Mom & Son eat the World! 11 days of DDP with tons of pics! Now Complete!

I am so enjoying your reviews. And what a great kid you have! I love that he is eating so many different things instead of the typical kid diet of chicken nuggets and pizza. My little granddaughter is like that; at 4 she loves to try anything we put in front of her (last night it was anchovies...she gave them a thumbs down!!!) and I hope it lasts.

When DS was 9 we paid for him as an adult so he could eat off the regular menu (we did not go for free dining that year). There is no way he would eat chicken nuggets & hot dogs for a week. He doesn't eat a lot of veggies but is getting better. He loves most meats & over the past year has started trying more spicy things and things with sauces.

I hope your granddaughter keeps trying things. DS was great until about 4 then had several years of fussiness. He is just getting back to being open to more things. Although I have to say that even when fussy, he always preferred filet mignon to McD's chicken nuggets!

The cheese plate looks tasty, but I too would have wanted something to go with it ~ some kind of cracker, pita, toast points. Another great review!

I was thinking the same thing as a PP. You are so lucky! I wish my kids would eat a better variety of foods. My dd8 is finally starting to become a bit more adventurous, but not much! My ds4 used to eat anything, but he is now becoming very picky about his meals. It's such a struggle.

Day 5 was Animal Kingdom day. We had an early breakfast at Tusker House with Donald (and ended up on the first Safari Truck! :woohoo: )

I didn't take any pictures of our plates here but did take a few of the buffet

img_1062.jpg

img_1064.jpg

img_1065.jpg

There were a few items other than the usual breakfast buffet stuff. One I had really wanted to try was the spicy corned beef hash with a cornbread topping. I really like both the hash & the cornbread but not together. The pastries were also very good. DS really didn't enjoy his breakfast here. He's not a huge breakfast eater anyway and just did like this one.

We had an early dinner due to AK closing early so we split a meal at Pizzafari. We had the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich served on a multi-grain bun with chips, chocolate cake & water plus we used two snack credits for another bottle of water and Breadsticks - Basket of fresh baked breadsticks topped with cheese and served with marinara sauce.

img_1154.jpg

img_1155.jpg

DS ate most of the sandwich since he didn't really eat breakfast. We both love this sandwich. The breadsticks were wonderful and a great use of a snack credit IMHO. They tasted somewhat like Pizza Hut's which is Ok in my book!

Total cost of the meal - $13.61.
Total cost of the breadsticks & extra water - $6.00 (e)

Dinner was a Yak & Yeti. We read the mixed reviews here & really wanted to try it ourselves. I have to say we were very disappointed and this was probably our worst meal of the trip.

DS has a Berry Cherry Limeade to drink. I enjoyed this more than he did but he's not a real big soda drinker

img_1221.jpg

For starters, we kinda shared 3 ... the Wonton Soup - pork wontons, clear chicken broth and vegetables, the Pork Pot Stickers - pan seared or steamed, soy lime dipping sauce and the Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce

img_1224.jpg

img_1223.jpg

img_1222.jpg

It was freezing in the restaurant and it didn't help that we were wet from Kali so the soup tasted good. It did need a bit of salt. We both enjoyed the dumplings. They are typical chinese restaurant dumplings. I really enjoyed the green beans while they were piping hot. As they cooled down, I thought they got a big soggy.

I didn't even take a picture of my entree, the Stir-Fried Beef and Broccoli - flank steak, broccoli, brown sauce. It was just awful. The meat had a strange texture and a very strong fishy smell and taste. I am guessing someone had a very heavy hand with the fish sauce. I wasn't super hungry so I didn't send it back. Thinking back on it, I really should have.

DS had the Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw

img_1226.jpg

He cut them before I took the picture. He liked these well enough but said he has had better. I ate most of his chicken fried rice and it was just ok as well.

For dessert we had the Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce and Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle. Sorry the pic of the pie is so washed out

img_1228.jpg

img_1227.jpg

Neither of us enjoyed the pie but I did like the wontons. I was so cold at that point though that I didn't eat many. I just wanted to get back out into the sun!

Total cost of the meal -$88.16 (again, yay for the dining plan since we didn't care for this meal)

We paid OOP for the soup - $5.32

AK had EMH so we stayed for a bit and then went back to POP to walk around & swim. We were both hungry so we had Parmesan Crusted Chicken Penne Alfredo w/Breadstick and Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Mixed Greens with two pieces of Tie-dyed Cheesecake, a milk for me and some type of coffee drink for DS.

img_1263.jpg

img_1264.jpg

We both loved our meals! The chicken was crispy and had a surprisingly great flavor. We also really enjoyed the cheesecake.

Total - $31.47

GoofySon'sMom.....thanks for the reviews (I'm enjoying them before I get ready for work...ugh!). Also, wanted to let you know that I am very amused by your son's t-shirts. They are awesome! Did you make them yourself? I also wanted to know where you got the tip envelopes (you mentioned something about Disers), so I wasn't sure. I think they are a great idea, and would totally make them for my upcoming Disneymoon (10 days away!).

Thanks...keep up the great work!

We have still not had a chance to try Yak and Yeti but it actually doesn't sound like we're missing much. Still enjoying your reviews.

still loving the reviews and photos - especially that pretty tie-dyed cheesecake at pop century!

keep them coming!

Great reviews and pics!! :thumbsup2

Cannot wait for the review of the Wave, we are set to eat there in less than two weeks and cannot wait to see some pics and here what you and your son thought about it! :)

Thank you! There is a Creative Disigns Board here on the Dis. I don't know how to post a link, I am sorry! I had tip envelopes for each restaurant and it worked out great. I also got all of our t-shirts designs from the wonderful people on that Board. I wouldn't even know where to begin to create my own designs! I just ironed them on. Definitely check out the Board, there are many great wedding designs! Congratulations! :cloud9:

Thank you. Yeah, I don't know that we will go back. If we do, it will just be for appetizers.

It was so delish! :)

We loved the Wave! I think it is one of our overall favorite meals of the trip! I think that was day 9 so it will be a day or two but I should get to it by the weekend. Are you leaving sooner than that? If so, I could jump out of order.

We don't leave until the 19th, so I can wait patiently! :) Thank you so much though for offering to post it early! :goodvibes

My son ate so many of those chicken alfredo meals last year from the POP foodcourt I thought he was going to turn into one! But it was sooo yummy!

It is slow today at work so I am going to post Day 6 ... I don't have my notes here with the costs so I will have to add that later.

No breakfast scheduled. I used snack credits to get two bottles of water and these ...

Breakfast of Champions! Hey, its vacation, right?

Total cost would have been $13.17

Lunch was at Coral Reef. I am proud to say that I kept the menu and diver a secret for over 180 days!

img_1310.jpg

DS was so surprised! Everyone in the restaurant clapped, it was very cool!

For appetizer, we shared the New England Cod Cake - served with remoulade and topped with micro greens

img_1312.jpg

DS is just starting to try fish. He thought this was Ok but didn't like the remoulade. I like it but did think it was a bit overpowering for the fish.

To my surprise, DS really wanted to try fish for his entree so he ordered the Pan-seared Tilapia normally served with a roasted white and green bean salad tossed in a tomato vinaigrette. He substituted the rice that came with another dish but I don't see it on the allears menu. It had almonds in it and was very good

img_1316.jpg

He loved this! Is now even willing to try fish at home! :woohoo:

I usually only eat very mild fish like tilapia or flounder. When DS decided to try to tilapia, I knew I had to try the Blackened Catfish - served over pepper jack cheese grits, topped with smoked tomato compote, and drizzled with a balsamic glaze

img_1314.jpg

I can't say that I didn't like it ... but I didn't love it either. I think the spice was a bit too much for me at lunch and I am not sure how I feel about catfish. I ate about 1/2. I did like the polenta very much.

For dessert we shared The Chocolate Wave - served with brandied cherries

img_1317.jpg

Oh my gosh, heaven on the plate! I only ate one cherry ... boy did it pack a punch! The cake was just delicious!

Total cost again with two iced teas - $67.57

Dinner was DS's favorite WDW restaurant ... Le Cellier! This was the longest that we waited for a table, about 30 minutes after our ADR time. We were told upfront that there would be a wait and it really wasn't a bit deal.

DS had a bowl of the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup - smoked bacon and Moosehead beer

img_1372.jpg

He had craved this since last trip. I have tried making it a few times at home and it comes out good but just not quite as good as the original.

I tried something new on the menu -- a three onion soup

img_1371.jpg

This was very, very good. The crouton thing had cheese on it that melted into the soup. The one under the top one didn't even get soggy in the broth. A very good soup.

For dinner, DS suprised me by trying the Mustard-basted All Natural Chicken - with cream cheese mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables finished with mustard chicken broth. He substituted the mushroom risotto for the mashed potatoes.

img_1373.jpg

He did like this but was disappointed that there wasn't a stronger mustard flavor. It is a boneless chicken breast with the wing bone for presentation.

I stuck with the Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce

img_1374.jpg

Definitely one of my favorite dishes on property! I have had it the past 4 trips and it did not disappoint.

We also ordered the Creamed Spinach Gratinee and the Baked Macaroni and Cheese

img_1378.jpg

img_1377.jpg

I love the spinach (DS wouldn't try it) but can only eat a small part of that portion. The server warned us that the mac & cheese was not the kind in the blue box. DS told her that was good because he doesn't like the kind in the blue box! ;) (It didn't come out as fresh sounding as it seems when I type this.) She said there were 5 different cheeses and bacon in it. That sold us right there! And it was WONDERFUL! Possibly the best Mac & Cheese we've ever had. DS was afraid to say that it was better than mine, but geez, when he's right he's right. We only ate a small portion of it and took it back to the room. We ended up eating it for a late night snack a couple of nights later.

We were stuffed and took our desserts to go ... the Chocolate on Chocolate Whiskey Cake and the Chocolate Mousse Moose

img_1380.jpg

img_1379.jpg

Sadly, they did not travel well even though we left the Park right after dinner. We had a couple of bites of each and ended up throwing the rest away. Very sad!

Still one of our favorite restaurants on property. I know it gets a ton of hype here and for us it lives up to it.

Total for items included in the DP - $102.03.

Total for the extra sides - $7.57

Great review of Le Cellier. We loved it so much the first time we went - sadly we didn't make it back last trip but here's hoping for next time.

For some reason I didn't put the pics of DS Coral Reef menu into photobucket ... I am adding them here

img_1293.jpg

img_1295.jpg

Along with the picture of our very sad Chocolate Mousse Moose after we got back to the room!

img_1383.jpg

:lmao: It didn't taste bad though!

We loved the french onion soup at Chefs and really liked the Mac & Cheese until we had it at Le Cellier! Le Cellier's was so much better. Chefs is very good, but Le Cellier's was great!

This was our first time eating at the Plaza and I am definitely sorry we had never tried it before. Very nice place to take a midday break!
