.

I love this TR so far!! I want to see her in that gorgous minnie outfit!!! Who made that fabulous Set!!! :rotfl:

This awesome lady I met on the disBoutique board made it. Maybe you've met her? She has two adorable little girls, and sells on eBay. :rotfl2: More pics next update.

The one and only time I saw ITTBAB..I cried and jumped into Jim's lap when they did the part about remaining in your seats:scared1:

Yeah, I hated it, too. BUt I was at least distracted byt he fact that I was trying to get Spencer out of his catatonic state.

Great update!! LOL about the strollers! Makes me so glad we stayed at the Poly AND had our car - used the monorail or drove wherever we went. We had a mid-sized stroller and an umbrella stroller. One bag of stuff and a small soft-sided cooler in the basket of the mid-size. If there was a crowd at the monorail (only once), we just waited for the next. I am ITA about those using strollers and not preparing them IN ADVANCE. Hello? How about common courtesy. I thought the 2 strollers, 2 bags essentially and 2 kids would be too much for DH and I to handle on the busses, so we just never used them. I never wanted to be struggling to hang onto everything or taking up a ton of space, crashing into others, etc. The monorail is heaven, LOL!

I understand that, expecially if you have a lot of kids, sometimes you have a lot of stuff, but it was the people with ONE baby and more stuff than a bag lady that got me. the monorail WAS better for the strollers, and the boats were worse.

I thought it STANK!!

Travel light is a good motto. :thumbsup2 I try to stick with it, too, though I ALWAYS pack too much for WDW. This year we had two big checked bags and 4 carryons for the FOUR of us! too much! Usually, we have two carry-on sized checked bags and two carryons MAX.

Chapter 14: The Rest of a Long Day in the Animal Kingdom......

We walked over to the Yak and yeti for lunch. We had ADR’s for the table service part of the restaurant. I went up to the podium and was told to go back to the doorway and check in with the girl lounging by the door....oooookay.

I had to get in line to wait to check in. The five groups ahead of me had no ADRs and were being given cards to wait. Apparently, Yak and Yeti is still accepting walk-ins, who will be seated in available seats after the people with ADRs are seated. I checked in, and was given a card to give to the people at the podium. I was also told to tell them I had an ADR. I did, and was told to wait.

The four people ahead of me in the line who had been walk-ins got seated while we sat there and waited (so much for seating the people who had bothered to make ADRs first). Finally, we were brought to a table and given our menus.

Our waitress came and took our drink orders, and we ordered an appetizer. She brought us our drinks and we ordered our meals. I don’t remember what everyone else drank, but I had the Monk’s Blend Hot tea, and it was excellent.

While we were waiting for food, I snapped these pics:

I’m in a GOOD mood, Mommy!!

The kids were both in moods. At on point, I snapped this pic of Brianna:

DSCN1041-1.jpg

Oh, yeah, I mean Brianna’s CHAIR, because she was by the bathrooms sitting in a chair they have there, and being made to look at a wall with Daddy.

Our lettuce cups came and HHBG and Brianna came back. The lettuce cups were OK, but they really chintzed on the lettuce. There weren’t enough cups for the food to go into them. Why do they do that?? Lettuce is frigging cheap!

After another while, our food came. What we got:

Me: Pho. - It was HUGE!!! Like, enough Pho for my family to all eat and still have leftovers! It was OK Pho, but like I said, HUGE. It wasn’t very flavorful, probably to accommodate its huge size. Pho is usually very fragrant and a bit of an odd tasting meal, best in small portions. I was turned off by the size of my meal. I even took a picture, and I don’t take food pics.

DSCN1048-1.jpg

HHBG got the Beef and broccoli. He said it was “Ok at best”. It was VERY americanized chinese food, and the beef they used was low quality. HHBG’s notes in my notes say it was “strip mall quality” He said he WISHED it was as good as Golden Panda Wok or whatever that place is called.

The kids both got the chicken nuggets and Jello. Brianna got the Fried Rice,a dn Spencer got the Applesauce. They both barely ate anything, but it was OK, since the jellos and applesauce were in pre-packaged containers. I tossed them into the CARGOES OF HOLDING +1 for later.

Over all, Our meal was a solid “Meh”. It wasn’t BAD, it just wasn’t GOOD either. The ethnic food was very Americanized, and not very flavorful. I would say it was one of our worse meals of the week.

One note about this restaurant: don’t go there for a quick meal. The service was SLOW. We waited forever for drink refills, we finished our drinks before the appetizer came, and were long done with our appetizers before the food came. Then we were long done with our food before we got the checks. It was a long afternoon with grumpy kiddos.

After lunch, the kids wanted to go on the water ride, but the line was 60 minutes long, and they were pretty grumpy, so we decided to just go ride Killiminjaro Safaris and go back to the room.

We always enjoy Killiminjaro safaris. The kids love the animals, especially Spencer. The ride was slightly marred by the teenaged guys asking loud and obnoxious questions, which led tot he ride being shorter than usual, but the kids enjoyed it, so it was all good.

After we got off of KS, Spencer mentioned that since AK day was HIS day, he wanted his toy for the week. We said ok, and went into a little store (I forget which one). Brianna, of course, immediately honed in on a baby Simba stuffed toy, and would not let go of it. Spencer wandered around for a while, and ended up getting a bunch of Schleif animal figurines for his collection at home.

We ended up caving and getting Brianna the Simba, and we were on our way out of the park. On the bus heading back, Brianna revealed a blister on her foot. DOH!! It wasn’t a bad blister, but she NEEDED a bandaid. I pulled one out of the COH+1, and she was fine.

Everyone on th bus coming from AK was grumping about how poorly designed that park is. It ruins the magic. This is a small sampling of some of my notes from that day:

1: “The Civil engineering team that designed this park should be black-balled from the industry”

2. “I don’t know about ZZUB’s assertion that this park was designed to be hotter, but it was certainly designed to make your blood boil, as evidenced by their poor trail design and crowd flow management.”

ANYWAY!!

Once we got back to the room, we tried to get the kids to nap, since they had been up late the night before, and it was looking to ba another late night with an early wake up the next day.

My notes say:

“All of this arguing, whining, grumping, and disobedience is really getting old.....I wish they would just go to sleep already”

I think it was a rough day. Hopefully it would get better, after all, we were going and getting us some fancy FRENCH food that night!!

Coming Soon: HHBG makes Angela VERY HAPPY

The look on Brianna's face is hysterical! :rotfl2:
I'm sure at the time you weren't too amused!

What exactly is Pho? It looks like someone puked before their food digested...........

As much as I love AK, I have to agree that the design is awful! It feels like you are constantly back tracking............and in my case, getting lost!

Hmmmm, what could HHBG do to make you so happy???;)

You are not the first review I have read that said the food was eh...ALthough the CS pace is getting good reviews!:confused3

Just remember that this is a family board:rolleyes1 popcorn::

Hmmm...I've never had Pho. I'm guessing it is either Korean or Vietnamese? The Asian foods I'm familiar with are Chinese, Japanese and Thai, basically. I've only recently started seeing Korean and Vietnamese restaurants crop up, but haven't been to any yet.

And, I have to admit, I prefer my Chinese food at least to be somewhat Americanized. I got some reports from a friend who visited China that were sounding a little, well, unappetizing. But, sounds like Yak & Yeti is something to skip, tho I suppose they are still in their shakeout phase.

Looking forward to hearing about a good part of the trip!

That's exactly what I was thinking Janet! :thumbsup2

Sounds like lunch wasn't exactly spectacular. I think we might try the counter service place in October, but it will depend on the kids.

Great update, Angela!:thumbsup2

Pho is a vietnamese soup. It's a fish-based broth with shellfish, bean sprouts, and some other veggies. It's a bit odd to westerners because of the fish broth, but I think it's good....it just takes a little while to get used to.

Get your mind out of the gutter. We went to FRANCE!! It happened there.

Vietnamese.

I like americanized Chinese food too, but I was hoping it was a little less americanized than it was. Like NYC-Chinatown-tourist-joint americanized, not lousy-Midwest-Chinese-chain-buffet americanized.

Dirty mind. :sad2:

I have no urge to go anywhere near Chinese food or the like in Disney, I'm spoiled by China Town in NYC and in Brooklyn. Oh well.

So a nice peaceful rest then :rotfl:

In PUBLIC:scared1: :lmao:

Pho sounds yummy - I'll have to try it some time.

Well, midwestern Chinese food has a pretty big range. Dh and I went to a pretty scary place recently, but other than that, we usually get pretty good food at our favorite places. But, the best stuff is in Chinatown - Chicago has two, actually. For some reason, I only end up ever going to Chinatown (either one) for dim sum.

Chapter 13: Who designed this park anyway??

Finally the show was over. We were carrying two very unhappy children, and our fast passes weren’t up for KS. We decided to go on Dinosaur!, because, you know, we hadn’t scared the kids enough for one day. :rolleyes1

The kids both really enjoyed Dinosaur!, so it was all good. Then, since there was no line, we went on Triceratops spin. Oh, and look who was in line with us:

Coming soon: Does the Yak and Yeti live up to it’s name???

We have never been on Dinosaur. Is it a scary ride? Is it like a roller coaster?

I have had a few questions form people asking em about the origins of "Peeps".

I am an avid reader of Jordanyosh's PTr and TR,a nd would consider myself his friend. Jordan is Japanese-American, and as part of his trips, he likes to quietly blend in with Asian tour groups at WDW and unobtrusively take a picture with them. He calls Asian tourists his "peeps", and we, the readers of his PTR and TR have also come to call them "peeps" which is short for "Jordan's peeps".

Before I lef ton this trip, Jordan requested that I take a few "peeps pics" on my trip, and out of my friendship for him, I have done so.

I would prefer if you keep the "racially insensitive" PMs to yourselves.

It's very bouncy. It's on these self-contained vehicles that really jerk around. I didn't think it was very scary, but it had dark parts. It had a few parts that can feel liek a rollercoaster, but it was OK.

Yeah, I'm spoiled, too. But it was the NEW restaurant, and I wanted to try it.

:rotfl2:

Yeah, it was a long morning. Things get less pissy soon. :)

I NEED MORE PICTURES!!! hahahahhaha:rotfl: :rotfl:

LOL. I haven't got any more pics in that outfit. It was a rough morning.

In Chicago, you can get some good Chinese, and ina lot of the rest of the midwest. I was being food snobby and talkig about the small-town-strip-mall "chinese" joints.

Sorry to hear about the not wanting to go to sleep children... I hate that too :(

Also sorry to hear people been buggin ya bout the peeps.... :confused3 I didn't get it at first myself... on his report and then I was like... ohhh ok... and now it's awesome :) everytime I see Japanese-American tourists here... I think... peeps!! yay! We have jordy to thank for that eh
