Moderate vs. Value

We are going in OCt 2005 and we are trying to decide between Moderate (probably Carribean Beach) and Value (probably All-Star Sports). I know there is a price difference, but is it worth it? I have heard conflicting reports about the All-Star resorts. I want to be smart financially, but still enjoy my vacation.

YES YES YES! There is a huge difference! Likewise, there is a big jump from moderate to deluxe. I personally would look at your budget and see if you can afford the moderate for this trip. Are there any codes out that you qualify for? That really helps the bottom line.

If you can budget for a mod, book it! If money is really tight, value might be a better option. You don't want to be "resort poor". ;)

Thanks....Where can I find any codes. I apoligize, I am new at this and my head is spinning.

I have stayed at all three (value, moderate and deluxe) and there is a difference. However to spend a lot of money if you are going to be at the parks a lot is hard for me too. I have always been happy at POR and felt like POP Century was a little to busy and the rooms were small (that was just having my dh and dd(who was one). The pools at Moderates have slides too. I am not sure I would want to go back to a value again, nor do I feel like spending double the money to stay at a deluxe.

Oh it'll keep spinning for a while! ;)

I just realized that codes for Oct 05 won't be out until August sometime. But until then, read up on them at www.mousesavers.com. Great site!!

Our Oct 04 stay at POFQ was $110+tax/night for a general code. Our rented stay at BCV was $120/night (only Sun-Thurs though).

We have found there to be a pretty significant difference b/w value and moderate resorts and for us, the mods are worth the extra $$$. However, we liked our stay at All stars some years back and would recommend it but overall prefer the mods-better theme and atmosphere, better pools and recreation, better food courts and dining options, better transportation and less crowding. Best of luck deciding!! :)

How many people are in your party? That may make a difference. There are 2 ways to think about it. If you have 4-5 people, you can get 2 rooms at a value and have the extra bathroom and tv, there are more ammentities at a Moderate including more recreation but how old is everyone in the party. Are you planning on taking advantage of special events, like Mickey's not so scary Halloween Party. If so, figure an extra 100-150 for the tickets for that night alone. A little more info would help.

I've stayed at all 3 levels of resorts and I base my decision on how much time I plan on spending at the resort. If I plan on being at the parks all day, every day, then I stay at a value. If I plan on spending more time at my resort swimming or just hanging out, then I stay at a moderate or deluxe.

Rent DVC points and stay at Old Key West (Studio-2 Queen beds and mini kitchen) for $80 a night (includes tax) during the week, its $200 ea for Fri and Sat night. If you wan the whole week its $800 including tax (app $710). Thats at a typical $10 per point and if its available.

We stayed last year at ASM because were on a tight budget and we had one under 3 and we are a family of 5. We also had 3 kids under the age of 7. It was perfect for kids to experience Disney on sight without spending a fortune. This year we went and the only reason we went moderate POR is because it was cheaper then getting 2 rooms at the Value. The rooms at POR are maybe a slight bigger but it had the trundle bed and we needed it. If the ASM could of held 5 this year, we would of stayed there. We spend very little time in our room. We basically sleep and shower and eat breakfast and that's it. My reason is why pay for a gorgious room with the trimmings and your never there!!!!

Just another opinion. :earsgirl: :earsboy:

We choose to stay at the Value resorts for 2 main reasons: we use the resort as a "base" for our main goal of being in the Parks and we can spend the money we save on the room on other things that add value to our trip. If you are going to be staying at the resort for large chunks of time, you may want to upgrade or if you don't have any budget....well, hooray for you!

We always discuss going to a deluxe, but somehow, it just seems like a waste of money since we like the Parks the best. Maybe when DH and I slow down and the kids are in college we'll rethink it; but a great view of MK out of my balcony window that costs $300+ just stops me cold me every time.....The way we look at it, we stay in the Values and then NEVER have to scrimp on anything during the trip. We can eat wherever we want, buy whatever we want...you get the picture. :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

^^^^^^^ That sounds a lot like us. We have stayed at AS resorts 4 times and POR once. POR was nice, but for the extra $350 it was not something we would do again. For us $350 is a good start on funding the next trip :teeth: . However, I have noticed a definite degrading in the condition of AS resorts (especially Music) since we started staying there 4 years ago. This includes paint chipping off exterior walls, dirty walkways on upper floor common areas, more mildew than should be expected even in FL, and increasing anectdotal reports of poor mousekeeping. Even given that though, our family of four loves the parks so much and spends so much time there that it doesn't bother us to stay at AS resorts. We paid $49 per night in 11/04.

In regards to renting DVC points, don't the rooms cost more points in the summer?

We like the moderates because there is a much more relaxed feeling there. :flower:

I always say that I am going to stay at a moderate, but then I think about how much time we spend in the room, and book the value. We have stayed at POP twice and Allstar Music 6 times (off site once). I will be sorta solo in April and am contemplating a moderate as a single woman alone, but I know I will be in the parks most of the time, so I think I will probably end up at POP again. (daughter is going driving down with high school choir-20 hour ride each way- and staying off property. I am flying down ::yes:: , no 20 hour each way on a bus with 50 high school kids for me). They are staying at the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista, not too far from property, but I have not heard great things about that hotel.

We will hook up at the parks when we want to. I really want to see them perform at the world.

There are points charts on this site under "DVC DISCUSSION". The example above was 8 per night and in August OKW Studio is 10 (Sun-Fri). They are still $10 per point on average-including tax. Values and Moderates are great, but no way would I pay close to the same for a Value and certainly not more for a moderate than a studio at a deluxe. (OKW, Boardwalk, Wilderness, Beach Club).

But don't the studios only contain 1 bed and 1 fold-out sofa sleeper? When you rent, do you get Mousekeeping? I didn't think so.

I thought we would try something different. We have done CSR twice and I kind of want to venture out. What do you guys thing of POFQ? Any thoughts or share your experience would be greatly appreciated!! :)

OOOPPPsss... I meant this to be it's own thread... Sorry guys!

Go Moderate if you can. We think it is a little more relaxed. A little less hectic in my experience. (we have stayed at CBR & CS) Blow dryer & coffee maker in the room....if that is important to you. We also found our bus service less crowded....go figure! :upsidedow

I've stayed at all three. I don't think I would go anything under moderate if I had children with me. If it were me and another adult I would possibly do value.

If it is in your budget then I recommend a Deluxe especially if you have small children. The transportation of the monorail resorts can't be beat with little ones. We find that we stay at our resort quite a bit with little ones also.

This past December we were going to stay at the GF and had to change plans at the last minute and stay at Pop. We only lasted there two nights and hated it so we called frantically and although there were no rooms at the GF available we switched to the Poly.

When making ressies for this year, I was thinking of going moderate but she said we either stay at a monorail resort or we don't go! So...GF it is.

Have fun wherever you choose.
