Chapter 14: The Rest of a Long Day in the Animal Kingdom......
We walked over to the Yak and yeti for lunch. We had ADRs for the table service part of the restaurant. I went up to the podium and was told to go back to the doorway and check in with the girl lounging by the door....oooookay.
I had to get in line to wait to check in. The five groups ahead of me had no ADRs and were being given cards to wait. Apparently, Yak and Yeti is still accepting walk-ins, who will be seated in available seats after the people with ADRs are seated. I checked in, and was given a card to give to the people at the podium. I was also told to tell them I had an ADR. I did, and was told to wait.
The four people ahead of me in the line who had been walk-ins got seated while we sat there and waited (so much for seating the people who had bothered to make ADRs first). Finally, we were brought to a table and given our menus.
Our waitress came and took our drink orders, and we ordered an appetizer. She brought us our drinks and we ordered our meals. I dont remember what everyone else drank, but I had the Monks Blend Hot tea, and it was excellent.
While we were waiting for food, I snapped these pics:
Im in a GOOD mood, Mommy!!
The kids were both in moods. At on point, I snapped this pic of Brianna:
Oh, yeah, I mean Briannas CHAIR, because she was by the bathrooms sitting in a chair they have there, and being made to look at a wall with Daddy.
Our lettuce cups came and HHBG and Brianna came back. The lettuce cups were OK, but they really chintzed on the lettuce. There werent enough cups for the food to go into them. Why do they do that?? Lettuce is frigging cheap!
After another while, our food came. What we got:
Me: Pho. - It was HUGE!!! Like, enough Pho for my family to all eat and still have leftovers! It was OK Pho, but like I said, HUGE. It wasnt very flavorful, probably to accommodate its huge size. Pho is usually very fragrant and a bit of an odd tasting meal, best in small portions. I was turned off by the size of my meal. I even took a picture, and I dont take food pics.
HHBG got the Beef and broccoli. He said it was Ok at best. It was VERY americanized chinese food, and the beef they used was low quality. HHBGs notes in my notes say it was strip mall quality He said he WISHED it was as good as Golden Panda Wok or whatever that place is called.
The kids both got the chicken nuggets and Jello. Brianna got the Fried Rice,a dn Spencer got the Applesauce. They both barely ate anything, but it was OK, since the jellos and applesauce were in pre-packaged containers. I tossed them into the CARGOES OF HOLDING +1 for later.
Over all, Our meal was a solid Meh. It wasnt BAD, it just wasnt GOOD either. The ethnic food was very Americanized, and not very flavorful. I would say it was one of our worse meals of the week.
One note about this restaurant: dont go there for a quick meal. The service was SLOW. We waited forever for drink refills, we finished our drinks before the appetizer came, and were long done with our appetizers before the food came. Then we were long done with our food before we got the checks. It was a long afternoon with grumpy kiddos.
After lunch, the kids wanted to go on the water ride, but the line was 60 minutes long, and they were pretty grumpy, so we decided to just go ride Killiminjaro Safaris and go back to the room.
We always enjoy Killiminjaro safaris. The kids love the animals, especially Spencer. The ride was slightly marred by the teenaged guys asking loud and obnoxious questions, which led tot he ride being shorter than usual, but the kids enjoyed it, so it was all good.
After we got off of KS, Spencer mentioned that since AK day was HIS day, he wanted his toy for the week. We said ok, and went into a little store (I forget which one). Brianna, of course, immediately honed in on a baby Simba stuffed toy, and would not let go of it. Spencer wandered around for a while, and ended up getting a bunch of Schleif animal figurines for his collection at home.
We ended up caving and getting Brianna the Simba, and we were on our way out of the park. On the bus heading back, Brianna revealed a blister on her foot. DOH!! It wasnt a bad blister, but she NEEDED a bandaid. I pulled one out of the COH+1, and she was fine.
Everyone on th bus coming from AK was grumping about how poorly designed that park is. It ruins the magic. This is a small sampling of some of my notes from that day:
1: The Civil engineering team that designed this park should be black-balled from the industry
2. I dont know about ZZUBs assertion that this park was designed to be hotter, but it was certainly designed to make your blood boil, as evidenced by their poor trail design and crowd flow management.
ANYWAY!!
Once we got back to the room, we tried to get the kids to nap, since they had been up late the night before, and it was looking to ba another late night with an early wake up the next day.
My notes say:
All of this arguing, whining, grumping, and disobedience is really getting old.....I wish they would just go to sleep already
I think it was a rough day. Hopefully it would get better, after all, we were going and getting us some fancy FRENCH food that night!!
Coming Soon: HHBG makes Angela VERY HAPPY
