Mommy...Why does Crush talk like you? Final thoughts and summary 10/15

Chapter 12: the great Wake-up and “Didn’t we eat this last year??”

Here’s the song I was thinking of.....http://www.bobrivers.com/player/player.asp?atype=tunes&ID=619&Speed=4

I love Bob Rivers....

Ok, putting away nerd identification card....:3dglasses

ANYWAY!!

OK, a reminder...we had hustled back to the room from Epcot and I had a migraine to kill a horse. As we start this chapter, I am asleep. :faint:

At about a quarter to five in the evening....three hours after we got back to the room, by the way....HHBG gently woke me up and asked if I wanted to get up for dinner, or if I just wanted him to go get counter service food for him and the kids. I woke up feeling ok, so I decided I wanted some Flying Fish.

I went and popped back into the shower to get my standing-straight-up bed-head hair back under control, and HHBG woke up the little girl and got her dressed. It was the kids’ first night in the kids’ club, so we walked them over a little early so we could fill out all of the paperwork, and get the kids used to the people there.

What a waste of time.

Why, you ask??

Well, we got there, and the kids TOOK OFF. Brianna was off playing with the Butterscotch horse they had, and Spencer was on the computer before we had even been handed the paperwork. We filled it out, and had to chase the kids down for goodbye kisses. Trust me, you could FEEL the love.

HHBG and I hopped a cab and were off to the Boardwalk. Last year, the Flying Fish Café was HHBG’s favorite restaurant, and it was one of the only restaurants we decided to repeat.

We got seated in the back because it was pretty crowded, and we started to look at the menu. We knew for certain that we were goign to get the cheese plate as a post-dinner, before-dessert dish, but we wanted to see what they had before we made any other decisions.

While we were perusing the menu, I took these pics of HHBG:

And the other eyebrow:

At Flying Fish, if you don’t know, they are willing to take any order you make, and split it onto two plates in the kitchen, so it’s like both people at the table are getting a half order. This saved us havign to split at the table, and it was pretty. Also, it’s like a make-your-own tasting, which I love.

This was what we ended up ordering:

Appetizer: Tuna tartare
Drink with appetizer: Tattinger Champagne

Entree 1: Scallops
Entree 2: potato wrapper red snapper
dinner drink: Pinot Noir (It was Australian, and I forget the vineyard)

post dinner plate: Cheese plate
drink with cheese: Port, sherry, and Madeira tasting flight

my dessert: Strawberry dessert
HHBG’s dessert: Cheesecake
dessert drink: Cappucino (we needed something to sober us up)

Overall, it was another A+ awesome meal. HHBG says it was the best meal he had all week.

Our server was Mo from Morocco, if you go. He was attentive and awesome.

Hmmm......I use the word “awesome” a lot....almost as much as I say “Dude”....sometimes, I use them together, like “dude, that was awesome!”......

ANYWAY!!!!

As we were waiting onthe check, HHBG and I were talking about our meals. We were commenting on how good our food was both times we were at FFC, when HHBG said, "you know....I think we had the exact same dinner last year, too...."

I think he was right, too. :rolleyes1

Oh well, either way, it was awesome.....I mean fantastic.

After dinner, we waddled our liquored selves over to the Wyland gallery. Now, we KNEW this was a bad move. HHBG and I have a weakness for good art. Last year, we bought a gorgeous painting from this gallery. We knew there was a good chance HHBG’s job wouldn’t survive the merger, and dropping four figures on art was a bad idea, and we also knew that if we went there we were most likely goign to buy something, BUT WE WENT ANYWAY!!

This is a really lousy picture of the piece we bought last year:

DSCN1200.jpg

And another piece we bought through the Wyland gallery in Las Vegas....yeah, we’re weak.

DSCN1198.jpg

Well, we went in there, and walked around and there was a huge brand new Tim Cotterill frog sculpture on a table. It was GORGEOUS. I HAD to have it. But, I knew we were trying NOT to spend money. I was willing to walk away.....

Now, for those of you who don’t know me, I have a love affair with frogs. NOT the cutesy frogs, but the nice arty frogs, and realistic frogs. I have a frog tattoo behind my left ear. My drawer and cabinet pulls in the kitchen are frogs. I already have four sculptures by Tim Cotterill, “the frogman”. I have a frog climbing a blade of grass on my mantle, and see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil frogs (the see no evil, etc frogs and monkeys a re a big thing with HHBG and I...long story I may tell separately). Trust me, if you have been to a gallery, you know who I am talking about. He does the brass and enamel frog sculptures. (I'll try to get some decent pics of our frogs later!!)

HHBG knew I wanted the piece. he knows about my love of frogs. He saw that I couldn't keep my eyes off of the sculpture. he saw that I kept walking past it. Now, he liked it too, but he knew I coveted it, and was only walking away because we were trying to save as much as possible before he got fired.

So, he bought it for me...as my late birthday/anniversary gift.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Here it is on our window seat in the Dining room....the table is covered with D&D parepanalia right now.

At that point, it was determined that we had lightened our wallets enough, and we needed to get back, so we caught another cab back to the resort to go get the kids.

When we went to pick up the kids, they threw the hugest fit EVER. They did NOT want to leave. The only way we got them to go back tot he room was to promise that they were coming back the following day...so much for our concerns that they wouldn’t like the kids club.

We got back to the room, chose outfits for the following day, brushed teeth, and went to bed. We had another big day coming up....

Coming Soon: WHO DESIGNED THIS FRIGGING PARK!?!?!

These pieces are in our living room. Original art. BTW, I have a 120 year old victorian. :rotfl2:

I read this and had to go back, i thought why would he be writing a book about his fiance?

:worried:
i thought this is not nice, i dont think his wife(you) would be to happy about this.

then i read it again and :headache:

yep im a dingbat::yes::

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Btw, just wanted to let you know I'm still out here and following along - just haven't had anything brilliant to add lately. And maybe just a tad bit wishing my own ds had the brilliance to go along with the behavior issues, sigh. Today and tomorrow he has spelling tests reviewing every single spelling word for the entire year - this morning was NOT FUN getting him to school. But, that should be the last hurdle for getting through the school year...

Good luck to him!!

I'm so glad you felt better and got to go to dinner!
Kids are so funny! I've had babysitters that my kids would ignore me the second they walked in the door. It did make the mommy guilt of leaving them alot better!

Flying Fish looks interesting. I'm a little more boring with my food choices.

That's so sweet of hhbg to buy you the frog!:goodvibes

Better that way though!!!

I think he was right, too. :rolleyes1
How funny, it must have been nice then :rotfl2:

So, he bought it for me...as my late birthday/anniversary gift.
How sweet and I really like it, my Mum collects frogs too I know she'd love it :thumbsup2

I think Jimmy would really like the kids club. I think next year when we don't have my nephew with us we may havet to try him there>!

That's a great service. This way you both get to try 2 different things. I will never get Jim into the flying fish, he hates seafood:(

After dinner, we waddled our liquored selves over to the Wyland gallery.

Jim and I love to wander through this place:goodvibes

The originaly frog piece we got for our first anniversary. please ignore the D&D paraphanalia on the table...and to think I took it OFF of the mantle because it was cluttered up there. :sad2:

Flying Fish.........

I'm glad you had a great meal......and guilt free as your children don't seem to miss you all that much....(is that a good thing or bad thing?). I will choose good thing as it allows some important alone time with the DH.

That frog sculpture is great!!!!!!!!!!

The art in your house is really neat...I likey!

I have always wanted to try FF...maybe next time.

I also remember the frog sculpture from walking past the gallery when we were staying at BW!

Good luck to him!!

Thanks - dh got him today, and I haven't heard the report yet.

I do have to say, I LOVE your frog cabinet pulls! My sister is big into frogs and lizards, and I get her cute artsy ones every so often, starting with a Oaxacan wooden carved lizard I found on our honeymoon. (Dh and I got a similar wooden dragon for us. )

Not sure whether to say good job HHBG or not on splurging on the frogs - I always get conflicted when dh enables my splurges.

Update - the spelling test (part 1) went a lot better than ds had feared. He is now a lot less worried about the rest of it, thank goodness. And - a new milestone! Dh took him shopping and then to Culvers. He got his first, "Why can't you behave like that kid over there, he has such good manners?" - and ds was the good example! (Which actually didn't shock me as much as dh - when ds chooses to be well behaved and charming, he can out-manner anyone!)

HHBG review's Flying Fish Cafe:

Ok, ok .... I know what everyone is thinking when they think of Flying Fish - ughh, a fish food joint. We have fish sticks in the freezer at home for the kids. Why do I need to go out to get fish? Why can't we go somewhere else and get real food?

At least - that's what goes through my head. And, I can't be the only person who feels that way about fish places...

Flying Fish cafe is the best restraunt in Disney. It's better than Victoria & Alberts, its better than Bistro d'Paris, it's in a class by itself. I've been there twice. The first time was an awesome meal. When we went back, I was worried that we just got really lucky the first time. However, the second time, with a different waiter, was just as good.

The service is excellent. The wait-staff were real professionals and they bring FFC from being a restraunt with good food to a truly excellent one. They were really good. I never felt that they were intrusive, but every time I thought about looking for our waiter, he was right there. Cups were refilled, he had interesting things to say about each bottle of wine, but it never felt like anyone was hovering around us. Sevice gets an A+ and a 30% tip.

Food was excellent. The cheese plate is not to be missed. A great selection of cheeses with matched wines. If I recommended one item, it would be the cheese plate. The fish, as to be expected, was top notch. Of them, I liked the scallops best. Sauted relatively simply with butter. Awesome. The potato wrapped red snapper is probably the most unique of the dishes. The snapper is wrapped in paper thin strips of potato and cooked on a plank. This keeps the fish moist, and provides a crunchy crust without battering and frying. It's definitely worth trying even if you are so-so on fish (like me).

that place is the devil, the guy working there was following us around and talking to us like we wre going tob uy one of those 10,000 dollar paintings or whatevery price they are, i told him i had to go and tlak it over with the wife, silly old man
:bitelip:

I'm glad the migraine finally released you so you guys could have a nice dinner. That's funny about the kids taking off in the Kids' Club; at least it could be a wonderful guilt-free evening!

I liked HHBG's description of the potato wrapped fish. Any seafood, except clams, is good with me. So sweet about him getting the frog sculpture for you! I would love to have an old house like yours--ours is just 1978 bow-chicka-wow-wow old!

Based on your review (and your DH's) we booked a reservation for Flying Fish Cafe on our upcoming Sept trip. Thanks!! :goodvibes

Glad your migrane subsided!! Looks like your meal in the FF was brilliant,
(as I've heard it always is!), glad you enjoyed yourselves after the ordeal beforehand!
I love the amount of frogs you have in your house, my best friends mum collects them and has nearly as many as you, I'm sure if I was to show her your pictures she'd be very jealous!!!

Byt he way, which hockey team do you root for. i always see your name and think "go Red Wings!" myself. :rolleyes1
Well being from the UK, the hockey that I was referring to in my name was to do with the hockey I play here, which I think you guys call field hockey?! Having said that, I've sort of been watching the Panthers and the Toronto Maple Leafs if they're ever on TV, which is very rarely as they don't show much NHL over here on TV, it's mainly NBA or NFL, so I don't really know the teams that well which sucks :(

Sounds like a great night... :) I love your taste in art work :) Your frogs are awesome... I have a similar obscession... but with dolphins hehe

Glad your migrane went away so you could enjoy a wonderful evening and meal with your hubby! Also, the review on FFC from HHBG almost makes em consider it for a future trip-both DH and I are only so-so about fish, so we avoid the fish joints at WDW...hmmmm...

The food there was great both times we went.

I grew up in a house built in the late 70's, and it had AVOCADO and orange everything. Kitchen, carpet, etc. :rotfl2:

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!!

I had some friends in HS who played Field hockey. It's one of those sports that always eluded me. :confused3

HHBg made me get rid of most of my Kitschyfrogs, because I just wasn't as into them. Now, It's more the arty ones.

Sounds like a great night... :) I love your taste in art work :) Your frogs are awesome... I have a similar obscession... but with dolphins hehe

Thanks! You would LOVe Wyland galleries if you are into Dolphins. They had some awesome ones.

Dude, the fish is GREAT. Of course, i LIKE fish...except for fish sticks. Yech. HHBG likes those, but I can't stand them.
