Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Hey y'all!

We made it to Defuniak Springs, which is west of Tallahassee. We couldn't make it to Tallahassee because DH and I both started nodding off while on the road, so for everyone's safety we pulled off the road and into a hotel. We head for ASMo tomorrow. We are so exhausted- physically, emotionally, etc. And DD is being such a trooper, she's being so good and tolerant of us and everything going on- I'm so proud of her!

We left at 2:30am, took hwy 90 to Biloxi, then I10 E to where we are now. We got here at 1pm, but after many rest stops because we were so tired. The traffic wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (but still a whole lot of gridlock), but it took forever! We also met a lot of New Orleanians at our stops along the way- it was kind of like a party.

I'm not thinking about the possible bad outcomes of the storm and I refuse to let DH talk about it. For now, I'm trying to enjoy my "forced vacation" and will deal with the bad stuff when it comes. :upsidedow

Good wishes to everyone affected by this, and thanks again to all of the well wishers. :grouphug:

GLAD you guys made it safely. I was wondering about you guys, especially MS. Sierra. :) Take care!

Hey Y'all, We are in Alexandria at Josh's Mom's house. Actually we are in Ville Platte. We were going to head to Nashville but we are too numb & tired. We are going to wait until tomorrow & see how bad it will be. We may just stay put. She has a lovely home & has welcomed us with open arms & gumbo!

My Mom & brother are still on the road trying to get to Nashville. They left at midnight last night!

Let's pray this storm stays weaker.

Oh good! I'm glad to hear you arrived safely.

Well her good behavior was short lived- she just threw a tanrum and DH bribed her with chocolate pudding. ;)

Sorry your boys are giving you a hard time!

Hey All,

I just heard from Kathy. Her and her family are safe in MS. It took them 10 1/2 hours but they made it. She asks for more prayers and sends her love. She does not have internet access as of now but if it does come up she will check in.

Prayers for all of you! :grouphug:

Lauren

Lorie, you may not have seen my post but since you are stable and so close to us in Tallahassee, what do you think of Hanna? Think we'll have issues if we head that way? I wanna have a few days of fun if we can under the circumstances, unless we can get home SOON, like in 2 days!

Our plan is to stay here tonight and tomorrow night and head to Orlando after that should Hanna stay away. I do not want to run from 2 hurricanes.

We have pet care there from Mon-Fri only.

Glad Kathy made it to her destination.

Take care-Lori

aww, I beleive this just freaks some kids out-esp if mom and dad are freaked too. And we all are, aren't we? Haley cannot handle this well and is not eating and is soooooo worried. Ashton says it is an adventure and is handling this fine. She wants it to become a vacation, but for everyone/thing to be safe(best of both worlds). I guess b/c we mentioned a Disney waterpark(go figure). Haley's anxiety is the biggest reason we thought of that in the first place though.

It is all in the Lord's hands now- take care and give Aiden and Kurt a little hug for us.

Lori

I'm glad so many of you have made it safely to your destinations. Jenny, please be careful out on the road by yourself and check in asap!

Hey girl! I finally decided to leave the house and join friends in Central. They dont have any trees and so I feel better about that than getting on the road .

Hugs to all...

Boy im ready to go to Disney next week!!!

Hannah go away!!!!

Just a quick update from Waggaman(westbank).
DH has gone to work for Jefferson Parish. I cant say I didn't cry.
My best friend called me from the Cousins pumping station an hour ago(that is the one by the Lapalco bridge) and so far all is well. My Friend is in the safe house and I pray the Harvey canal holds.
We are now getting rain but nothing bad yet. Wind has picked up. The lights went off for about a minute.
Watching channel 4 looks like it will be a Cat 3!!! Thank God!!!
We know it could be much, much worse.

Still praying really hard.

Jenny, stay safe!

I can tell you-if we don't go to Disney this week, I am totally cancelling the cruise for 12/09 and going back to WDW sooner. We'll all need a respite after this, no matter what happens.

Haley has fever, I just gave her tylenol. I let her go swimming today too. She looks pitiful-just enough to send me into crying.

Thank you. can you tell I am so tired of watching the weather-I have the Dis on 1 page and the weather on , like 3 another, plus we are watching Prince Caspian. DH just went to Target to get Motrin and regular tylenol. All I had was tylenol plus cold. But she is probably getting the cold I had anyway. Poor baby-she truly looks pitiful. I HATE fever.

Thanks to whoever posted about wwltv being online-we have been glued to it.

How's Jack taking all this in?

Lori

hey all! sorry to make you cry - I cried my eyes out leaving last night. but all I have to say (and I told Grayce) is NO REGRETS! I will NEVER regret going home and going through all we went through to come back.

this isn't the kid of trip report I ever hoped to make! we made it to Decatur, AL at 1pm today. left last night @ 10p (after getting up at 10am)- took airline and roundabouted to Gentilly, CHef Menteur and hwy 11 - Slidell. made real good time. except o rhaving to pee. all the time (aint no place to pee on mardi gras day - the need to pee is inversely proportional to the convenience and availability of facilities)

anyway - fiascos getting gas - thank goodness I have Capital One bankig!

being so anxious and upset and nervous and tired I spent an hour at truck stop

stopping every 30-40 miles to micronap because just we were SO TIRED (and 30+ hours of sleep makes one really nuts!)

my heart breaking at seeing plate after plate of LA going northeast...just wanted to honk at each one and hug them all

waiting over an hour for a breakfast at Burger Kig

3 hours from Nashville and we just couldnt possibly go any further. remembered a friend lives in Decatur and called to ask if we could crash at her house for a few hours..getting here and she has a whoL GUEST HOUSE complete with living roo, kitchen & bath she is letting us use- WIRELESS internet and cable and A/C. what more could a girl ask for (besides a big mean German not to destroy her house and those of her friends!)

barbeque at some award winning place ( wow they had more trophies than LSU!) and her taking me to Wally World twice - once to get the car and wall charger for the cell phone I lost then going back cause I got the wrong size plug...

so although my heart still aches and I can't stand that anticipation to see if everything is gone or not. we are safe. we are alive. it's only stuff (except to your insurance company) - OH I FORGOT TO TAKE PICTURES  I have a video. oh well. and whether we will go back or not, I don't know. but I LOVE NEW ORLEANS AND ALWAYS WILL!!!

stay hopeful guys and keep praying! remember it was supposed to be a Cat 5 and it is "only" a 3!

OH - and my friend has a 7 year old daughter (this is the friend who lost her little boy a few months ago BTW - forget if I shared that with you)

so now G has someone to play with instead of being cooped in one room with 2 freaking out parents who don't want to play anything and only want to sleep and watch CNN.

stay safe any of you still in NO area...

Glad you made it safely to your friend's house in Decatuar. I refused to drive any further than BR this time unless I absolutely had too. Being in traffic from Rita and the other previous storms has made me hysterical.

Keep your head up and spend quality time with your family.
