So if it’s not regular Pop employees who take your luggage from you than how early are they accepting bags the morning of your flight?
Correct the employees of Airport Luggage Service are not Disney CMs just like the old Resort Airline Check-in (RAC) offering from Bags Inc.

They have their own staff and trucks and a new (same original owner / creator of the software) Craig Mateer of Baggage Airline Guest Services, Inc. and Home Serv Delivery, LLC (Bags). Craig Mateeer sold it in late 2018 for $275 Million.

ETA: add the price Craig sold it for in 2018.

Odd that they’re piloting this at value resorts. Would think if they expect it to be a true benefit from day 1, they’d roll it out from the top down. It doesn’t make sense why a nice benefit would apply to the values but not the moderate or deluxe stays.

Unless they’re expecting significant growing pains until they work the bugs out, namely lost luggage and headaches.
Are you really implying that they rolled this out to the lowly value peasants because they are expecting bugs like lost luggage and headaches?!! So the value guests are just there to work out the kinks before moving up to the other classes?

Anyway…We just used this benefit at All Star Sports and it was seamless. We checked our bags around 11am before heading to the parks. Our flight was for 8:20pm to Dallas. Our bags were there waiting for us when we arrived to our home airport. Would 100% use the service again.

Now if they would just bring back DME. Our crazy Uber driver on the way to the airport sure popped the Disney bubble for us!

DME was paid for by Disney. It was marketed as a benefit to staying on site. As such it was available in all resorts.

MCO can't handle the amount of baggage currently being checked. DME was big help.

Published reports suggest MCO is.paying $6.75 per bag delivered by a qualified vendor to the sorting facility. SW is currently the only participating airline. That suggests SW may be assisting.

The service won't last without volume. I don't know when or if more resorts will be added. Some resorts may not have enough volume to justify being included.

From the link in Post 1 “Luggage Assistance is available to receive luggage any time from 7am-1pm and 4pm-1am daily.”

Highly advise anyone looking at this service to take a minute and read the Disney website page dedicated to this. It’s not complicated but there are some very important things like hours and a reminder you will need to present your ID (just like the airport would require).
Yes, and you also have to already be checked in to your flight and show them the proof. I checked in on the Southwest app and just showed that.

Actually all resort guests paid for the DME service even if they did not utilize DME. It was never a free service to guests, guests just never received an add-on charge for DME.

Disney paid a net of Zero for the service they just managed a value added service. But like all things when they dropped the DME service offering they did not lower resort pricing.

You’ve grossly maligned my post.

At its core, a hotel room, regardless of tier that Disney assigns it, is a bed or two, a shower, a tv, a couch, a toilet, and maybe a view. What differentiates a 400 square foot value from a 400 square foot moderate or deluxe? It should be services, to “justify” the hundreds of dollars a night extra at the latter two tiers.

It did not make much sense to me why such a service would be given to value resort guests, themselves paying a premium to stay within the bubble, but not to those paying an even further premium within the bubble. Dave’s reply post, on concentration of guests, made sense to me.

The room rates didn't go up as a direct result of DME. Rates didn't go down when DME was dropped.

Guests pay for the pool, even if they don't use it. Guests pay for theme park transportation, even if they don't use it.

What would you consider free water parks on your check in day? Disney is now incurring the cost of operating both waterparks.

Many companies offer "free" shipping. Fedex, UPS etc are still getting paid.

Some free items aren't free. Furniture stores offer no interest for 5 years. Small print offers an alternative 10% discount. Skip the free phone and your monthly rate is lower. Free dining guests elected "free" dining as an alternative to a room discount.

DME was free in that it didn't directly affect your room rate.

Free DME, included DME if you prefer, produced volume. Volume allowed the service to run more efficiently and at a lower per unit cost.

Disney absorbed the wholesale cost.
