Mom & Son eat the World! 11 days of DDP with tons of pics! Now Complete!

OMG I am getting so hungry reading your reviews!! I also love the pot roast at prime time and the smores. Yummy!

This will be my first attempt at any kind of trip/dining report. I have read so many wonderful reviews that I wanted to try to give back if I can.

My DS and I like pretty much the same things. Neither of us eat seafood but will eat mild fish like tilapia & flounder. DS loves lamb which I hate so he orders it out. We like spicy things and are somewhat willing to try new tastes.

We will review the following, not necessarily in this order:

O'hana dinner & breakfast
Kona Cafe dinner & breakfast
The Wave dinner
California Grille dinner
Chef Mickey's breakfast (no pics here though)
1900 Park Fare breakfast
Tony's Town Square lunch
The Plaza lunch
Liberty Tree Tavern lunch
Tusker House breakfast with Donald
Pizzafari lunch
Yak & Yeti dinner
50's Prime Time dinner
Brown Derby lunch
Jiko dinner
Biergarten dinner
San Angel Inn lunch
Chefs de France lunch
Coral Reef lunch
Tutto Italia lunch
Spoodles dinner
Earl of Sandwich lunch
POP food court late dinner

Wow! That's a lot! Hopefully I didn't forget anything. We did cancel reservations at Crystal Palace for breakfast and Sci Fi for lunch. I hope to get my pictures uploaded tonight so I can start the reviews tomorrow!

Thank you so much for the great reviews and pictures! We are going to alot of the ones on your list in November. O'Hana dinner is a first time for this trip. The only night that was available was the night of the MVMCP we are planning to go to. Do you remember about how long dinner takes? I am hoping to get in to the party at 7:00 pm. The reservation is for 5:25 pm. Can't wait for the rest of your reviews !

I am SOOOOO hungry right now looking at all your fab photo's popcorn::

I think we were only there for an hour or so. The breakfast is longer because of the character rotation but you can control the pace of your dinner. I would say to get there a few minutes early to check in and you should be fine. Have fun!

Smores are yummy. We like 50s PTC. I always get the fried chicken. That Pot Roast looks good. Might try that next trip if i can break my fried chicken habit.

I also LOVE their PB&J milkshakes.

DS usually gets the chicken but after seeing pics here on the DIS, he tried the pot roast & loved it. Give it a try!

Pot roast and S'mores....soooo good! I can't wait to try them both!!!! :cool1:

Both are very good! Beware though the S'mores are very sweet. DS had a milkshake with dinner and thought both was too much.

I'm enjoying your review and photos and I just love that "Mom and Son Trip" t-shirt your son is wearing in some of the photos! :goodvibes

I'm looking forward to reading more.

THANK YOU! Props to the wonderful ladies on the DISigns Board!

Love the Smores at 50s PT. Gotta admit that BBQ chicken looks good too.

Great updates. The bread pudding looks similar to an English bread and butter or fruit sponge pudding.

love that you posted a "before" and "after" of the cobb salad!!

i love love love the BD cobb salad - and the grapefruit cake as well!

your photos and descriptions are really great!

DH also loves the 50s pot roast - always a winner!

OMG I am getting so hungry reading your reviews!! I also love the pot roast at prime time and the smores. Yummy!

That pot roast is soooo delicious, and the smores look scrumptious, have to try those next time!

THANK YOu all so much for the kind words! I was so afraid no one would read! :confused3 I will post more later today!

Good to know! When I read the previous poster's comment about the PB&J milkshake I was thinking "I gotta try that!", but I can't handle too many sweets without feeling sick, so I'll have to limit it to the s'mores. I've been dreaming of them for months now! The PB&J shake is just an excellent reason to go back. :goodvibes

Yum! The Brown Derby looks awesome. I am a salad lover, so I will have to try the Cobb! Great reviews!

your report is making me hungry! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all the great photos! I am going to show this thread to my husband as he will have a birthday while we visit next year and needs to choose a place to eat. party: Would love to hear your recommendation.

If you are looking for a signature (2 credit) meal, I would say Jiko. For a one credit meal, we really enjoyed The Wave, Spoodles and Le Cellier. Review coming up! :goodvibes

On to Day 4 ... Again no breakfast scheduled for this morning. We had an early lunch at

img_0950.jpg

img_0954.jpg

img_0955.jpg

img_0956.jpg

DS started with Soupe a l'oignon gratinee - the classic onion soup topped with Gruyère cheese

img_0958.jpg

Wonderful! Just what french onion soup should be!

While I had Assiette de fromages de France - imported cheese plate

img_0957.jpg

I really enjoyed the cheeses but was disappointed that there was no bread or crackers. I did have some of my roll so I used that.

We agreed to share entrees. We had Gratin de Macaroni - Baked macaroni with cream and gruyere cheese because we loved it last year and something that is not on the Allears menu. It was short ribs with small mushrooms (can't remember the kind) and onions served over a linguine pasta

img_0960.jpg

img_0959.jpg

Oh my gosh! The short rib dish was one of the best we had all week! The meat was braised in red wine and had just the best flavor. It was tender, not fatty at all. The Mac & Cheese was good as well but really paled when compared to the beef dish.

For dessert we shared the creme brulee and DS had a Cappuccino (sorry, no pics of that)

img_0961.jpg

We really, really enjoyed our lunch here. Our server was wonderful, iced teas filled quickly. We had dinner here last year and were disappointed in all but the mac & cheese and onion soup. No such disappointment this year.

Total with two iced teas - $70.51 (yikes for lunch! Good thing we had that dining plan!)

Our dinner wasn't until 7:30 and we ended up needing a snack. So we stopped in Germany for two bratwursts and two bottles of water

img_1001.jpg

DS had his without the sauerkraut. We love these and get them every trip.

Total for two brats with two bottles of water OOP - $17.09.

On to dinner at

img_1057.jpg

This was one that I was really looking forward to. We had eaten here back in 2004 but hadn't been back since.

I love the open kitchen

img_1049.jpg

For appetizer, DS had Four Cheese Flatbread - with roasted garlic puree and sage

img_1050.jpg

This was EXCELLENT. The garlic puree really gave it an awesome flavor.

I had Mediterranean Dips - with toasted pita and marinated olives

img_1051.jpg

I like this a lot but it is just way too much for one person. I felt it was a bit of a waste.

They served wine here by the 1/2 bottle so I had to treat myself!

img_1048.jpg

You can see the bread basket with the dip it is served with in the picture.

For our dinner, DS had Oak-fired Steak Kabobs - with multigrain pilaf, balsamic red onions and harissa

img_1053.jpg

He really didn't care for this and I have to say I agreed with him. The meat had some spice in it that we didn't really care for (which is unusual for us) and it was somewhat tough.

I shared my Crispy Chicken Cutlet - served with Serrano ham, Asiago cheese, marinated tomatoes, arugula, with fennel lemon- vinaigrette

img_1052.jpg

This was wonderful! Chicken was crispy and perfectly cooked. I really enjoyed this dish.

For dessert, DS had Chocolate Financier Cake - Rich dark chocolate cake with crunchy hazelnuts served with mocha gelato and port cassis glaze

img_1054.jpg

I had Mascarpone Cheesecake - with a walnut crust served with fresh strawberries and a balsamic reduction

img_1055.jpg

Oh my goodness ... mine was one of the best desserts I had all week and possibly one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. Very creamy & actually light. DS enjoyed his as well.

We split on this restaurant ... I loved it and want to go back. He was disppaointed but would go back & try a different entree.

Total for the food on the dining plan with iced teas - $83.43.

Total OOP for the wine - $17.04

Wow, never really fancied Spoodles that much but that all looks delicious.

definitely gonna keep following this one since im still deciding which restaurants to make reservations at for our trip in April. Keep up the good work!:woohoo:

Really great report. I love that you went with your son. My DS is a bit young for just the two of us now, but when he's older, I'd love to have a "mom and son" trip.
